Hello, if we register corporation federally do we also have to register provincially?(I live in BC and want to set up a corporation for my Amazon business) I am confused because in few videos I saw they mentioned that we have register in province(BC) as well even if you are registered federally.
When you opt for Federal incorporation, your business gains the ability to operate across all provinces and territories. On the other hand, if you choose to incorporate provincially, your business will be limited to operating only within that province. In case you plan on expanding your business operations into another province or territory, you'll need to go through another incorporation process for that particular region, which could lead to higher costs overall.
@@controller4hire This is not correct. Both federal and provincial corporations can operate in other provinces. In each case, the corporation has to register in each province that they operate in. This is called extra-provincial registration. If you operate from only one province and choose to register federally, you will have to register the federal corporation, AND extra-provincially register that corporation in the province the business operates from. For some provinces (including Ontario), this can be done very easily as part of the federal incorporation process. For other provinces (such as Alberta and BC), you need to complete the extra-provincial registration separately, which ends up increasing the overall cost significantly. If an Alberta corporation wishes to operate in BC, it can do so, but just like a federal corporation, it will need to extra-provincially register in BC.
