  • Ever since the Statue of Liberty, crowdfunding has been bringing people together in unprecedented ways. Most recently, this phenomenon of online fundraising has reignited a sense of possibility and an empowering belief that each one of us has the potential to do remarkable things; whether it means bringing to life a hip new restaurant or producing the next Sundance darling, that’s entirely up to us.
    John T. Trigonis, author of Crowdfunding for Filmmakers: The Way to a Successful Film Campaign, will demonstrate how we the people are contributing to the creation of the bravest new world yet, and he will also impart a few insider tips and tactics to enable you to bring to light that one thing you’re passionate about making a reality.
    Writer, independent filmmaker, and renowned crowdfunding expert John T. Trigonis has mentored thousands of filmmakers, storytellers, and other creators worldwide to help them craft compelling crowdfunding campaigns that not only reach, but oftentimes exceed their online fundraising goals.
    Trigonis also literally wrote the book on Crowdfunding for Filmmakers after running his own Indiegogo campaign for his eighth short film Cerise. The advice offered in Crowdfunding for Filmmakers has not only proven useful to creatives, but also to those raising funds for everything from setting up a local restaurant to gaining awareness for personal or social causes.
    After spending a few years as a private crowdfunding consultant for a number of creative projects on various platforms, Trigons was brought on board Indiegogo’s film team as its head specialist and now works behind-the-scenes, all while continuing to nurture his own creative multimedia projects.
    This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

    Awesome job as always, John. Loved the "3 I's" - Sage advice. Amazing how many people know how to identify the crowd, but no idea on how to engage or move it. Your direction on how to do just that is spot on. Kudos, my friend!

      Richard Botto Thanks so much for giving it a watch, my friend! And thanks for the shares -- the further we spread it out, the more folks will know exactly how to engage and move those crowds!

      John Trigonis congratulations dude, getting the TED nod isn't easy. Wish the audience was more responsive. Question, how long does it take for a Ted vid to go from production to youtube upload?

    Forced crowdfunding is called taxes! I think we should be sure to call this voluntary crowdfunding to distinguish it from forced crowdfunding.

      Most people have good ideas but they often lack the skills, resources or connections to take them to the next level. So we created Ecosystem - a bubble of energy with all the missing elements they need, access to industry experts, a named contact, interaction with peers, connections to prospective customers, somewhere to make partnerships and even raise money. Are you interested ?

    John explains how to use the #crowd to fund a project or campaign. Many look to find a crowd on particular Crowdfunding platforms. It is also suggested that you could create your very own Crowdfunding platform to host Crowdfunding campaigns. Thrinacia Inc offers a white label Crowdfunding platform called Atlas that allows you to easily create a customized Crowdfunding website: www.thrinacia.com/atlas

    Problem is John that just raising between $5,-10,00 for a creative project just isn't enough to kick that Film /Tv project.

    • @TrigsTimeVault
      @TrigsTimeVault 8 лет назад

      I definitely beg to differ with you there, Frank It depends on the project. The film I mention in this TEDx talk, TWENTY MILLION PEOPLE, was shot for $13,000, played at over two dozen festivals, won a slew of awards, and is now available on iTunes, Amazon, and other platforms. If you need upwards of $50,000 to make a film, that's totally doable, as well, and there are dozens of examples, from Alejandro Jodorowsky's ENDLESS POETRY Kickstarter and Indiegogo campaigns to this year's big million dollar baby CODE 8, which only had a goal of $200,000. So again, it all depends on what the project is. And how much a person can raise is dependent on how much work she or he is willing to put in before, during, and after a campaign.

    Good video, the 3 P's was good, the 2 I's was also good, at PICISI our mantra is: "Promotion, Promotion, Promotion" not just of the site but also our sponsors and our campaigns too. Yep, we help campaigns get sponsors, and publicity too.

      www.PICISI.com Thanks for the good words about my TEDx talk. The world's definitely moving into a more personal interaction way, so straight up promotion is going the way of the dodo a little more everyday. Content marketing is key -- getting folks to read, watch, and share your content. Then they will come to us and our services without us ever having to promote to them. That's the power of the interaction. More of a time commitment, but the ROI is always going to be more.

    Just wondering if crowdfunding works for non-profit fundraising? I am a volunteer at the nation's largest no-kill, cage-free dog rescue and I'm trying to get into the fundraising aspect, since this cause is my passion in life. Does anyone know if crowdsourcing can work in my situation?

    I'd love to do this for my TV pilot, but people are doing this SO much for everything from films to "I need money to move". I'm not sure mine wouldn't get lost in the 'signal to noise" ratio...

    • @TrigsTimeVault
      @TrigsTimeVault 8 лет назад

      +Seregon O'Dassey Thanks for taking the time to writer -- and my apologies for not replying sooner! Trying to get better at RUclips. The way to not get lost in the noise is to have a strong enough signal that is set at the frequency of YOUR audience or target market, and not the "whole world." And we're entering an age, especially for creative projects, where the "I need money to do x" is just not working anymore because, as crowdfunding becomes more of a viable funding option, each of us as campaigners need to earn the money we're after.

    Hi John, I work with words - I create them. I saw your presentation last night, I came back to say, your inspiration is that ideas only come to fruition when people know about them. I am considering crowd funding (not sure which one). The success of this thought project will be gauged by people finding new ways to ignite new thinking-reclaiming the power of their awareness. I just completed the first book-101 words that I've conceived to help exercise open minds. It would be great to talk to you, I don't know if you still get notice of people that you've reached, I would love it if you did contact me - I could use a cheerleader for you - I think I can offer tools to become cheerleaders as well-because it matters!

    Crowfunding is now undergoing structural change. ICO, STO and IEOs have entered our lives deeply. However, it is getting harder to find reliable projects. Instead, I found a project called AZ Fundchain. I'm talking about the method called Money Circle, which works with Blockchain and has a global structure. Very good idea.

    • @TrigsTimeVault
      @TrigsTimeVault 5 лет назад

      Crowdfunding for equity, blockchain/ICO, etc., it doesn't work very well as yet because the upfront costs to running a campaign like that are exorbitant. But there have been a few that have seen some success. I worked with Indiegogo when they underwent a brief stint into this arena, and truth be told, it's not really crowdfunding proper, but something else entirely that I do not think will go very far because it is all about the money, when true crowdfunding, as I mention in my talk, is all about the crowd.
