There are lots of people who sang this before and lots of them were great but maybe because I am getting older but this is the high water mark for me. RIP Jimmy.

just 8 years ago but so much has changed. Rad looks so young, David Amram is now 90.
I weep every time I watch this one. So heartfelt, such great musicians. I watched it this morning after I got an update on what our governor is doing at the Texas border. We are lost without compassion, and the only thing that saves us is compassionate music/musicians.

Joan Baez, sing’s this song live at the tribute to Woody Guthrie concert live. Woody just a unbelievable American ,singer songwriter.This kind of music is food for the soul, and Jimmy is just another great chief! You have to be able to understand this,some people never do!

Great version of a great song.
I was lucky enough to see him play this at a woody guthrie workshop about 15 years ago and I 'm pretty sure it was Falcon Ridge. I was so utterly moved by his singing. I ran into him around the grounds and we talked a bit. He is such an earthy, genuine soul. As a quick side note, Dave (rip) and Tracy were also there which was of course just a few years before Dave's passing, and both he and Tracy were also very cool and very down to earth.

Wish this was available on a cd. I have listened to various renditions of this ballad but this is by far my fav. Well done gentlemen. I have a few of Jimmy's cds so I may be a bit bias.
It is on a two-cd set Called Ribbon Of Highway Endless Skyway on Jimmy's label Music Road Records. Live band behind him but not the ones above. Still a wonderful version!

The song was never given music by Woody Guthrie, if what I have read is correct, he basically just chanted it. It wasn't until it was put to music by Martin Hoffman and Pete Seeger started performing it. What a wonderful song and a testament to Mr. Hoffman for putting the music to such a wonderful and sad song left to us by Woodie Guthrie. The event is 70 years ago this year but it may happen again tomorrow.
