I'd reckon one way of understanding them better would be gaining access into some sort of a yard where they assemble both HIUs and MVHRs. Both the pipework and duct connections can be understood a lot better by doing so.

Switch off the HIU close the flow and return hot water,connect the hose from the booster ,and top up the water ,very easy and simple
