I really hope you guys read youtube comments...I love to share what I'm about to say and KNOW you all will be the people to appreciate this...My husbands Uncle (his fathers brother) is the creator of the character Jason from Friday the Thirteenth! He co-wrote the 1st movie, was the writer for 2nd & 3rd movies, and also The Final Chapter from 1984! His name was Ron Kurz. He actually passed away this past May. Just wanted to share that lil tidbit with you all cause I thought you would love it as much as I love telling it!
Living on Lake Lanier was one of my favorite places to live. We lived there from 2011-2019 and there was never a shortage of tragic tales. Every year so many people drown for a multitude of reasons. I rescued 2 boys from drowning my first year there. We worked in the boating industry on the lake and not only heard about, but experienced plenty of weird stuff around there. If you go out on the lake I recommend a life jacket, because there are plenty of real dangers on and around the water.
I am a fisherman, I have fished flat creak and lake lanier. GA has some of the best and most dangerous fishing in the States. This episode hit my soul.
I've lived in ga all my life, and I have been to lake lanier plenty of times (rented a boat and took it out there with some friends for my birthday one year), my dad even worked for lake lanier in catering for a bit... I swear one time while swimming in the lake, my friends and I kept feeling stuff touching our legs and feet...we were nowhere near the bank, didn't see any branches or debris and it was definitely not fish...never found out what it was...creepy!
I found you guys because "murder with my husband" mentioned and recommended your podcast now I'm hooked have a few stories of my own to share one day! Love you both keep it up ❤
Definitely another great episode this one was definitely creepy lake Lanier story is definitely going to stick with me for a while. Sorry to the author that lost his sister.
I love you guys! Great episode. Just need to say Thank You soooo much for starting STD. Dan and I have kinda equivalent creeper progression from the "Poltergeist" clown doll to reading Stephen King when I was waaay too young and now Thalassophobia! (good to know that's what its called)
IM SO EXCITED! Ive been binge listening to yalls(STD) on spotify for months now when i work and decided tonight i wanna see the people who bring such joy in the world! Yall are way more awesome than i even thought! I love the show! Great job!
I know it would get Dan in trouble but just one button push of “That’s true” when The Queen is talking abou crystals would be amazing! Love it. Edit: Wow! I live not to far from Lake Lanier an almost drowned in it during my early 20s. It’s the reason I know what Thalassophobia means .
Damn, poor Brenda. That story sounds thoroughly convincing, not because of a lack of supernatural. I come from a broken home and have a family history of mental illness and the details sound real AF. It's unlikely somebody would make some shit up and nail such details. Poor, Brenda.
Relocating cemeteries is definitely a thing! Where I live in Chicago, there used to be a city-designated cemetery in and around what is now Lincoln Park. They were in the process of relocating all of the graves to Graceland and one other cemetery when the Great Chicago Fire hit and destroyed 1/3 of the city, killed about 300 people, and destroyed all of the wooden grave markers in the cemetery. They gave up excavating graves two years after the fire, and now there’s still somewhere around 11,000-17,000 unmarked graves scattered throughout the park/surrounding neighborhood last time I checked.
If you go to center Hill lake in Tennessee on halloween, they do a haunted kayak tour where you can see a graveyard and houses and a church at the bottom of the lake.
The story about the older sister seeing the woman leaving the goo - I work with clients who are sometimes mentally unwell and write in journals. Their writings never make sense and are usually random things smushed together. I'm not an expert, and haven't come across ( accidentally) too too many of these types of writings, but they just legitimately look like they're coming from an unwell person detached from reality. That sisters writings told a linear and clear story and timeline of events whenever she saw this women with black hair.
0:40 Intro 3:57 Louisiana's Cajun Cauchemar 18:10 The Deaths and Wraiths of Lake Lanier 39:39 Listener story from Hannah- Story from a trip to Taiwan possibly encountering a Mosina 52:57 Listener story- After moving as a child following his parents divorce, his older sister Brenda started having night terrors and horrible anxiety that years later ended in tragedy. Recently he discovered it may have been from a haunting.
When I was young, my dad would go fishing for these things with his buddies. They would leave for the weekend, and come back with 2 or 3 of these each. We would have fish for months and months.
I live in a small town in Arkansas with a very similar town. About 1/3 of my town was flooded when they built the lake. You can see the buildings and such on a fish finder while travelling on the lake. Theres always AT LEAST one drowning in the lake per year. And we also have giant catfish that divers say are large enough to eat a human.
Mississippi river has huge catfish like that. Our neighbor caught one that filled a city trashbin. Which may not sound big, but a full grown man wouldnt fill the city trashbins
Holy shit, I grew up in Forsyth county and went to lake Lanier a bajillion times. Never felt creepy there though, but also there was a lot of drinking and fun times involved.
Also the massive catfish thing is real. And there have been a lot of super mysterious deaths in that lake. The govt really did flood and entire town. There are houses and shit under the water. I didn’t believe it when we first moved to Cumming, GA from st Petersburg, FL but it is true.
_'Investigators followed the path the car would've taken... and found some marks on the road seeming to indicate that the car had skidded off the Lanier Bridge and into the lake below.'_ ...Maybe the girls were just cosplaying as the Maitlands from _Beetlejuice,_ and things got a little out of hand. ('Out of hand', heh, heh... I'm going to Hell.)
I have a fear of large bodies of water. Want to know why? Because I got stranded on a sandbar and had to swim a mile in shark infested waters with shark fins popping up all around me. I looked like dash from the incredibles going across the water. Wish that story wasn’t true
Moving cemeteries for dams is a thing. TVA moved literally thousands of graves and sadly records aren't always that clear as to who was moved or where they were moved to... As a genealogist for my family I've struggled with Loudon Lake records. Could be a the time of the making of Loudon Lake the graves were unmarked and thus not moved, maybe were moved but records lost - so thus my 4th great grandfather disappeared into the area that is now the lake. I have few others of not direct lines under other lakes like Fontana, Douglas, Boone, Fort Henry... all in East TN where my family moved from Maryland to their land grants for Revolutionary service. So yes Lindsey it is and was a thing.
We have catfish like that here in Texas. I thought every state has them. Honest We also have a lot of man made lakes and cemeteries have been moved. When building a are built here cemeteries are moved as well. Lol is it just a Texas thing?
Bro my cousin had legit seen a catfish bigger than him when he worked as a diver at Hoover dam, he decided to quit. Turns out all the divers before him quit for the same reason
I developed bad sleep paralysis when I got out of the military and it’s been the same version of being pushed into my pillow and I think I’m screaming for help but I can’t get anything out and I can’t hold my head up it feels like someone is sitting on my back and pushing my head into my pillow (I sleep on my stomach) then when I almost pass out I snap out of it and realize I wasn’t making a sound sometimes I’ll slip back into it right as I’m falling asleep and if I don’t pull myself out of it and fight it fast enough it’s like it’s got me and I fight it for what seems to be hours just trying to move and keep My head up.
That’s a wels catfish from Europe. Blue and flathead catfish are the biggest in North America and can also reach substantial size but nothing like the monsterous Wels
Hardcore creep here. Also, Cummins, you're my favorite comedian of all time... But uuuuh, name's Jason and I was born on Friday the 13th. And totally by coincidence, my wife and I plan to move our family to your neck of the woods, from wa, by 2022... Wanna go swimmin? I also turned 13 and 30 on the 13th. Also, this is the only reason I believe luck exists. Especially bad luck. Lol
And the good stories that Dan tells would be better if Lynze would not half to say something every 5-10 seconds. The story starts getting good and you hear get the fuck out leave etc etc, hopefully one day joe will mute her mic when Dan is telling his stories. Dan will sit there and hardly say anything at all but it seems like it kills lynzes to go a minute without hearing her own voice
Lynsey calls them "creepers" but Dan says "creeps". Who do I listen to? Lynsey is the Queen of Bad Magic, but Dan is the Master Sucker! ! I'm SO conflicted😱 😘😍😍😍😍😍😍
River Monsters taught me that catfish will eat everything you love.
As a native Georgian, I'm always delighted when people talk about Lanier. It's a weird part of our history.

C'mon guys, 7,500 views and only 320 likes? What kind of fans are we? Show Dan and Lynze some love!
Maybe if lynze didn't half to speak or make a noise when Dan is telling his stories ppl would hit the like the button
I legitimately screamed on my drive to work cause I lived in a small town near lake Lanier!
I lived in cumming for about 17 years so I’m totally familiar with this lake and area.
This is by far the best episode ever! Lol 🙌❤

As I said I would, I became an Annabelle. Yay! Keep it up guys.
Dan would know about the catfish since he is quite the avid fisherman.
Yeah, and he kinda looks like Catfish Hunter with that moustache!
Amazing comment. 3/5 stars.

I will now be telling my niece, who lives outside Atlanta, to NEVER, EVER! visit Lake Lanier. Soooo creepy🥺
Nah, lake Lanier is beautiful and a lot of fun. I lived near there and have been loads of times.
The lake Lanier one hits very close to home
Dan's face when the journal reading started and the handwriting changed LMAO.
Kind of sounds like lake Norman here in Charlotte North Carolina area
Imagine the irony of a dog being eaten by a CATfish. That's a bad day for a good boi!

I have to say, the grease on the doorjamb was ectoplasm. Ectoplasm only occurs when the spirit is very angry. Not grease... Ectoplasm.
Kathleen Madigan does a hilarious skit on Noodling. “Sometimes the Noodlers don’t come back up” 😂😂😂
No one:
Absolutely no one:
Literally no one to ever exist:
Me: Timesuck, is we dumb, and scared to death references
Trust me, I know the feeling.. lol
Is the live show going to be streamed for us who can't drive 33hrs to get there?

That catfish pic isn't photoshopped. They _do_ get that big, and bigger. Especially in places like the Amazon and Mekong rivers.
Obligatory "ITS OVER 9000"!!!!
_'Investigators followed the path the car would've taken... and found some marks on the road seeming to indicate that the car had skidded off the Lanier Bridge and into the lake below.'_
...Maybe the girls were just cosplaying as the Maitlands from _Beetlejuice,_ and things got a little out of hand.
('Out of hand', heh, heh... I'm going to Hell.)
I think I'm going to end up setting up a Bad Magic budget at this rate.
Cat fish will get HUGE!! They do not stop growing..
Poor Brenda 😞
Hey guys! Super huge catfish in Oklahoma, Colorado’s Grand Lake, the river Rhone in France, etc. Look up the pics! Holy shiz!!!
Not gonna lie Dans mustache look is growing on me.
I have a fear of large bodies of water. Want to know why? Because I got stranded on a sandbar and had to swim a mile in shark infested waters with shark fins popping up all around me. I looked like dash from the incredibles going across the water. Wish that story wasn’t true

LOL now Lindsay has a reason to put a circle of crystals under the bed 😂
Seems like you need to watch Jeremy Wade, River Monsters then you’ll know what a big fish looks like!
I developed bad sleep paralysis when I got out of the military and it’s been the same version of being pushed into my pillow and I think I’m screaming for help but I can’t get anything out and I can’t hold my head up it feels like someone is sitting on my back and pushing my head into my pillow (I sleep on my stomach) then when I almost pass out I snap out of it and realize I wasn’t making a sound sometimes I’ll slip back into it right as I’m falling asleep and if I don’t pull myself out of it and fight it fast enough it’s like it’s got me and I fight it for what seems to be hours just trying to move and keep

Have you guys ever watched the series "Salem" it's BRILLIANT.
cotton Mather has a very predominant role.
Eeeek!
They did this to create land between the lakes in Kentucky/Tennessee to create lake Barkley and Kentucky lake.

Kerr Kake, NC/VA has some big catfish!
also this ep is 1:11
Lynzes stories would feel scarier if they had sound cues like dan's. Hers just end without any real suspense.
And the good stories that Dan tells would be better if Lynze would not half to say something every 5-10 seconds. I agree! Now that they are a part of the show, why not? Also-desk tour!!!
Noodling is quite real and still done here in Oklahoma.
Giant catfish do exist, I’ve swam with some tamer ones in southern Illinois!
Wasn't there a story that was similar to dan's second story. I swear he has told similar because I remember the weird shadow that had the long pole
Fucking YES. I have a minor cardial infarction EVERYTIME y’all upload any podcast

yooo when they said thalasophobia it was like i was at the vilage with grandma thats how much of a Greek that word was
Lynsey calls them "creepers" but Dan says "creeps". Who do I listen to? Lynsey is the Queen of Bad Magic, but Dan is the Master Sucker! ! I'm SO conflicted😱
😘😍😍😍😍😍😍
He is also King Cummins the magnificent according to his stand up 🤣😂
Dan catfish don't have stingers on their face they 3 spines on the top and 2 on the sides
Good luck Cauchmar, if my wife hasn't came for me after 18 years, Cauchmar doesn't have a chance
Well I wasn't scared of the water...till now
Noodling is a lot of fun. I've done it before lolz
They should do a dive or suck Of the fish found at dams.
Oh yeah guys. Us local GA peeps don’t mess around with Lake Lanier. That’s some Camp Crystal shit
My husband fishes for catfish I’m sure he’s wadded in water to catch them before.
