Can you guys imagine if Porsche decided to use a derivative of the 4.0 flat 6 with two turbos instead of the 4.0 V8. Now that would sound epic in race form. That being said, this car is epic.
I'm glad to see the car having a "normal" engine and proportions instead being a "loophole car" for regulations. I know the amount of stuff going into serial production vehicles is very small and it's mostly marketing nowdays, but I prefer racecars which are somewhat related to what is found in "normal" cars.
The new Porsche looks great again. I think Toyota will have a very strong competitor again in 24 h Le Mans from 2023. Porsche never have had bad car for endurance races since 1969. Porsche always knows how to make fast and also reliable car... 🙂

my bet is that a flat 6 won't handle 680 PS for 24h!. Remember the strongest boxer engine they sell is the GT3 RS at 510 PS! (of course the GT2 RS and Tubo S have more power - but with a turbo charger...)

A shared V8 across brands is a cost-saving measure. VW AG are in this to get as much advertising space for their exotic brands as possible for as little money as possible - not break records in a class incapable of such things.
@@mitchell-wallisforce7859 The new V8 is lighter, more compact, and requires less cooling than a twin-turbo boxer. It's very unlikely the boxer engine could fit in an LMDh chassis. Mclaren's V8TT is too large and most (if not all) V12's won't fit.

Old V4 was good for like 500hp and the power limit w/ hybrid system is 680hp so maybe it could have done the job in terms of power...but the V4 is 8 years old now so it's probably outdated...but maybe this new v8 is made of 2 V4 strapped together (glickenhaus' v8 is made of 2 rally I4 put together in a v8)

ngl, the car sounds like the 4.6 V8 from the 918 spyder. I'm probably assuming though it's been detuned for regulations though. I think they lowered the rev limiter on that.
They will all look like prototypes because that's what performs. Even the old GT1 prototype silhouettes just ended up looking like someone squeezed a prototype into a car.
