Great Synth, I picked mine up last year with a missing floppy, dead battery and no sounds. Modded it to run a standard PC drive, changed the battery and it runs fine now. Definitely the best of the 4-op FM synths.
Its gonna be my 10th synth. I'm bidding for it now on EBAY. I didnt realize until recently it's basically a DX11 with an 8 track sequencer and drums/effects. That's POWERFUL. I've got some killer sounds in my DX11. Especially MOOG STYLE BASS. And an 808 drum kit. I cant wait to be able to bring them to life. And creates 80s style electro FUNK.
@@fender1000100I’ll be getting one tomorrow! I’ve been having fun with a DX21 I bought a few months ago and just recently discovered the V50. I’m going to enjoy sequencing that bad boy! 8 track sequencer, different waveforms and built in effects?? This thing is a beast! I’m trying to figure out how I didn’t know of it sooner.
Absolutely is. My friend has one and he has done covers of BILLIE JEAN AND RHYTHM IS A DANCER and CROCKETTS THEME. Just using his own DRUM AND SYNTH creations..that had people going WTF. I need to get him to upload them on here. GAMECHANGER is the word. Alot of people would be after this synth once they hear them. Alot. And since you can only really get this synth from Japan on Ebay these days. There will be alot of happy Japanese..Then the PRICE would rise. Its VERY POWERFUL in the right hands. Can produce bass that will rattle a set of speakers to the core. And can produce an 808 DRUM KIT. It's incredible in the RIGHT HANDS.
I bought it in a pawnshop for ¥5000 around 35 bucks is working perfectly but can’t find these sound maybe an internal battery is dead or need floppy disk with sounds banks i have no idea
Korg uses Matsushita (Technics) derived keyboards in their newer synths (M3, Kronos, Nautilus - don't know about the newer ones) - they acquired these when Matsushita/Panasonic/Technics left the keyboard market. The Yamaha FS action was used in synths from the M1 to the Triton. I prefer the Matushita used in the Kronos.
Great video (8 years ago) thank you. Are there no simple piano or grand piano sounds? Or did l just tap past it? I heard one good organ, and a Hammond sound, was that it?
the predecessor of yamaha SY77 which came almost immediately after this leaving with almost no time for the V50 to even make a presence, had it been an year earlier, it would have made it to a mini legend status
The SY77 leaves the V50 for dead in every way except that you can only have 1 song in the SY77 sequencer at one time. The V50 allows up to 8 songs and it also has the drum machine with all those heavily compressed drum sounds.
Only FM, but unlike the DX series you have eight different operator waveforms to choose from. You can use the traditional sine waves, but you don’t have to. The V50 also has effects and, IIRC, a sequencer. The SY77 and SY99 went back to six-op, this time with 16 different operator waveforms to choose from, as well as a small bank of samples (AWM) and the ability to use samples and FM voices to cross-modulate each other. I have an SY77 and some of the sounds are otherworldly.
Hello there. I'm getting in touch with you because I can't get my keyboard Yamaha V50 started... Although I've just bought the USB Midisport Uno Interface and did install the driver correctly. Unfortunately, no sound would come out of it! Is there some program missing in the process? I've check everything in my OS and Nothing seems to be wrong either. FD probably works except the rubber bands disintergrate. Can be hard to find I hear. I've bought a USB mod kit for my Korg X3 and you can possibly do the same for yours. USB allows access to folders, each the same size as a FDD.
Yeah just after the DX7 this came out & I sadly bought it because it had a workstation capability.I should have bought a DX7 instead. Still got it stashed away & I have no idea where the disks got to.
Actually this is the best thing Yamaha ever put out there. You have to know what ITS REALLY capable of. It's basically a DX11/TX81Z X 2 with a sequencer and effects. Drum sounds. Now I own a DX11. And it can produce some amazing sounds. And is alot easier to program than a DX7 with I also owned. And it can sound as warm and fat as an analogue synth aswell as having that digital sparkle. The presets never really do these synths justice. It's when you go into the parameters you see the real magic. I have created an 808 drum KIT in my internal user patches. And some bass patches that rival a mini moog. And make my speakers earn their keep. It's a great electro funk/pop machine. My friend has the V50. And he did covers of BILLIE JEAN and RHYTHM IS A DANCER using ONLY his own custom drum and synth sounds. I think if he were to upload them to youtube. It would wake alot of people up. To how AWESOME this keyboard really is IN THE RIGHT HANDS. And having the 9 track sequencer means ideas can be layed down FAST. No this was actually the last and BEST keyboard Yamaha put out there. From the SY series onwards they slipped. As a total FM music maker. This is a masterpiece. No SAMPLES. Just second generation 4op FM POWER and beauty. I'm gonna see if I can get him to upload those two songs. Once people hear them. That would be the GAME CHANGER for this amazing synth. Just like the dude that uploaded Robert Miles Children. Done just using a ROLAND MC303. And had people calling him a liar. No way was that done on a Roland MC303. Because they lacked the skill and imagination themselves when they owned the MC303. To see what it was really capable of. They couldnt believe what they were hearing from someone who did. Like I said put a synth like this in the RIGHT HANDS. And you will see its TRUE POWER.
I have the chance of buying this synth.. but many samples sound much alike to mine in the old YS200 digital synth, I need good "old fashioned" pads, synth strings, electric pianos, and pianos like M1 very metallic.. I bought recently a Kurzweil SP4-8 so, orquestra.. I have plenty.. so, needing for PADS and SYNTHY STRINGS or so.. DO you people think.. it would be worthy to get ride of the YS200 and grab this nice V50? Thank you very much for the comments...
***** Txs! For sure I'd prefer the Sy77/99 but are much heavier and cost here in Perú around 500bucks! In the other hand this v50 is lighter and in 280 bucks and barely used.. it would be nice to get a Anx1 blue..but is not a common synth to find here down..thank you very much.
+miguel rejas The V-50 has exactly the same sound engine as the YS200 so it wouldn't help you a lot. However you can edit the FM-Sounds in the V-50 to the very detail just like the DX11, whereas the YS-200 only had quick edit. But FM-editing is complicated anyways. So exchanging the YS-200 by V-50 might be worth it but adding rather not. Your sound needs could also be achieved by Roland JV-Synths of the 90s such as the JV-80 or XP-30/50 maybe they are cheaper over there than the M1.
