Thank you so much for all the honest info. I understand your struggles. I moved from Germany to Chicago and I have cried a lot myself. I did not think things through at all. Now, we are planning to move to Costa Rica within the next 2-3 years and want to be prepared and do all the research.
lol, moving countries every couple of years? You have SERIOUS wanderlust :) I am well travelled to 16 countries, but my own move to CR in January will be the first time I actually relocate to a new country. I think once a lifetime is all I could handle :)
Grécia is centrally located ; positioned to explore all of Costa Rica . With a centro so you can get daily needs; with an easy navigable bus system.with perfect temperatures year round.
My biggest fear when I finally make the move is to find myself completly alone... I'm a shy person and have no idea where to meet people, or how to make friends there!
Well depending on what town you're in there are areas where locals go to watch sunset or cafes! People here are very friendly and open to meeting others.
That is something you should think about it!!! In CR is a must to talk to certain people in order to get by, like you must talk to public services personnel as for services that you will need, Spanish is a must in a Spanish speaking country or at least to try to interact somehow, culture shock is another psychological topic that can hit hard any foreigner when they still have a non costarican mentality in Costa Rica. Everything depends on you, how you want to live, how happy you want to be.. My advice! get to know the culture by observing and asking until you understand why CR is a happy culture, where they buy things cheaper and better, where you can get an specific service such as lawyer, dentist, schools etc, where the good places to visit are located, best restaurants. Not just CR but any country that you are thinking of moving to!!!!
Hi Emile. My best advice is to learn Spanish. That in and of itself will get you out there meeting people because Ticos love it when you make an effort to speak in Spanish and they will be super friendly with you. You will have a lot of laughs in the process and you will meet people naturally as you go about your day.
I would suggest moving to a Is small sized town on the Pacific coast. Is my preference, Playa Samara. In the resort towns you find plenty of Europeans, Canadian's and American tourist tourist as well as well as people who have moved there. My last 2 trips to Costa Rica were 3 weeks long and I have made more I have made more friends there in those 6 weeks then I have in 20 years in the US where I have lived my whole life. Good luck. Next Winter I am planning to spend 2 to 3 months there to see if I should I should buy and spend half the year there 1/2 a year at my home in at my home in New Jersey. Have been to Costa Rica about 14 times.
A lot of great information! The picture of you in the hoodie is so 😥. Glad you have thrived since then. Kept looking for a clown repetitively squeezing his red nose early in the video. Thanks for all the good info.
i appreciate your honesty ive lived here since 911 and just spent 11 months in usa and got back 5 days ago with 140 grand in cash and am wondering if costarcia will kick my ass again. There is an old saying here if you want to know how to have a million dollars in your bank acct here, first you start with 2 million.
@@thewatcher3197 oh and I just remembered another quote from a friend of mine who said "In the USA people usually have one Gig and its a good one ,here you have 5 gigs and they all suck.
My wife & I are thinking of visiting the Uvita area the week after xmas, kids will be 10, 8, 5...do you have any recomendations where to stay? We dont need anything too fancy, We would love being surrounded by wildlife
Well I would just check out the places that are on airbnb. There are a lot of great options! Or perhaps the hotel "Canto de Ballenas." that is a quaint hotel near the Whales Tail that is lovely and down to earth.
We are moving to San Ramon next month. What part of the country do you live in? I think I may have seen another video of yours that you were in Dominical?
I have lived in many places. Right now I am living in Jaco. But I have lived in Heredia, Jaco, Playa Hermosa, Quepos, Manuel Antonio, Portalon, Dominical, Dominicalito, Tinamastes, Platanillo, Dominicalito, Uvita, and way up in the mountains in the middle of nowhere! But for now... Jaco
Thanks a lot for this great video. Very helpful info indeed. Visited CR 6 times now, last time in 2018. Really thinking about moving to this paradise for ever, as Germany is no longer a nice place to live. Fell in love with CR in 1992 and still are. Have some natural history Videos about CR wildlife also on my channel "Dirk's Wild World". Keep up the good work!
Vaccines are mandatory for children who are born in Costa Rica. and for children who become permanent residents and wish to go to public school. Some private schools will not ask for them however. and I would have some "off the record" advice to provide if needed. You may email me sarah@lasarahelena.com

I currently live in Chicago, and I also cry a lot (a bit of an exaggeration), that's why I'm moving to Costa Rica soon

Hahahaha, I was fine but just grumpy! One of those funny memorable photos.
So how do you get rid of the mosquitoes that's why I moved from Florida hate them. Been looking at Panama northern part to.
It really just depends on the rental and place. MOST rentals I have been in have not had mosquito issues. This one was just really into the jungle!
Can you make a video on navigating public transportation??(:

What do you mean you don’t know how to charge your phone?
Like adding the cell phone data onto the chip with money.
Hey Sarah Elana!
I read that vaccines are mandatory there. I'm not wanting to vaccinate my kiddos. Any experience with that?
That’s not true. Vaccines are not mandatory. I have a 9 year old daughter and she started school this week.
