The Prayer is insane man! The background vocals and harmonies are otherworldly. It features Mitch in his higher vocal range and the control he has over his voice. It highlights Scott’s range, and in my opinion, one of my favorite Kirsten vocal parts! In her little duet section with Mitch, she really shows her vocal power and it allows her to throw in a little grit and sass.
That low tone from Scott is amazing. You'll notice, he takes over the bass line when the bass (either Avi or Matt) has a solo. His range is incredible. I'd love to see you react to their original song, "Sing."
This song is a cover of a Simon and Garfunkel song from 1964, though a very different arrangement from the acoustic/folk of the original. If you would like to see some originals, as well as how they perform these live, here is a live recording of their Popspring performance for MTV in 2016 with excellent quality audio and video. ruclips.net/video/7GMHqYxpnzk/видео.html The performance features 3 originals and their medley 'Evolution of Michael Jackson'.
there’s legit _so much_ amazing Pentatonix stuff for you to watch. one of my personal favorites that no one really talks about is their cover of Shallow. Kevin beatboxes while playing the cello at the same time and Kirstie has a great part in it too, so it’s pretty amazing lol
My favorite video is You're A Mean One Mister Grinch (it's so much fun! And gives Matt a serious showcase), and favorite song is Can't Hold Us, cause damn! Scott and Mitch can rap, like holy effing sh*t! Another popular one is Amazing Grace. That's another where Kirstie really shines. It may be too soon for A Ha, at the Star Vista in Singapore (fan video, whoever filmed it is a true legend), but holy hell is it amazing!
The Little Drummer Boy is another great video and there is a bit where you can hear Kevin's beautiful voice. I love watching the Sugar Plum Fairy video (by PTX) is a fun one to watch and Mary Did You Know is another beautiful video with the cave adding to the vocals. Our whole family Loves watching their videos and listening to PTX. I've been a fan for several years and the first video I can remember seeing of them (which I can no longer find ANYWHERE) was the original group on folding chairs out in a field which looked like it was behind their school (I am thinking it was from when they were in high school). They all have an amazing range of talent. They make each song their own with special PTX twists. We are still trying to learn the beat pattern from Winter Hymnal, LOL. While watching our typical weekend PTX video search, we found a collaboration that I think you would like to use for one of your reaction videos. They are not a band or group, just a few musicians who came together for an eerie and beautiful video. The song in this video is called Hoist the Colours from Pirates of the Caribbean (ruclips.net/video/_4T5sxTVGoE/видео.html). Th bass is incredible. Melinda did a great job bringing in the vocal talent for this song. I'd be interested in seeing what PTX would make of this song.
Kirstin was shy in the beginning but has gotten over it. She is awesome in "Amazing Grace". She takes the lead in "My Favorite Things". (The video is non-traditional for the song.) Their original "Love Again" is probably your kind of music.
I am an old folky and grew up on Simon & Garfunkel’s electronic version ( not their original acoustic version that didn’t get as much air play). I never thought that anyone could top it but PTX proved me wrong! And I am so glad for it! This arrangement shows how powerful the group is and how far they have come from The Sing Off.
Don't be afraid to pause, not only does it help avoid the algorithm take down, but we come here to hear your reaction we'll go to the actual video to listen to it again (in its entirety): notice the number of views the originals have. That, and we tend to own their albums so listening to an unstopped version is possible so don't be afraid to pause and speak your mind. Sound Of Silence is a cover of Simon and Garfunkel and this version is a cover of Disturbed's cover. Next one can be a solo/duo/trio of Pentatonix. Recommendation: [OFFICIAL VIDEO] Butter x Dynamite - Pentatonix.
Kirstie (rhymes with thirsty) has power vocals when she chooses to use them. Check her (and Mitch) out in Amazing Grace and Can You Feel The Love Tonight. Also, recommend Rather Be (Kirstie lead) and Royals (Mitch lead). It’s okay having a hard time picking a favorite as they are all so talented.
it's np when you pause , live to see your reaction when you discover how amazing each member of this group really is. It's so fun to have another person feel the way we all do about how talented they are !
For Kevin's beatbox showcase check out their 'Problem', 'Evolution of Rihanna', 'Cologne', 'Love Again' (original), 'Coffee In Bed' (original). 'The Sound of Silence' is a classic song by 'Simon & Garfunkel' (1964).
It's funny - so many reactors comment about how fast these videos go, and they are surprised that they are so "short". The thing is, for 90% of them, they are the exact same length as the song that is being covered. The difference being - no one wants it to end, because they are just that ..... amazing, phenomenal, spectacular ..... almost beyond comprehension.
I actually found Pentatonix by watching reactions to Disturbed’s cover of Sound of Silence from 2016. I recommend you react to it! There are 2 videos, the official video and the live performance on the Connan Show. You can’t go wrong with either. It’s such a powerful song and the Disturbed version give me chills every time.
So fun watching you discover this magical group. I love EVERYTHING they do, honestly just look at their RUclips channel and select ANYTHING and you won’t be disappointed ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I think you should check out their “Evolution of Michael Jackson”…it’s a live performance done in 1 take and really shows that they are really that talented. They also do an “Evolution of Rihanna”, which is one of my faves.
Loving your reactions. Gold, Evolution of Michael Jackson, Come Along are amazing, but they have a huge body of work and you really can't go wrong. For original work Sing is just really special, Coffee in Bed, Love Again, Love Me When I Don't. It is hard to pick a favorite member and hard to pick a favorite song. I still can't choose.
For some of their earlier work, Problem,(. Mitch raps), We are Young, Starships, Somebody That I Used to Know, Cheerleader are all good choices. You have so many left to go, but just keep them coming.💕💕
If you react to "Gold" by Kiiara. Play the first 30 sec. of her video so you can appreciate the organic nature of Mitch's voice compared with Kiiara's synthetic one. Matt, the new bass, has a smooth silky voice. This was a cover of the Simon and Garfunkel song.
Hi. Love your reactions to PTX We who love them welcome you Gold is insanely good. It’s a masterclass in timing. It’s live and crazy good This is a song written by Simon and Garfunkel in the 1960s as a warning that we dont listen to each other and still important today
The Sound of Silence", originally "The Sounds of Silence", is a song by the American music duo Simon & Garfunkel. The song was written by Paul Simon over several months in 1963 and 1964. It is actually considered to be one of the most iconic songs of all time.
Love your reactions guy, any song from PTX is always an upgrade. My personal favorite is “Sing”, it’s an original and it really shows their fan base. Celebrities and fans alike are in the video. Another beauty is “Amazing Grace “. Kristie shines.🎶🎶💕💕🦋
As I said on your first reaction, Pentaholics are the best! Welcome to the community, you will love it ❤️🔥❤️🔥🥰 Also, if you go listen to the original by Simon & Garfunkel, then you will see why everyone loves what Pentatonix did to upgrade this classic and why it’s so popular
You commented on Scott’s (tall blond) deeper range. I’m not sure if anyone mentioned previously that Scott is a natural baritone who has an insane range and covers the bass parts when the bass sings lead. If you watch again you will see him doing it while Matt (bass, new guy) sings the lead.
WE ARE CALLED "PENTAHOLICS" CAUSE WE ARE ADDICTED TO THE SOUND AND VIDEOS THEY PRODUCE. ENJOY YOUR REACTIONS. BILLY BOY (THIS SONG IS A SIMON AND GARFUNKLE SONG DONE LONG TIME AGO)
This is a bit early to mention, but there are two other spectacular A Capella groups. Pentatonix won the 3rd season of "The Sing Off", an A Capella singing competition. Home Free won the 4th season. Then there is Voice Pay, and their bass singer dose some absolutely fantastic solo work. All three groups have top grade unbelievable beatboxers.
Their collaboration videos are great too! A couple of my favorites are: "Wizard of Ahhs" (Todrick Hall featuring Pentatonix); "Black and White" (Todrick Hall featuring Super fruit ,📝 Superfruit is a group in itself of just Scott and Mitch... this video however has Scott, Mitch and Kirstie in it); and ALL collaboration with Lindsey Sterling (ie. "Radioactive ☢️" and "Over the River" from their newest Christmas album Evergreen) I'd love to see your reaction to these! Have a great day... Jill 🏜️
I'm glad you noticed and appreciate what Kirstin does so well. She is often used to ramp up the intensity of the performance. Her voice is so rich and powerful it just cuts through the background at normal levels. But she has a built in power dial that she just cranks up from a normal 4 or so level up to 10 and just blows you away.
“Imagine” how many years you have missed out on their AWESOMENESS!! You do a great job. We are called PENTAHOLICS and we are Legion. We love these young people.
"The Sound of Silence" was written and performed by Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel in 1964 and was recently subject to a cover by David Draiman and Disturbed (which you might enjoy checking out).
New sub here. Classical opera singer here who is in love with the whole group. My 2 favs I think you’ll like “Sing” (original) and cover of “Shallow”. Stunning.
The Pentaholics are a HUGE group of followers and it is no wonder why, because PTX is so much on a whole higher level of music. Yes Avi, the bass, left and was replaced by Matt, also a bass vocalist. This is one of the songs that you will get to hear each of them sing.
Your comment that you had not heard Scott Hoying sing "in that range" before caused me to smile because you actually DID hear that range in "Hallelujah" because he picked up Avi Kaplan's bass harmonies while Avi took the melody line.
Thanks for the great reaction! Don’t worry about pausing to offer up your thoughts. It’s clear you are enjoying the journey into a rather large catalog of PTX music. Take your pick, you really can’t go wrong. 👍🏻
Avi (former bass) helped find Matt (new bass). Also be aware that as the baritone of the group, Scott will take over the bass parts when Avi/Matt are singing
Lol, us Pentaholics love watching when a new reactor first is discovering PTX. Thank you for doing these. We are definitely a passionate fan base and we support reactors like you quite heavily if you are any good at all. Keep up the good reactions. This is a cover of Simon & Garfunkel's "The Sound of Silence" from 1964. It has been covered by others artists as well, with Disturbed probably the other best known cover version.
Just a word of advice after watching some of your videos (Pentatonix and other content). You don't have to apologize for stopping the video/audio. This is a reaction channel, we want to see and hear what your thoughts, reactions, analysis on the material are. Whether that is sprinkled throughout the song or at the end. If people want to listen/watch uninterrupted, they can go see the original work. Reactions can get monotonous if you watch silently and just say "wow" at the end (not that you have, but a common downfall amongst some reactors). Id MUCH rather you pause several times to get your thoughts out while fresh and relevant, rather than have no pauses but also little feedback from you. Side note, yes SONY (SME) is brutal with the copyright blocking, we understand the need for filters/opacity, etc.
There is just so much talent out there that it must be difficult to decide what to react to. I have been concentrating on PTX reactions with excursions to the other acappella groups, Post Modern Jukebox, and the stunning Morgan James. Any PTX video is high on the wow factor, but I think what is really unique about them is that they cover all genres of music. I can't decide on favorite videos, but I especially like "Havana", "Amazing Grace", and their original "Sing". Love your reactions so far and am looking forward to your trip down the PTX "rabbit hole".
If you are familiar with the Wizard of Oz, then you're going to love their video of the Wizard of Ahhhhs, featuring Todrick Hall. You've got to see it and their talents. Kirsty plays 3 roles, Dorothy, the Wicked Witch of the West and the Witch of the North, Scott plays the scarecrow, Avi plays the Lion (and you'll see why), Kevin plays Toto (Dorothy's dog but in real life the dog that Kirsty is holding is Todrick's and named Toto), Mitch plays the tin man and Todrick plays the Wizard. I think you'll appreciate the ending where they pay homage to the original movie. ruclips.net/video/QkVeKb2igrg/видео.html
I haven't seen credits yet in one of their videos (I probably just missed it) for "Sing." It's a cover of the original song by Joby Talbot for the animated film, "Sing." PTXs video is a terrific salute to their fans. It'll leave you singing & dancing.
When you do "Gold", if you are not familiar with the original by Kiara, please listen to it first. Reaction or not, just to get a sense of how they adapt a song that seems impossible to adapt.
The original version of Sound of Silence was by Simon and Garfunkel. And there is another cover by Disturbed. But this PTX cover is my personal favorite!
I love to go and watch videos when they were young and just starting. I love "We are Young" by Fun, "Happy" by Pharrell Williams, and "Gangnam Style". But, I can't get enough of "Coffee In Bed" and "New Rules/Are You That Somebody".
Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel from the 60s. I think you are on the verge of becoming a Pentaholic. I recommend next an Evolution video, original music like “Sing”, “Can’t Sleep Love” or “A Little Space” or Imagine by John Lennon would be amazing. Not to complicate anything because you have lots of PTX to still check out, but you can also check all of the PTX group’s side projects. Especially, Kevin with his cello or music by Scott and Mitch (Side group name Superfruit). At some point, people will often want to see the origins of the group and watch their Sing Off performances (Scott, Mitch and Kirstie were 19. Mitch missed his high school graduation to be on the show). Thanks for the reaction.
The sound of silence was originally recorded by Simon and Garfunkel I believe art Garfunkel wrote the song when he started to become blind which he is now completely blind but then it was covered by the band Disturbed which is really intense and really awesome and who Pentatonix was inspired by to remake this version. also I really recommend you listening to their song my heart with you. it was on their latest Christmas album it has all five of them just singing there is no beatboxing. I absolutely cry every single time I hear it just because it is so beautiful.
This group made the anti Christmas anti religious person like the music. I still don't like religion but they made me appreciate the music. My favorite ptx songs are Mary did you know (which made me mad bc I don't believe in the subject matter but their rendition was perfection. My #1 is still oh come all ye faithful. Watch that to hear a truly unique take on this old classic. Also 90s dance medley, and imagine by John Lennon is a MUST, and the video is paramount for this one. Good mitch slap songs aha the Live version from star Vista, gravity, and the prayer. Theres so many more but I'll stop there. Lol
Might I suggest Mary by Patty Griffin to you. On one level it’s religious but on another level it’s about the strength and suffering of women through the ages Beautiful songb
I'm not sure why it would make you mad, people have the right to believe what they want so long as they're not hurting others. People that believe in vaccine mandates and lockdowns DO make me mad because their beliefs ARE hurting others. The same goes for people that believe in the man made global warming scam. But PTX's Christian songs are indeed beautiful.
I'm not mad at anyone for loving Mary did you know. Did I say I was? I was mad bc it was religious and I hate religion and I shouldn't like it, I wasn't saying anyone else shouldn't believe same. And incidentally who does make ne mad are anti vaxxers, anti maskers and climate change deniers. And I believe they are hurting others since I got seriously ill because of one and have lost friends and family because of them. But hey believe how you like, but don't lecture me about being mad, esp when that comment was t directed at anyone but me.
You should check out Kevin olusola's cover of "sign of the times" or "down". If you don't know Kevin is the beatboxer. He is so much more. A literal genius. Musically and academically. 😁 Might change your favorite. It did me.
The Prayer is insane man! The background vocals and harmonies are otherworldly. It features Mitch in his higher vocal range and the control he has over his voice. Kirstin
Looks like I’ll check this one out next!
Kirsten is so underappreciated.
@@aaronbarlow4376 Who is Kirsten?
@@schuhschrank947 The only girl in the group.
Kirstin sings most of "My favorite things" and "Be my eyes".
Hello. Welcome to PTX world))) It's great here! "Mad world" and "Aha" are Must Watch!!! Enjoy ☺️
That low tone from Scott is amazing. You'll notice, he takes over the bass line when the bass (either Avi or Matt) has a solo. His range is incredible. I'd love to see you react to their original song, "Sing."
I always feel like Scott's incredible voice and range are overlooked. The emotion he puts into his performances always impresses me. He's my fav!
@@lindajohns7063 mine too! I love all of them, but Scott's tone really does it for me.
I’ll ask sing to the list of DOING SOON thank you !
Imagine, the prayer
Can't hold us cover! Thanks.
Matt is the new member he’s EPIC 🔥🔥🔥

The Prayer, La La Latch, Havana for starters
Kirstin was shy in the beginning but has gotten over it. She is awesome in "Amazing Grace". She takes the lead in "My Favorite Things". (The video is non-traditional for the song.)
Their original "Love Again" is probably your kind of music.
Love to see Kirstin belting! So many choices, but Amazing Grace, Seasons of love and the Prayer would be a great start.
I am an old folky and grew up on Simon & Garfunkel’s electronic version ( not their original acoustic version that didn’t get as much air play). I'm old folky too...tough to top Simon and Garfunkels version, but you're correct in saying that PTX did a superb cover...Rock ON!!!
John Lennon's Imagine should be next! It's beautifully done and carries an important message. ❤

Their “90’s Dance Medley” is a fun one
If you like Disney PTX does a beautiful version of Can You Feel the Love Tonight
From Pentatonix check out "Love Again" and "Coffee in Bed" both originals, both upbeat, both pure fire!
'Thank you' I like as well
Also for originals, "Sing" and "Happy Now".
Gold is so good, excited for that one! Also I think you’d really like the Evolution of Beyoncé, Kevin’s beatboxing is incredible.
Their original "water" is led by Kirstin. I might also recommend the popspring version so you can enjoy a live performance
The complete four song set from Popspring 2016 is worth a reaction.
I actually found Pentatonix by watching reactions to Disturbed’s cover of Sound of Silence from 2016. I recommend you react to it! That big swell of sound at the end of so many of their videos is the Wall of Sound and they do it like no one has ever done it before!
Like my fellow pentaholics, I love to watch new reactions to Pentatonix. Enjoy your trip down the rabbit hole.
GOLD!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for your great reactions!!!
They did a great job on this song. The original was by Simon and Garfunkel and Disturbed did a cover as well. Have to say this is my favorite cover❤

Your comment that you had not heard Scott Hoying sing "in that range" before caused me to smile because you actually DID hear that range in "Hallelujah" because he picked up Avi Kaplan's bass harmonies while Avi took the melody line.

This is a cover, by the way. The original was performed by Simon & Garfunkel in 1966. Paul Simon wrote it.

Thank you so much for this feedback it actually helps alot
Totally agree! If we didn’t want to hear your thoughts, we’d watch the original (again!) And the filter/opacity on this one was fine.
Love their music. Have fun in the rabbithole
Amazing grace is another great song to listen to one of my favourites
Sound of Silence is an old Simon & Garfunkel classic 💖
Then can you feel the love tonight and dance of the prayer
I haven't seen credits yet in one of their videos (I probably just missed it) for "Sing." It's a cover of the original song by Joby Talbot for the animated film, "Sing." PTXs video is a terrific salute to their fans. It'll leave you singing & dancing.
Ah-Ahh from Singapore really features Mitch's range.
The original was written and recorded im 60s by Simon and Gargunkle
When you do "Gold", if you are not familiar with the original by Kiara, please listen to it first. Reaction or not, just to get a sense of how they adapt a song that seems impossible to adapt.
Agree!
The whole group feel that Mitch is their best singer.
We are the Pentaholics ! Welcome to the Pentatonix (PTX) rabbit hole.
We’re gonna be a while lol! I’m sure I will eventually get to EVERYTHING. Should be exciting
they do a great cover of Hallelujah also, my 2nd favorite cover after KD Lang's live covers.
Mary did you know is sooo good, i dont see it reacted to as often but its a amazing
Matt as been with the group since 2017. 😊
Kevins beatboxing is amazing in their original song coffee in bed, and Kiera's gold, and new rules / are you that somebody...
A fun colab they did with another great talent is The Wizard Of Ahhs
Lol
Right there with you. I feel exactly the same way.
Haha thank you for this !
It did me.
