    Losing point in shop class?
    1) Cutting with a power tool while holding the board with your hand.
    2) Not wearing eye protection
    3) Chiseling without securing the board.
    Not completely sure on the 3rd one, but 1 and 2 almost got me kicked out of shop class. I managed to do both at one time. The teacher hit the emergency stop on the whole shop and yelled at me and the other guy (I was holding what he was drilling) and embarrassed the hell out of me. A lesson I will never forget.

      😂😂😂 Safety was never one of my strong suits But I do have all of my fingers.. All of those are valid points LOL. I hear you on the embarrassment part. That is sometimes the best way to learn. I also wanted to throw in free hand drawing a straight line instead of using a speed square. Thank you my friend

    Thankful I took Wood shop, metal shop, mechanical drawing and small engine repair during high school. I made a shaker end table in wood shop back in the late 80's.. It's been used as a nightstand all these years and serves as a great reminder.

    I wish no one I respected told me that Industrial arts were for dummies. My brother and uncles did, so I avoided it. Worse mistake of my life. My best friend made a coffee table in 8th grade that was in his parents' house until he died. It was stunning and I could not believe how good it looked.

    Shop class was the highlight of my time in school. It's a crime that they are removing the one thing that really taught people how to be productive. 90% of what they teach in school these days is useless, but shop taught you skills that could help you fix your house, cars and build your own furniture. It's almost like they don't want kids to be self sufficient anymore.

    12 13/16ths * 5 = 64 1/16 from 65 = 1/4in dust waste and 11/16ths in solid waste and five equal working stock. Although, to get less solid waste from the board you could do 12 15/16ths in. I don't like cutting such small bits off but sometimes its necessary.....

    Just solve the problem in parts: 65/5=13. (1/4)/5=1/20. 13 - (1/20) = 12 and 19/20ths

      That sounds right? LOL I’m guessing as far as woodworking goes and tape measures, you can’t really do it just use a longer piece and throw away the excess LOL. Thank you so much for sharing this!!

    I remember those High School days. XD I never took shop class as it was a "males" class and not for Females. Meh, we got to eat cookies and pancakes though in Home Education. So, what are the mess ups in this video? No eye protection, No stable work surface/cutting surface for the wood? What am I missing?

    13 inches to make 5 equal pieces. Solved the math problem without a calculator too then.

    • @homemend
      @homemend  2 года назад

      Hey Philip I think you’re forgetting the 16th of an inch that is lost in sawdust with every cut. Come on man we can do this!

    • @philipruhland2624
      @philipruhland2624 2 года назад

      @@homemend yes. But a 16 th of an inch unless your building or making cabinets. 16th of inch isn't going to be an issue then.
