Lore: Born and raised as a human, but with the heritage of a demon. As a child, he became separated and alone the night Mundus' minions came for revenge against Sparda and his family. The next 10 years, while forever chased down by demon spawn, his trauma caused him to see his humanity as a weakness that couldn't protect him or his lost family members. So began his quest for greater demonic power, the search for his rightful inheritance at all costs, and the creation of his own legacy. The only thing that kept him going was a fundamental motivation to continue existing and grow stronger. Soon realising he wasn't the lone survivor, he met his brother for the first time in 10 years. But they immediately disagreed with each other's reason for existence - Dante cherishing his humanity and despising his demonic side. Vergil using his demonic side to its full potential and despising his human side. Dante was willing to protect the human world, while Vergil was unconcerned about the collateral damage of his plans. Inevitably they fought, and eventually Vergil lost. And in his weakened state, fell victim to Mundus' torture for another 10 years, and after Mundus' defeat he was left stranded in the underworld (Yamato shattered in the human world) barely able to defend himself for another 14 years. When he was finally able to escape, his human body was breaking apart sustained only by his weakening demonic power. He thought his only option at that point was to shed off his human half, but in doing so he (as a new Demon King) literally lost the most important parts of himself that held him back from pure depravity. His human side, meanwhile, was forced to experience true helplessness and the full emotional toll of the life he'd lived to that point, utterly devoted only to survival and power but with nothing else of worth. Though in his weakness, he also learned the strength that humanity has to offer. Cooperation, support and reckless determination, rather than pure might and subjugation. So when he returned to himself, Vergil could learn to accept his family and his legacy in a new light. Gameplay: wAcKy YoOhOo JuDgEmEnT cUt, SLAY ALL!!!
