She is the daughter of Zeus, but told by her mother at an early age that she was made of clay and brought to life by Zeus. In that way they are combining both of her comicbook orgins. Rumours say that Ares will tell her the truth and reveal that he killed Zeus.
The Amazon women were part of Greek mythology and history. Interesting that Homer talked about it in the Iliad. I'm looking forward to seeing this D.C. Character take the stage!
I will like any movie in the DC Universe for its characters by default. I understand your reservations jaby about the unchartered waters type feeling though. I will also like every video you and archara do. Keep up the great work!
In Re: Diana's/the Amazons' accent -- In the comics, Wonder Woman has had an accent for over 30 years (since the Post Crisis reboot in 1986, when a level of credibility/deeper mythology was applied to her as well as to a number of other characters). It isn't that they're trying to have the other actresses mimic Gal Gadot's accent but rather trying to simulate a High Mythic Age Greek accent (circa from the 16th thru 12th centuries BCE, approx. 3500 years ago), which is the accent that the Amazons have most often had in the comics for decades now. (Of course, in Real Life(tm), we don't know/can't say what, exactly, the proto-Hellenic accents actually sounded like... so of course we have to make it up, based on current Greek accents but shifted to "something else" so as to make it exotic/coming from another time-era.) Hope that helps!

Ryan Martin: There's a chicken-and-egg aspect to that, of course, but it's good to keep in mind that a great deal of thought/production-concept goes into the making of most superhero movies of the past couple decades (with a few obvious exceptions... though that's another conversation... ;) ) Diana having an accent, as a production note, has been in preliminary outlines since the proposed WB production slated for 1990. (Of course, the 2011 production went with a standard, "flat" American accent... but then, that pilot had whole other sets of issues about... lol) The concept-work for WW was in place well before Gadot was cast; any adjustments/fine-tuning would have occurred after the various women were auditioned/considered. (One of Gadot's selling points -- beyond her physical appearance -- likely *was* the relative aspect of her accent, which if you'll note is itself subtly tweaked for the movie/DCCU franchises: she speaks with a slightly different accent in several places than she does in her normal speaking voice. She already had a quality to her voice that they were looking for in the first place.) Again, context w/ chickens and eggs....
Ryan Martin: but the thing is, it *is* part of the discussion. It's clarifying/counterpointing the OP's conjecture about the accents. Does Gal's natural accent have bearing on things from a production POV? Of course. That's the case with many actors/roles. But the more direct, underlying point is that Gal was cast (after a number of actresses had been considered for several years, since the late 00's) for several reasons, one of which was her obviously strong (though still understood) accent. The production was looking for a WW/actress with the idea of likely going the route of the comics as-they-had-been for decades: a Diana who speaks with a foreign, somewhat-out-of-time accent. Gal's accent (especially, if noted, when she slightly shifts her accent as Diana -- she flattens certain parts of her pronunciation while slightly shift-biasing others -- which is subtly-but-still-discernible as different from her own natural speaking voice) plays a good part of the process, but the idea itself predated her -- not just in the comics, but from a production-concept agenda. That is, it's not solely predicated on her own voice, but a case of using her accent as a base and then tweaking it to the (conceptualized) end-result of a "strange, foreign accent". (Several review vids, not just this one, have commented on trying to figure out what accent, exactly, the amazons have -- and *that's the point*/desired end-result: they have an accent that is something *just off* from what one would "expect" to hear... which makes sense given that they are speaking from a time several thousand years removed from today. Sidenote: that they apparently speak English can, per the usual for mystical/fantasy settings, be written off to either magic or meta-narrative conceit.)
And, of course, it should go without saying that if you feel this is getting into an area that isn't worth discussing... well... _why did you comment/respond in the first place to a sub-thread that_ *was* _ discussing it..._? That's very similar to walking into a room, trying to jump into a conversation, discover that it's a bit more to it, then hand-waiving the (very contextually valid) remarks/points that another person has made concerning said subject. It's a little... weird... don't you think...?
The one thing that has had me worried about this and what the trailer assuages is super-strength. Up to now, it's been mostly sword play with hints of her power i.e., using her shield to knock over Doomsday and to block the car he throws at her. This time she picks up that truck and throws it. Yeehaw!

Just a note about the costume you pointed out Jaby, you gotta remember that this is all about 150 years or so before BVS. So there was a lot of aging on her costume by that time.

As for the question about the accent: I think they're just trying to match Gadot's accent, so it's not weird that only her character has one. Or they're just syncing mother and daughter so they speak similarly.

FINALLY! Someone who recognizes that the WW theme doesn't fit the tone of any of the trailers! They should have saved it for the movie instead of shoehorning it in every chance they get. Great trailer though, and I can always expect honest, great content from you Jaby!
