  • Join me in Pattaya, during my first week in Thailand. I nearly didn't make it as I was asked for an onward flight on my flight to Thailand from the UK. I hadn't got an onward flight as I had booked a one way ticket only as I was not sure when I was going to fly back to the UK.

This is the new 60-day *visa exempt* rule. Meaning you don't have to apply for a visa to get 60-days anymore. When this offer ends, who knows? Many make the mistake of thinking when they arrive that they get a 30-day or currently 60-day visa. They don't. It's visa EXEMPT, meaning you're exempt from requiring a visa. A visa is something which you have to pay for and requires many personal checks, such as bank balance, accommodation, etc. The outbound flight is to deter overstayers, hence the need for a return flight on a 60-day visa exempt. A proper visa allows you to stay longer and not need a return flight. Also, the Thai gov't made it a requirement of the airlines to check and deny passengers without the proper visa/paperwork and make them liable. Immigration don't necessarily intervene as it's your airline that will be liable.

@SmartCookie2022 I had heard of the 60-day visa free period before flying out to Thailand in late October. The airline who I used said I had 30 days, so I was surprised when given 60 days. I wasn't asked if I had an ongoing flight in Thailand it was in the UK where they questioned it. I hadn't booked a return flight because I wasn't sure what date I would return. Everything worked out in the end.

Did you book a one way ticket or return flight to Thailand?

According to immigration, you are required to have a return flight ticket, hardly enforced.😅

@indiandaeng No, it wasn't enforced. The staff at Birmingham International Airport were reluctant to let me board my flight, but there were no problems in Thailand.
