I don’t know if u still read these after being so long since the hike but I’ve been meaning to message u for almost a year now! I live in Minneapolis and had never hiked aside from as a teenager in Alaska. I’m now 37. I had been doing nothing with my days off for almost 4 years. I one morning this last January was bored going through RUclips and just happen to see yur two videos of the SHT...u instantly had me hooked! I watched your two videos maybe 30 times each along with the rest of yur videos in preparation for spring to get out there and start my journey! I started the SHT in May at the southern terminus and I’ve been heading north. I now get out there and hike section by section every Sunday or Monday or camp out and do both days heading home mondays since I have to work Tuesdays. But man I’m telling ya, u changed my life and I mean that!! I would’ve NEVER thought a year ago I would be a dedicated hiker every weekend and watch hiking RUclips videos all the time! I loved yur videos of yur AT hike!! It was awesome! I just passed Tettegouche State Park with my last hike and left off at Section 13 so I’m just over half way done with the SHT, but I just had to thank u for yur videos. U truly inspired me to get out there. Now I feel like I’ll be a lifelong hiker all thanks to u! Keep the videos coming! I love em!! 🤘🏼

Great continuation of part 1. I stumbled along your AT 2019 video during the Covid19 crisis which ultimately lead me here. Love your one-liners throughout the trip....."I'm making great time now, 'slosh, slosh, slosh' ". And BTW, I too struggle with rubbernecking at overlooks whether I'm hiking or car touring along scenic drives, it definitely slows me down....thus learning to schedule less and allowing more time to stop for the overlooks! ps, Gary's a great sport with all the impromptu interviews, lol!

Our whole weeks trip is probably less than one of your day hikes. It will be my son, grandson and daughter in law I just hope I don't slow them down too much now that I am an old geezer. This will be my 3 rd year out. Wish I had started when I was younger. Hope to try hammock camping next year. Knowing Shawn he will plan it above the tree line. ha ha This year I think it is 9,000 or 10,000 ft, Glad you are back safe and sound. I have been enjoying your channel thanks. I was so surprised when I hopped on the scale the next morning. It was hard to eat that much food, but like you said my calorie intake was spot on, keep in mind we did bring some extra meals to eat just in case and stopped in town for food on top of what we brought. I probably needed 4000 extra calories somewhere. Everything got eaten in my food bag.

Really enjoyed this series. I'm glad that you did a 14 day trip. Very different from your usual trips, and enjoyed it a lot. Would be cool to see you do one like this on the John Muir Trail! You did a good job of editing it. They were long, but less than 1.5hr each. I think you gave good information and shared good locations in a concise way. Thank you for sharing!

I'm trying to film just that today. I think it would be useful for anyone that is planning a longer distance trip that's never done one before. Like I wish we could have watched a video like the one I am filming today.

Well Jason I feel your happiness about you journey. I toataly enjoyed it. And by the way every view is always welcomed. Nature has a way of healing and renewing your soul. AWESOME HIKE. I will be looking for that informative video of the trip Thank you for the experience. I am so glad you chose not to go with a loud music background it kind a ruins the viewing for me but you always do great editing.

Yea nothing like full blast house music in the middle of a nature video. I made all my music in FL studio strictly for these videos.

Loved it Frozen and Gary! I was glad to know Gary turned out Ok and thanks for sharing your adventure. I agree...you are ready to do the AT someday. You're going to love it. By the way, surprised to see the fastest AT speed record was broken in the past week or two by "Stringbean." 45 Days for all 2,189 miles. Too fast for me to enjoy but everyone hikes their own hike.

Yea I saw that article. I don't think I could ever do it that fast, unassisted too! Don't think I would want to though, he did it to raise awareness for his brother who had cancer I believe or some terminal illness. Had to push fast to make headlines.

I’m watching your videos SHT videos again in honor of watching one year ago and deciding to get out there and get er done! BUT now that I’ve done half the trail I watch and u and Gary skipped past Fault Line Ridge because of the Beaver Bay stop in town and now when I hear u say u don’t think u missed any views I feel so bad for u! It was ALL views!! Lol actually some of the best inland views the guidebook doesn’t tell u about! Hopefully u come back again and hit that area and the southern end! There’s so much to see on the south end of the trail that u missed! Would love to see u out here and hit the SHT again!! Hike on my man! 🤘🏼

Darn! It would have been a very late night if we would have walked out the same way we came in. I plan on doing it again someday and planning out resupply points a little better so I can complete the whole thing and not skip any sections. Something I regret now.

It’s definitely worth the trip! I’d be cool to see u back out here again and maybe meet up for a short section and do some hiking!

So cool you guys loved the trail. Bummer you missed Split Rock, that is one of my favorite spots on the trail. I am all for light weight footwear, but if I am hiking the SHT or mountains heavier boots are a must for me personally. SHT can really do a number on your feet as the conditions almost always are wet in places. This is where I struggle, my boots (Zamerberland Tofane) are BOMB proof, but they really are heavy but my feet stay perfectly dry. I have a few pair of "waterproof" shoes, but they just don't hold up to the punishment of the SHT. I'd like to find a pair of boots that maintain the bomb proofedness , but that are lighter. My boots are more than twice as heavy as shoes. Anyway, SHT is tough, really impressed with your guys effort and seemingly stead fast positive attitude - which is as essential as piece of gear you have. Good videos, good trip - thanks for sharing.
Does your selfie stick attach to your trekking pole? I've never used one.

Thanks for the cool videos of your SHT adventure! I enjoyed watching it! I usually do dayhikes, but I'd really like to try some multi-day-backpacking trips here (in Germany). Unfortunately you're not allowed to camp in the woods here... so you have to go to an official campground with lots of tents an caravans... which I dont like... Anyways - thanks for your videos!

Cool video, thanks for spending the time to take us along via video. Living in MN the North Shore is one of my favorite places and I have seen many of the nice water falls along the North Shore all the way to Canada. I have hiked some small parts of the Superior Hiking Trail, around Tettegouche State Park and Bear and Bean Lake. What is the stuff you are using on your feet? I will be hiking Philmont Scout Ranch this summer with our Scout troop and probably should have something for my feet. Thanks again! ~ Steve
