  • Hello there beautiful humans!
Is any of you on a gluten free diet or knows someone who is?
Well, Italy is not a bad place to be coeliac after all!

Rome is the best place I have been to eat as a person with celiac disease. I live in Canada, and we are not as good at reducing cross-contamination! I was super impressed by the food in Rome.

Omg, this is amazing, I've never heard about anything similar in any country (well definitely not in the Czech republic)! The fact that you have a whole association for celiacs and its certified restaurants is gorgeous, I'm really surprised, because Italy is - as you said - a glutenland :D But that's probably the reason behind it - so much gluten led to a higher percentage of people with gluten intolerance in your population :(

I recommend the find me gluten free app. It’s not always up to date and it doesn’t have every restaurant but it is very useful as well.

I think doing a quick Google search will be useful or even asking. If not most places now are very aware of the subject.

I had no idea restaurants can do no cross contamination. That is impressive! I usually just take the risk bc my only symptom was depression.

Hello i have question-in america we have to get a food handlers permit card to be able to prepare food. If you have something like this in Italy, do they also require people to learn about celiac when they get their permit? It’s crazy to me how educated people sound in Italy. Here in USA people are under diagnosed and misdiagnosed with IBS.

Gluten free pasta in Italia is not so bad, Italians perfect pasta no matter what. Gluten free pizza is good also, the dough is different but not had. I couldn't imagine being celiac, my diet consists of pasta and pizza being a vegan which is another story but I never had a problem finding vegan options in Italy, I miss Italy and can't wait to move back soon.
