How to create a simple silhouette embroidery design from a photo using Inkscape (FREE) and SewArt.

  • SewArt is a fantastic, inexpensive program that allows you to create embroidery designs. It allows you to import a photo, reduce its colors and then build an embroidery design based on the color reduction. Sometimes, however, if you know your resulting design is just going to be one color, it's easier to create a silhouette of your subject first, save it as a SVG, then import it into SewArt.
    In this video, I'll show you how to do exactly this. We will open a photo in Inkscape and then draw a silhouette around it. Next, we will save that silhouette as an SVG file and then import it into SewArt.
    Importing SVG files into SewArt means no color reduction. All your work is done!
