FYI for anyone interested if you are considering Rocket. As of today. If you use the link in the description and purchase level 1 you will most likely be offered levels 2 & 3 for an additional $60 and will decrease to $50 if you say no (saving an additional $70 versus buying all 3 together)
I'm interested in learning Spanish. I am a Mexican American father of 3 teenagers. None of us can speak Spanish fluently. I always get blamed for not teaching them Spanish, but I was never taught myself. I'm tired of blaming my parents and making excuses to my children. It's time to learn my native tongue and teach my children! Thank you TPI!
This is so helpful for an intermediate (French) learner. There's a lot of great apps for beginners, but that focus on short conversations--stressing the importance of listening to full sentences and not just words in isolation--that's golden for me!
For me, I'm currently starting to get into learning Japanese. This is a mix of personal and professional for me but eventually I aim to pass the JLPT N1 and hopefully apply for a job in Japan to go live there!
I'm currently learning several languages, but my main focus are Finnish and Japanese. I began finnish 3 months ago because of Eurovision lol (I stan Käärijä) but just kinda fell in love with the language. I have an upper A2-low B1 level in Japanese, my main goal is to be able to fully understand my favorite video games and books in Japanese.
I love the look of Rocket Languages but it’s languages are quite limited. My husband is learning Greek with Duolingo but it has its limitations. I am learning Spanish but, living in the UK, Castilian Spanish is more useful to me that Latin American. However, I am reliably informed that they are largely similar so I might try out the free trial and see how it fits with what I want to do. Thank you for the review.
Hello, i am native spanish speacker, i am study english and i would like speack with native english speacker -if is ok for you could have some real conversations in both languages. Regards.
Thanks for the reviews. I would love to learn Italian 🇮🇹 . I currently speak just native language, i'm middle aged so the brain doesn't feel like the sponge it once was. Goal /desire is to be conversational by end of the year.
I'm currently learning Russian, as My Love and her family speaks Russian. This is both great for my motivation, and a great assistance in my efforts. I also have some Slavic friends that speak Russian. I am also learning Arabic whenever I don't feel like doing Russian, or the mood strikes me, as I intend to read the Qur'an in Arabic (I'm Christian, and plan to also learn Hebrew and Greek eventually), and because I have multiple friends that speak Arabic natively (both Christian and Muslim). I much prefer learning languages I will actually be able to use at least semi-regularly, hence I'm starting with Russian and Arabic.
Heyo! Oh snap, Rocket for the win baby haha :D. My Japanese has gotten pretty good thanks to Rocket. I think I am going to include Memrise as a supplement course from now on. I will say personally as a notable mention Chat-GPT has been a great help with language learning. It can help explain grammar more in depth and give nice examples for sentences, it kind of acts as a teacher and has helped me understand Japanese more. Minasan Ganbarimashō!
I'm leaning Japanese, been trying to learn for a few years but haven't gotten myself to fully commit regularly due to time constrains. So far I've been trying to practice my speaking and listening by conversing with my boyfriend in Japanese whenever I can. Being dyslexic I also struggle with languages. Growing up, my first language was English and my second was Chinese, I struggle with Chinese a lot and I am still at an elementary level. I hope one of these learning tools can help me with my language learning journey!
My Duolingo subscription has just expired, where I really enjoyed learning or just listening to different languages. Primarily I've been learning French in English there as a Hungarian and I also took delight of Brasilian Portugues, which was fun after French and with some Italian knowledge. I know that Duolingo is not enough when learning a language, so it is great that I've come across this video and I'm eager to visit the proposed sites and apps. Should I be 1 of the free language course winners, I'd like to go on with the French language then. 🙂 Thanks indeed and good luck to you, too!
This was really helpful cause I’m using Pimsleur right now.. to learn Dutch… I have a baby in the Netherlands so I figure I should learn how to speak to them eventually… wanted to get another supplement. Was wondering if I should go with Rosetta Stone or Memrise, and this video helps. I think I’ll try memorize as you recommend that is a good supplemental so thank you.
Great video, thanks! I'm learning Spanish. It's always been my desire to learn Spanish and I've taken courses, used apps, etc over the years. Especially now, I find that retiring to a Latin American country for part of the year has really cut down on my expenses and has allowed me to fulfil that specific dream for me. It's been too easy to stay within the English expat bubble however I want to fully enjoy my time there and interact with the locals in a more meaningful way.
I have been loving the reviews from this channel! I am learning both Japanese (for school) and Portuguese (for pleasure) and I have been loving both of them, especially Portuguese for how fun it sounds!! keep on with the great content!
Great review video, I found this very helpful! I'd like to learn Portuguese, as it is my family's background, but my own experience with it is very lacking. My challenge is that I'd prefer to learn European Portuguese whereas many courses only offer Brazilian Portuguese. I understand the dialects are very similar, but the difference is relevant to me due to the family component.
I'm learning French because part of my 2023 goals was to learn a new language, it's also useful because I'm surrounded by Francophone countries and intend to immigrate to one French country one day. Learning languages is fun!
This is very helpful, thanks! I’ve already done ALL of the French lessons in Pimsleur three or four times! It was well worth it. I’m going to check out Rocket Languages next. Thanks!
I’m currently learning french in person, however I’ve noticed commute and travel because of work has been an issue lately so I’m looking now for an option to learn on the go and lucky me this video was uploaded less than 2 weeks ago!
Thank's guys! Pimslur and Rocket Languages have been things I've been looking at for a long time (although I've also heard and seen good things about Babel but I'm more looking for audio lesions). You guys have said many times Rocket Languages is the way to go, so I'm planning on picking one of their courses up. Now It's just about deciding witch of the amazing languages to learn!
I’m currently learning Southern dialect Vietnamese right now to communicate l with my in-laws who are from Vietnam and were able to come to the USA because my grandfather in law served with the south Vietnamese and US army, my husband and I recently got married and he was born here. I especially am trying hard for my husbands grandmother who lives with his parents and doesn’t speak English. My husband parents can speak English OK. I will consider the rocket languages! It seemed really nice from your review, I like the conversation style a lot because it’s super practical! And I love to study so 1 hour is fine! Haha
I'm an arab & I aim to learn english & italian, I can talk & write in english but I want to improve it so I can have better job opportunities & be able to travel, I know no italian at all but want to learn it so I can have my masters there
Many thanks! Not only did it point me to an app that I didn't know before, it also motivated me to start right away. And paying quite some money seems like a plus to me - if I spent meaningful money, I'm more than motivate to get something out of it :)
Hi. Looking at these sites, for Rocket and Babbel they're great if you want to learn French, Spanish, Italian or German etc. While I would love to learn French and Italian, want to learn Czech as part of my heritage. Pimsleur seems to be the only offer the widest selection of languages. Do you have a video or other suggestions for the best sites with the widest selection of languages?
You nailed it, for less spoken languages (like Czech) Pimsleur is definitely your best bet. They cover 50+ languages. There are other apps out there that cover more, but we like Pimsleur the best of the programs that have broader coverage.
Be very very careful of Babbel please people! They will send lots of emails/ communication until they realise you're not doing much then they are silent. No more encouragement, all contact stops. No warning that you are nearing the end of the contract. After it ends they just charge your credit card for the next whole year at full price! (Check ALL the small print) I'm sure this must happen to many... Mine was supposedly a special offer for a limited time.. It's sharp, quite predatory behaviour..
Thanks for the info. I choose Babbel for Spanish and got the lifetime sub (at a discount). Tried Rosetta Stone and without any explanations, I wasn't catching on to why verb endings were different (really pics only - not English explanations / teaching). Looking forward to what Babbel can teach me.
Hi John! Thank you for your videos! I have been wanting to learn a new language for a long time. I have been overseas for 5 years (in various countries) and I notice many countries are AT LEAST bilingual. I think it is absolutely awesome but I feel left out. I used to take Spanish in school and that is where I will start. I retained a bit of vocabulary so I think it’ll be easiest for me to pick up. Again thank you for your videos and your insight!
Pimsleur and Rosetta Stone both have a LOT. Pimsleur has 51, Rosetta Stone has 25. The rest on this list have less, but these are just 2 of the top 5. There are dozens of language learning apps out there. What language are you wanting to learn?
PS: I’m studying Spanish and Persian right now. Most apps have Spanish, very few have Persian. Pimsleur and Rosetta Stone both offer Persian and Memrise has a user developed section of courses for less common languages. They have Persian there and it is great, even though their app doesn’t have it.
Ciao everyone! 🌟 I'm diving into the world of Italian language and culture, and it's been an incredible journey so far! I study in italy and I want to indulge in there culture and make a good living in italy and many small cities in italy and purely Italian language based I mean they only speak Italian and it’s hard to survive without Italian there
To answer your question, I'm trying to learn Spanish for work because I travel a lot, and many of my colleagues speak different languages like Spanish, Tagolog, French, Chinese, and Russian. Learning new languages would enable me to connect with everyone on a more personal level, help me to communicate as a leader at work, and also as a friend in my local community. Personally, I agree that Rocket 🚀 is the best, but it is SO pricey. Please help, and thank you for this informative video! I love your content.
Great video... thank you. It is interesting to see the different approaches and learning styles each offers. I appreciate the deep dive into the details to figure out what might work for me.
Salaam (peace) Thanks for the great 2023 (to date) breakdown of the best language learning apps. Rocket would have fit perfectly in quest to master Indonesian. Unfortunately, Indonesian is not part of their offering. Thank you for your consistant updates. PS. Which one would be the best to get me to conversational Indonesian faster?
I wish I found this channel sooner! I was surprised to find videos about dat prep! I was studying for the dat last year, and have been studying Spanish this year! Love how you promote resources! Low-key it'd be cool if you looked at resources like little pim for kids. My nephew has been wanting to also learn spanish
Super insightful! Currently learning Portuguese and thinking of taking on Chinese, definitely a helpful video on different apps. Rocket languages seems great. Also any update on an asvab test prep?
I married a Latina. Her family doesn't speak English so I need to learn Spanish so I can communicate with them. I also need to be able to be able to understand and converse in Spanish with our Latino group of friends.
Im attempting Russian! What a unique and interesting language it is. Plus learning the cyrilic alphabet has been a fun challenge. I'd love to be fluent one day and possibly move on to some other language interests of mine like German, French, Spanish and Portuguese!
This was super helpful! Trying to make the choice for the perfect way for my autistic son to learn Spanish. His God mother’s first language, English being her second. He doesn’t like not understanding what she’s saying to him when he upsets her🤦🏻♀️ and is determined to learn.
It's in the same category as Duolingo for us. It's a great program for basic, quick lessons, but not viable as a standalone program to become fully fluent. It would make a nice complement to another program.
Hey, thanks for the review...Learning French and Korean. French will help as I am aiming bschool in france and learning korean coz I consume lot of korean content and would to visit once.
Also side question: My mom is taking some free ESL classes locally. The instructor recommends Duolingo since it's free and one of her classmates who speaks Farsi noticed it doesn't have Persian (Farsi) as an option to learn English. Do you know what free language learning app might have ESL for Farsi speakers??
What type of language app should I used if I want to learn russian or spanish? Im more visual than an audio learner but I also would like to learn how to write in russian?
They don't have a daily time schedule or goal. One lesson = one hour. But you can always pause at any time and come back. They don't serve up daily bite-sized lessons. It's more self-driven.

I’m learning Korean so I can comprehend movies and songs without subtitles AND I’m learning Latin so I can understand ancient texts and pray in Latin.

Dios te bendiga
I'm learning Spanish, because I'm a flight attendant with a high Hispanic population. Learning would help me serve my Hispanic guests better
That’s so accommodating
Very cool, great reason to learn
How is the progress. What app are you using? TIA
Yeah I just moved to Miami and I did not know Spanish was such a high spoken language. I’m definitely trying to learn more Espanol
Have you learned more spanish

Yes! Totally agree! Thanks for watching

Finnish American here. Tough but fun language.

No problem! Glad we could help. For Castilian Spanish specifically, Pimsleur has a dedicated course. Just FYI

Thank you for this detailed review. Pimsleur or Rocket sound like the best fit for me. I want audio lessons. Thank you!
I recommend mango languages, it’s free if you have a library card, and it is completely audio based.
@ Test Prep Insight, the Memrise link is broken. And it's $29 a month, not $5.

Swedish and for College.
Very cool :)
Thank you for the video..... I would love to brush up my french and maybe begin learning something new preferably Italian or even Russian.
Nice! Thanks for watching
Ooohhh I might go for Rocket or Pimsleur (since I drive for around 30 mins to work almost every day)
Either of those would be a great fit then. Good luck!
Another great video giving details on language acquisition platforms. This really helps match the program with the specific needs of the learner.
Omg thank you for the code. I have been stuck on which program to choose. I went with rocket based on your review. Wish me luck.
Good luck!! Thanks for watching!

Hi. Great information. I want to learn Italian and this video is just what I needed. I’m going to try Rocket or Babbel, or maybe both.
Be very very careful of Babbel please people!
They will send lots of emails/ communication until they realise you're not doing much then they are silent.
No more encouragement, all contact stops.
No warning that you are nearing the end of the contract.
After it ends they just charge your credit card for the next whole year at full price!
(Check ALL the small print)
I'm sure this must happen to many... Mine was supposedly a special offer for a limited time..
It's sharp, quite predatory behaviour..
I'm trying to learn Italian too!
Nice! Yeah it really differs based on learning style. Hope Babbel works out for you. Thanks for watching!
Totally agree. There are so many benefits to being bilingual. Spanish sounds like a good place to start. Good luck!!
Pimsleur has been perfect for me with French, when I used it.
But I agree. Someone's learning style is unique to them.
Agree! Thanks for watching :)
I would like to learn French. Considering Rocket.
Nice! Good luck!
I'm wanting to learning Spanish. Thinking about either Rocket or Babbel.
Good luck. Thanks for watching!
Had not heard of Rocket until now! Thank you!
You're welcome!
Guess I'm going with Rocket! Thanks for the review, you've helped me so much!
Glad we could help! Thanks for watching and sharing!

the Spanish one is really needed for my job
To answer your question, I'm trying to learn Spanish for work because I travel a lot, and many of my colleagues speak different languages like Spanish, Tagolog, French, Chinese, and Russian. Learning new languages would enable me to connect with everyone on a more personal level, help me to communicate as a leader at work, and also as a friend in my local community. Thank you for this great video! Really like those reviews
What about Lingvist?
Another great review. So sad that Rocket Languages doesn't have a Dutch course yet.

Thank you for the extremely informative video
You bet! Thanks for watching
Can all the apps you mentioned here be used in the car while driving? Best App for this?
Best app for the car is either Pimsleur or Rocket Languages. For driving, def want to focus on audio-based apps. Pimsleur has a special driving mode.
Rocket, roseta stone, and memorize sounds like a very good combination to me
Yes, all have differing strengths
I need to learn French so that I will have a leg up to be chosen as a flight attendant at an older age. Thanks for all your great info!
Best of luck!

Im attempting Russian! What a unique and interesting language it is. Plus learning the cyrilic alphabet has been a fun challenge. I'd love to be fluent one day and possibly move on to some other language interests of mine like German, French, Spanish and Portuguese!
Very cool! What app are you using?
@TestPrepInsight I was using Duolingo but seriously debating switching to Babbel 😃
Rocket seems to only offer Latin American Spanish. I plan to move to Spain next year. Are the differences that profound?
Yes, so you may want to consider Pimsleur. They have a dedicated Castilian Spanish course. Good luck!
Working on learning Spanish with my son. Mainly just to do it, it's good for the brain and would be helpful in the area we live to know it.
that's great! always better when you learn with someone
Learning spanish for a trip/move to Columbia
Awesome :)
First you need to learn how to write it properly its Colombia!!!
Learning Latin Spanish and hoping to reach a level where I can help immigrants with translation services.
Nice. That's a great reason to learn
do you have any videos about apps that leverage AI in their lessons ? like 'falou' for example
does the writing lessons in rocket let you actually type the answer ? or do we simply pick from an available balloon choice ?
Rocket lessons include reading, writing, speaking, listening comprehension, grammar, and cultural content.
This was super helpful! Trying to make the choice for the perfect way for my autistic son to learn Spanish. His God mother’s first language, English being her second.
He doesn’t like not understanding what she’s saying to him when he upsets her🤦🏻♀️ and is determined to learn.
That is great, best of luck to you guys!!
Thank you! ❤ In the next video, can you review the French Together app?
great review! Want to learn spanish and italian better!
Sweet! Thanks for watching :)
What are your thoughts on Busuu
It's in the same category as Duolingo for us. It's a great program for basic, quick lessons, but not viable as a standalone program to become fully fluent. It would make a nice complement to another program.
Hey, thanks for the review...Learning French and Korean. French will help as I am aiming bschool in france and learning korean coz I consume lot of korean content and would to visit once.
That's awesome. Thanks for watching and sharing!
Thanks for giving the people want they want a short comprehensive video that easily guides user in making a wiser decision.
Nice, glad you liked it and that we could help :)
What plans have family plan besides Duolingo? Any?
Pimsleur
This is the information I needed... thanks
Glad we could help!
I am learning Norwegian because I would like to get an internship in Norway for architecture.
You might need a combo of Rocket Russian and Rosetta Stone. Would be a good combo in your case.
@@TestPrepInsight what app you believe will help learning turkish?
Thank you for providing all the discount codes and great information. Very thorough videos.
Does rocket language have a daily time schedule like others? 15, 20, 30 minutes etc?
They don't have a daily time schedule or goal. One lesson = one hour. But you can always pause at any time and come back. They don't serve up daily bite-sized lessons. It's more self-driven.
Is there a program that can teach a language to a young non reader without having to know the nouns, verbs...
I would suggest focusing on an audio-based program, such as Rocket Languages or Pimsleur for that scenario
