@@ellie_stipp3337 even though we had rest en between each 50m so we could hit pace, it was very hard since they're 20. That sure blasted my lactic acid in my blood and my muscles were aching and extremely sore the day after. Thank God we had recovery the next day.
I once read about an interview with michael Phelps coach. Coach was asked the toughest set he gave out ? 20 x 200M Butterfly with 5 second rest in between at race pace. The journalist asked "why would you disclose your secrets for competitors to hear ? Coach's reply " because no other Fucker would do what Michael does in training"
There's this event called 'The Wall' - it's a 1500m that's split into 800m free + 100m fly + 200m Bk + 200m B/S + 200m free. Swimming that as a raced event can sort you out if you haven't properly trained for it. Although the best part is the turn out of the fly into the back. You come up on your back and your body goes, "Mmmmmmmmmmmmm. At last." (I'm mostly a specialist backstroker ...) 800m Medleys are "fun" too.
We have EEFAS, Every Event From A Start. You start with a 1500 and work your way through, it's max effort no rest between each event and you have to do a proper race start for each event.
16 x 600m freestyle at strong/almost sprinting pace with 30 seconds of rest in between each one. If you gave up or skipped a 50 you had to do an extra set at the end of practice. I didnt skip or give up but the people that did had to do 8 x 200 IM descending pace
for me anything butterfly or 12:100's main pull (breastoke pull is the worst ) or just anything butterfly oh and freestyle sprints i hate sprinting i love distance in racing but hate training it
@@cyathoris7530 I'd say 400IM is relatively easy if you go slow and cruise, but pushing it in an actual race kills. 4000 on the other hand.. Geez anything longer than 100 fly doesn't matter how easy you take it.. I would've been pulling out the 1 armed strokes whenever coach wasn't looking.
@@robbiemedica2652 I was in a race but I only did it because I didn’t have a time for it since I was 10 years old as my breaststroke is pretty weak. The pool was 33 degrees (Celsius) so I fried like I never did before

I once did a short-course 1500 at race pace, on a 40 degree day, indoors under a tin roof, in a pool that was at least 36 degrees (I asked the owner afterwards, and he kinda laughed when he told me). I finished the 1500 but couldn't do the rest of the session. (The time was a national record for my age, but I think the vomit afterwards was also a national record.) There were only one or two other people in the pool, because, as the owner said, "It's actually too hot to be swimming."
Worst punishment set 48x100 fly. No specific time, something around 1:30. It was just ment to make you suffer. Sometimes I still have nightmare about that 🤮 and it was about 15 years ago
I once did 12 x 75m butterfly and thought it was going to be super hard but you actually get into a pace and you don't feel your arms burning. So I would say that my hardest set was 15 x 100m best average. ( i'm a sprinter so this was absolute torture )
6×200 fly. I was 13yo back then. And another one: 16×100 in your main stroke (mine is fly), but you do 25max, then 5sec rest and that 4 times. I don't know how you call it, we call it 100m broken. (Actually I didn't swim this one I was sitting outside with a broken thumb, but I saw the others (mostly 12yo) suffer)

Once a year in winter training we dedicate a day to 100 x 100s and let me tell you it is HELL
Ohhhhhh I would diiiiieee
we do the same on the 4th of july, i just had my set of 100x 100s on the 1:15 yesterday
These comments make me appreciate my sets at swimming more.
all these comments here about all these sets and i cant even do a 100 butterfly
Oof bro
42x50m butterfly mark my words. Rest 1min every 20x50's and the last two are @200m pace.
That’s gotta be ugly
@@ellie_stipp3337 oh yeah, you should try it. It is hard, believe me. Pretty sure I saw god during the set specially since the 40 of 42 were @100pace
