The artstyle is well replicated. It reminds me of the Papercraft and Giant battles from the 3DS games. There were 3D models used there.
The first thing shown off at the direct. They really started and finished strong. I had that giant smile plastered across my face the moment I saw the two bros back to back, and I knew that justice had returned.
We now have 3!!! DIFFERENT MARIO RPGS ON 1 SYSTEM!!!!
2 of them being remakes, one of them being entirely new.

Back then they were just sprites, but still funny stuff. This is the first official time we get to see the Bros. humor in action in full 3D!

Hopefully some other characters return, like Kylie Koopa, Popple or Prince Peasely. This is looking like Kirby and the Forgotten Land where there are some remotely familiar characters and enemies, but there are also new ones, since you’re in a new world.

First a Mario RPG remake, then a remake make of Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door. Now, a new Mario and Luigi game, were in the golden age of Mario rpgs.
Thank Arceus they aren’t going in the direction Paper Jam did where we only the generic Mario elements (grassland, desert, beach, forest, etc) and NPC’s (toads, goombas, koopas, etc), and I’m glad Mario and Luigi have a new companion that isn’t Starlow. Not saying she was bad, but she kind of overstayed her welcome by the time the SuperStar Saga remake came out.
I AM LEGIT IN TEARS. Mario and Luigi was literally my childhood and my favorite Mario spin-off. I’ve been praying for this day to come. I am so happy I can’t even put it into words. It’s back and it looks better than EVER! I can’t wait!

Yes finally they made a new Mario and Luigi RPG game god I've been waiting so long
They look like the sprites from the giant battles from Dream team
Something interesting about this game, in-concept, is how they structured it's premise to be closer to a Fantasy J-RPG as a way to give it's feel its own identity when compared to Mario RPG which is straight up a RPG Mario-experience, or Paper Mario which is an Aesthetic-based strategy RPG;
Whereas Mario & Luigi: Brotherhood seems to seek to redirect the franchise's identity by sticking true to the classic J-RPG formula; Shaded and stylized Anime-inspired models, fantasy/medieval world/character design, and opting to do the typical "Isekai" schtick these J-RPG games are often known for.
It seems this was Nintendo's way of sorting the Mario RPG issue by, instead of making players choose one-or-the-other through relegating other series into other genras for distinction meanwhile M&L only remained as a RPG; What they did was have each RPG entry offer something different in themeing and feel that equated to each side of the Mario-RPG Trinity feeling vastly different:
The "Super Mario RPG" Series is Mario's spin into Final Fantasy-esque RPGs, pretty bare ones.
The "Paper Mario" Series, thanks to the success of TTYD, may see a resurgence in being quirky storybook stories told through an RPG structure.
And finally! The "Mario & Luigi *J-RPG* " series may have chosen to return as the weird sibling which takes a more traditional but just as weird approach; Being a Fantasy J-RPG series, which in a sense makes complete sense considering SS and DT where all about exploring new worlds and uncovering their lore, it was all about adventurism and learning different cultures, so this is a choice that although odd seems like a match made in heaven!

I thought if we got a New Mario & Luigi game it would be Partners in Time remake. But this is amazing Mario RPGs are back. This probably also means that the next paper Mario game will also be a game with original characters and locations
