i like your theory a lot, it makes so much sense. i have two additional theories about "Zag". the first one is that it does exist or she'll make it at some point and it's just not being dropped immediately after Zig. the second is that the "Zig Outtakes" are what would've been Zag and poppy posted them because she scrapped the idea. if you don't know, 8 unreleased Zig era songs were posted on the internet and they suspiciously were high quality and had a well cropped cover from one of her photoshoots to go with them (it was the photo you said you wished was the cover in one of your zig reactions). and knowing poppy she does at this point garde her unreleased music really well. having a leak that massive of songs off of a project that was already dropped is pretty unlikely. the unreleased songs were much more experimental and spanned many different styles so they might have been some of the better songs she made while trying to figure out what Zag should sound like. btw the "Zig Outtakes" are all compiled in a 20 minutes video that is on a RUclips channel called "allyn". i personally love them and think they're absolutely worth checking out!
She also posted "hey there" which is an interlude from the album on her channel. it has a simple music video too! Edit: She also was featured on a live rendition of "Soft Spine" by Spirit Box. Definitely one of my favorite things about this era as a fan of both

Her pauses are needed, My favorite part has to be right when she tells us she can see right through You “Traitors all around” The song kinda sounds like a call out, Like if some of the people who bothered her for years was written for this, Her lyrics get so personal. and I LOVE IT! Especially the crows here who are from Africa, Known to be in crowds over corpses mostly. And Kinda remind mes also of Itachi from Naruto so I’m not sure. Its definitely darker then usual but the style OH MAN I love her. Also edit: SO GLAD You’re ok! We Poppyseeds stick together always!
Cece! Glad you're better and back reacting to Poppy! An interesting side project she did: a variety show (!) on Veeps called Improbably Poppy! There are currently 4 episodes up out of I think 6. The first is free, then it's $5.99/mo for the rest (which you can cancel after watching hers of course). I loved episode 1!! Really trippy 😅
This is pure speculation, but I struggle to believe that anyone would get out of a deal with Sumerian, into a deal with Island Records (or whatever), then back to Sumerian without there being collateral, costs or conditions. I think Zig was partial collateral- I love the album to bits, but the licensing looks really messy where Sumerian picked it up, and it looked like the aspiration to make videos got cut off halfway through (the video for Zig is incomplete for example). Also, the songs are Island copyright licensed via Sumerian- that must have been complicated to agree. On the Zig tour, Flicker and 1s + 0s only got performed once (I will always be grateful that I was there to see them!)- apart from that, only the single releases got performed (which all sounds a bit contractual). I could believe that either Zag was where the commercial collateral landed hardest, or Poppy had just moved on and got the Jordan Fish opportunity (which wouldn't have been possible before). I must admit, Poppy and Ali Payami locked in a room and left to brew was an unexpectedly magical combination. I associate Jordan Fish with a slightly over-slick production workflow, but, it's nice to see Poppy dropping some spanners in it (and it looks like there is more sabotage coming if the interlude released is anything to go by!). Suspect Zag was a "nearly" as Poppy was teasing lyrics and even that acoustic fragment of negative milk. The songs leaked seem finished and I don't recall anyone being outraged that they had escaped (could be wrong though- it could have been a commercial spoiler, or a planned oppsie). I did kind of suspect there wouldn't be a Zag, as it was a bit obvious, but I'm just hoping that whatever happened behind the scenes hasn't been too stressful- ah hell, chances are it was a nightmare.

I think Poppy Zagged away from doing Zag because the Jordan Fish opportunity arose. Anyway, doing Zag after Zig would have been way too predictable!
