@JohnSparkmanandBlackTopHerd Downeaster Alexa is no Cold Spring Harbor Part II. It's very latter day Billy. Btw, don't be fooled by the cover. The production is 80s or 90s. Had it been recorded in early-mid 70s, I might have given it a listen. Billy Joel's first 4 albums before The Stranger is it for me.

Had never heard this song previously so had no idea what to expect but knew that whatever happened Tommy would make it memorable and, as usual. he did just that. Tommy is the master at taking a song and putting his own twist on it and it never fails. Friday is the best day of the week as I always know it will be special and long may it continue.

Those deeper tones are really beautiful, and a great contrast to the high notes (which are great too, but in another way). Cannot help it, but i am listening again and again, and just want more.

Of ALL of Billy Joel's rather exhaustive catalog of classic songs to pick through, this would NOT have been one of the songs I would have thought Tommy would have chosen to cover. Having heard it, now it's honestly an INSPIRED choice. This is undeniably a thoroughly enjoyable cover of a great ballad turned into a fun metal tune. I wonder what Mr. Joel would think of this new 'Tommyfied' version of his song. I rather enjoy it. I wonder if Tommy is going to 'Johanssonize' any more of Billy Joel's work? Great surprise to wake up to on a Fri-YAY!!!!

One of the things that makes Billy Joel stand out is how well written his songs are, both in terms of the music and the lyrics.
And keep it mind: he made mainstream pop/rock music which was intended to be played on the radio.
You don't see that with contemporary pop music anymore.
I'm a huge fan of Tommy, Majestica, Sabaton... Tommy is one of the most talented all-around musicians I've ever seen, metal or otherwise... I've heard all his covers, and this is my current favourite... Tommy's voice is exceptional, and whatever vocal plate he's using on this song is... majestical... Good show, mate...!! 🤘🤘

Yesterday, after the morning shift and my jog, I started the weekend with Tommy. I didn't know the song yet, but it's a beautiful melody. The video is really well done too, especially the guitar solo. It's a wonderful insight into the life of the fishermen. It also shows that it is becoming more and more difficult to survive as a small fisherman and that in the future there will probably only be the big fishing companies.

I've been dedicated to heavy music since the early 90s but there is something about Billy Joel's voice and music that resonates with me. Perhaps it's because "Glass Houses" became one of the most influential albums of my childhood when he released it in 1980. Regardless, Joel + Tommy J = superb!

Nice one. I always loved sailing songs and songs about ships at sea, even Gilligan's Island a corny but seaworthy song. My favorite is "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot. All those sailing and ship at sea songs tell a story that no other song can.
