- I own a 96 double cab 4 x 4 Toyota Tundra, I had to do some investigation on my slip yoke from various RUclips videos and realized that the clunking sound from a stop an go situation was due to lack of grease in the slip yoke. I hope this specifically helps out anybody with the same kind of truck I have, I know it's not the same grease that most guys recomnend ( Motorcraft XG - 8) but i figured that this is heavy duty Grease it'll handle a slip yoke.
Is this the yoke that is bolted to the rear end?
Yes.... bolts right up to the rear diff, and slides into the secondary 2 piece driveshaft.
Did it stop the thump?
It did, the clunking stopped.... rule of thumb is (as I have made a habit of it) every time you do an oil change, grease the rear yoke that's what I've been informed VIA TOYOTA.... the grease burns up an the tolerance changes an causes the clunking noise you hear at stop and accelerating from a stop....
Did it work?
Yes, I've been having really good results. Now whether it's better or worse from other products IDK for sure, but my results seems that I'm not having to get underneath it TOO FREQUENTLY.... I chose this because it was AG RATED for the HD farming equipment an figured had to be pretty durable grease, so I thought why the hell not, lol !!! Needless to say I'm pretty happy with the results, and it's not that expensive either.
sometimes when i take off i feel a clunk i guess that is what i can call it. 2007 5.7 tundra, you think is that?
Is this issue happening during coming to a stop an upon accelerating from a stop?
@rob 49erfan at stop not at acceleration, after like 5 to 10 seconds after the full stop.
@@elminime1 check the YOKE like I mentioned. When removing it make sure to mark it so you put it back EXACTLY how you removed it. If your u-joints are good and tight my guess would be exactly what I mentioned in the video.... Sorry, I'm not getting notifications on your guys' replies, IDK Y not.... this GREASE HAS helped CEASE THIS ISSUE, gottin down to doing it every 2 oil changes. This issue is pretty common w trucks like mine (not sure what you have) but I've also heard FORDS an other trucks have this issue too.
My 07 tundra 4.7L has a slight bump instantly when i left off the brakes from a complete stop and I’m thinking it’s the slip yoke. I also have a very mild vibration between 50-70 mph, i thought it was my cheap tires but since it’s doesn’t happen every time im thinking it’s related to the slip yoke being dry. Going to try to grease it first
