Thank you very much, Myk! I love packing cubes. They don't offer much compression, but lots of organization. Also you can just take them out in the hotel and use the backpack for daytrips for instance.
I would not go for packing cubes tho bcoz it can be quite stiff & you can't maximize the space. I like DIY so I create small bags from used or torn shopping bag (canvas/woven fibre) & used it to separate my stuff.

@@Youknowthebo Hi, I'm looking for a backpack that can carry an A3 size display book, but I'm having difficulty finding one. I'm also a smaller person, but I don't mind a larger bag as long as I can fit A3 size pads and books. I prefer to carry them in a bag rather than in my hands. Do you have any suggestions? I'm looking to replace my current backpack, which does fit A3 books. I use it for college. If I can use the same backpack for short trips that would be great
even with the 18L bag everything fits in perfectly even with the 35L bag everything fits in perfectly even with the 70L bag everything fits in perfectly
It also depends on the shape of the items you're trying to fit. If the items are rigid like a laptop or books, it's going to be difficult. However, clothes can be folded and shaped according to the space you have left so that you can fit everything.
Great video! :) One thing I will add to this video next time is how a bag size looks on your back. You talked about how a 35L might be better as a daypack for a taller person than on a shorter person because how large it is. I think one of the problems when it comes searching a bag size is also how does it fit on your back depending on your height.
Thank you very much Kenny! That's a valid point. I guess my point only refers to looks rather than fit. I usually look like a giant walking turtle if I carry a 35L bag haha
For a weekend trip, you would take all of the stuff you take on a daily basis in addition to the clothes. The second scenario would have been much more helpful stuffing all of the combined stuff into a bag. (hence the need for a bigger bag. Also the different openings do different things. The clam-shell allows full access to all your stuff, but doesn't pack as well as a stuff drawstring type pack. The worst opening is the 50% zipper opening because you can't access your stuff and you can't access everything. It would be good to see a full comparison. Very helpful though for buying things online.
I own MILTEC tactical Backpack - size 36 liters for about 4 years. Used almost daily with small signs of wear. What I can confirm is that my next backpack will be also a MILTEC Tactical .
I bought one of these after my Nomatic backpack (with expandable compartment) got stolen. What I did not like about my Nomatic backpack was the appearance, the material (not truly water proof esp the small easy access compartment), the deformed shape after 6 months use and the service (keep packing wrong accessories I purchase). However, I do really like the way things are compartmentalised (very well thought out and convenient). I got a modular backpack with sports accessory. It has only been 24 hours so I will talk about the things I missed from the Nomatic backpack and what I like about it. I really like the material, the appearance of it. In fact I carry quite heavy gears and I find the so called' ugly ' shoulder straps very comfortable. The exterior design is very futuristic and tech - go with people who likes tech wear) However I missed a top, front easy excess pocket for gums, keys, USB, coins (The small pouch that came with the sport pouch is not easy access). As a result, I purchased another pouch for 45 dollars that allow me to have easy access. I also immediately noticed that there isn't a 'sleeve' or space that allow the handle of wheeled luggage to go through, for the bag to sit on a luggage. Haven't actually place the backpack in use in my daily work life. Will see.
Excellent video which has been really helpful. I am looking up different bag sizes for a bike packing trip and am totally lost when things are referred to litres, so thank you for putting this video together!
Very useful video, not just to show how much certain litre bags can hold but also to show that the design of the bag is really important. A few tips that I find useful in maximising space: - if a pack has good organisation and layout, it can carry A LOT more than it looks. For example the 5.11 LV18 (which I bought recently) appears to be quite small at first but it can handle a lot - used it on a weekend trip to Germany recently and it was perfect. And I could still fit a laptop in! - for clothes, the "army roll" method really helps with thinner/smaller items e.g. boxers, t-shirts, long sleeved tops; but for bulkier items like jeans it's best to pack them flat - the design of any external water bottle pouches is important. On some bags, they interfere with internal space if you use too large a bottle. - you can buy vacuum bags as an alternative to packing cubes: you just fill the bag, then pump out the air and it compresses down so so much. Probably more useful for suitcases though. - a pack that has external straps or loops/molle for lashings can come in handy. So if you have a bulky item, e.g. jacket, tripod etc you can just have it located externally on the bag. Also, general molle/loops etc on the outside can be used to attach items such as a rain cover.
Ah man. I love backpacks and bags for some reason; this video is just so satisfying for me to watch. I am looking to get an Osprey Bigkit soon, as I am a rock climber and I love having OTT stuff :)
Super useful I must say. When ai first saw the litre label of 18L, I had no idea that it could be smaller than I expected. I ordered another 32L with external compartments. Hope it fits my needs. Good job!!
Thank you very much! The volume measurements can be quite misleading unfortunately. Depending on the style, materials etc. the claimed volume can be totally of unfortunately.
Great approach Bo! Couldn't agree more on the Bullet. Its great as a daypack. My 13 inch laptop fits in there without a problem + a bunch of other stuff!
I agree wholeheartedly with your unscientific scientific-type approach to this topic. The only nitpick is with the clothes, as there will be differing climates that will affect the size and type of garments packed for a trip. Just my two cents...
Hey mate! Thanks for watching the video. You are totally correct. Can't argue with that, but obviously I can't cover all the scenarios. I still hope this video can help a little bit when deciding on a volume size ;-)
3:51- The bags that open fully are the worst for daily use because there is a huge risk of things falling out if we open it in a hurry. Bags that have zipper upto the mid section of the bag are a much better option.

As usual, very helpful insights from you Bo about these packs. I’m actually now drawn to the Black Ember Citadel Minimal due to its WP construction and sleek design. Looking forward for a more in-depth review of that pack 🙋♂️
+Kristian Ron Lalic thank you very much, Kristian. The citadel is awesome, but the review is postponed unfortunately. I have a pre production unit and the laptop compartment is too tight. So I'm waiting for the final unit to do my final review on it. But let me know if you have any questions beforehand
@@Youknowthebo Yes, it is! Or something like it... Anyway, Thanks for the great content!
Another fantastic video, Bo! I own a GORUCK 15L Bullet, 34L GR2, and 20L Rucker. It's funny that even though the Bullet is billed as a daypack, I like the Rucker (when I'm not using it for training, of course) as my occasional daypack since its dimensions can accommodate more ordinary sized objects. I find that even though the GR1 is described as an EDC bag, I carry enough that the 34L GR2 is perfect. The 40L GR2 would be easier for packing more stuff during travel scenarios, but would likely not fit under as many airline seats.
Great video. I will recommend this to people before a trip. It’s funny how the subtle specifics of a bag will make a difference, though: I love the GoRuck 10L Bullet Ruck for everyday use, but I tried their 15L Echo and it almost seemed to hold less, due to shape and the relative flexibility of the sides and back when stuffing in those last few items. (On the other hand, those qualities would make it better than the Bullet if you were carrying something super heavy.)
Thanks, James! I totally agree with you: the different shapes and materials can change the volume quite a bit. Unfortunately, the volume measurement usually is the only number that you get from companies and that gives a very rough idea of what you could fit. Therefore: THis video is definitely not a scientific measurement haha. But I hope it will help some people nevertheless ;-) Weniger anzeigen

Discentify it’s enough space if you wash your cloth on the way! I’ve packed so far I can remember 6 T-Shirts, 6 pairs of underwear, 4 pairs of socks, FlipFlops, a micro fibre towel, my LumixG6 Camera with three lenses, charger, Kindle, inflatable neck pillow, one lightweight hoodie, two pairs of shorts, two swim shorts, UV-Swim-Shirt and an iPad, Headphones etc. I used packing cubes to organise all this stuff of course 😉 there was even space for a small foldable day backpack. Hope that is helpful for you.
Thanks for the helpful video! I'm still figuring out how to pack for a 4 night trip away, as I'm only allow 1 piece of carry on and 1 personal item lol
+Oliver Herz thanks, Oliver. I guess when you're taller you have more options with bag sizes. For instance, when I carry a 30l bag I usually look like a giant turtle 😂
Hi, i have a question and hopefully I get an answer. Which bag size do I need for Sixth form? You know I need to fit my books, folder etc... And if you can give me the best height to. Thank you.
Hi. It's been a long time since I have been to school. 20 years to be exact 😂 that is why I have no clue about what you actually need to pack and how big the bag needs to be. I would assume with bigger folders that are really wide a bag of at least 20L is needed. But that's just speculation. I am in Germany so our paper and book sizes are different than in the US for instance. But I think you would need a 22L bag that can fit a 15"laptop because I assume that the footprint of a laptop should have a similar size like a folder
Bo Ismono, thank you sooo much for helping me. Ohh 20 years is long enough for anyone to forget 😂. I just looked up 22L bags and I found one that can fit 15” laptop, however my main concerned is the depth of the bag. The bag I found has depth of 14cm, do you think this is enough? Again thank you very much!
I understand you were filling up the bag to check capacity. The modular pouch packing system is not always suitable. Scenario - my bag is under my desk in an open office setup, I don’t want to open up my bag and show all the contents to everyone around me, rather have organizational compartments in the bag which enables me to pull out what I need quickly in one go. Volume is not the only measure. Incase icon being compact can fit in a lot without packing cubes or pouches. Would like to know your thoughts on the same.
Thanks for the comment, Chinmay. I'm with you on the "not showing everything" part, but to me pouches is the way to go as my stuff usually has different shapes that usually do not fit into those compartments of the bag or just are way too small and get lost quickliy (see my extended edc video). Furthermore I change bags quite often, just switching the pouches around instead of reorganizing the bags everytime helps alot. But thet is of course a scenario that is very specific to me. And I agree with you on the different types of measurements. as you have seen, the dayfarer fits stuff better than the citadel. Unfortunately, the volume measurement usually is the only number that you get from companies and that gives a very rough idea of what you could fit. Therefore: THis video is definitely not a scientific measurement haha. But I hope it will help some people nevertheless ;-)
Bo Ismono I agree on everything you said. For larger audience or atleast me, when buying an expensive bag - it might be the only bag which I will be using. And that’s why my scenario is very different for bag features and purchase decision.
Great vid. Been looking for reviews or anything at all on the GORUCK Bullet. Currently use the Yeti Tocayo For school but def trying to slim down my load out to just an iPad setup with accessories. Thanks!
Danke für den Beitrag, bestätigt mich darin das für mich im Alltag 21L in einem Messengerbag ausreichen und für die Reise der Osprey Farpoint mit 40L ausreichen.
Thank you very much, Lupe. Unfortunately the Citadel review has to wait a little bit. There is a small issue on my pre production unit, therefore I will wait for the retail unit and then do a proper review.
How important is the length of the backpack? At 5'6" with a short torso - 17" - anything longer hits in the wrong place (especially if there are no load lifters) so it seems liters become secondary to length?
I started watching this channel from this video. First seconds of the video: oh, wow, cool Poker keyboard. Then, oh, Sas survival book, then... I just watched 12 more videos from this author, lol. But its so damn sad! how 35L backpack fails. It is probably because of it's form. If backpack is soft its capacity is more stretchy. If backpack hard and square shaped, then even with 35L capacity it can not fit all the boxes/organizers :(((
I get what you're saying with bigger volume not meaning you can put more stuff in. I have an old 28 liters laptop bag which I'm thinking about putting /giving away once I get a new bag. I mainly used it for carrying my laptop since it's quite weather resistant. I can't use it for traveling as its design is not very space-efficient.
Is it alright if I'm going to use my daily urban 30 liter Backpack/Rucksack, for my First Bag on Cabin. Bag in backpack. My rucksack messurements are 45x30x20. Is only 5cm Longer(larger) than the exact measurements of the WizzAir policy. Is that alright for the cabin in on the person first baggage.?? Thanks
Hey Adrian. If the bag is larger than the adviced measurements it is definitely a gamble. It really depends on the look of the bag and the crew. Most of the time the airline's staff won't measure the bag, but if it looks suspiciously big then they might ask you to measure it. Furthermore, if they have a good day and you are friendly, they might just let you pass. Unfortunately, there is no sure way to tell, so if you want to be 100% sure better go with a slightly smaller bag

Finally I got my bag size it's 22lit ...... Thanks brother 😀😀.... By the way good colour gradient 👍👍
Very true! Thanks again for watching my videos! Cheers, mate!
Great 👍🏽 video. Your vids help me decide on the right bag for everyday carry and travel.
Thank you very much, William! And thanks for watching my videos!
Thanks a million! I was planning to buy a 5.11 backpack and thinking of what exact size I would need.
You're very welcome. Thanks for watching my video
This video was very insightfl. thanks for sharing it.
Great vid. Been looking for reviews or anything at all on the GORUCK Bullet. Currently use the Yeti Tocayo For school but def trying to slim down my load out to just an iPad setup with accessories. Thanks!
Thank you very much, Matthew
Very good knowledge giving by you brother. Thank you
I loved everything about this video.
Thank you very much, Rene!
So I know this is an old video now, but you are awesome! It is just what I needed =)
Thank you very much, Sara! I hope you will enjoy my newer videos as well ;-)
Great video and very helpful. I am interested in the Blackember Citadel bag and can't wait for your review of it. Thanks!
Thank you very much, Lupe. Unfortunately the Citadel review has to wait a little bit. There is a small issue on my pre production unit, therefore I will wait for the retail unit and then do a proper review.
Well done and very helpful Bo!
Thank you very much, Vaibhav ;-)
Yes thank you for an amazing video. I need this cause I wasn’t sure if I need a 25L or 32L
Happy to hear that this was helpful. Thanks for watching 😉 ✌️
This is one of your best videos
+Gerald Evans thank you very much, Gerald 😊
Amazing video, as always. So helpful!
+Nothing thank you very much 😉 ✌️
How important is the length of the backpack? At 5'6" with a short torso - 17" - anything longer hits in the wrong place (especially if there are no load lifters) so it seems liters become secondary to length?
Thanks for the video Bo!
Thanks for watching 😉 ✌️
Put the 18l backpack in the 35l and BOOM! Easyly fits 53l!
If backpack hard and square shaped, then even with 35L capacity it can not fit all the boxes/organizers :(((
Awesome Video!
What's the brand of the orange pouch?
Thanks
Thanks. It's the foulden pouch from Trakke. You can see it in this video ruclips.net/video/l29KJ1HDhL0/видео.html
Great idea and great video Bo! Thanks
Thank you very much, Renato!
Thx Bo. Nice video. Keep it going.
+Bartlomiej Siuda thanks, Bartolomiej 😉✌️
I get what you're saying with bigger volume not meaning you can put more stuff in. I have an old 28 liters laptop bag which I'm thinking about putting /giving away once I get a new bag. I mainly used it for carrying my laptop since it's quite weather resistant. I can't use it for traveling as its design is not very space-efficient.
I like your zig zag pouch and the yellow item for cables.
Man I need a video of your smaller bags you use ..the smaller compartment bags for your smaller stuff. I need those

Great video Bo.Just wondering what shoe model that you showed in the video?
+Zouk Sha'arin thanks. Those are the Adidas Flux in Grey. I got them in Jakarta a couple of years ago
Oh man thank you so much you are literally best thanks for this
Do you know if the $10 3gal Ikea bags will fit an A2 sheet of paper?
Useful video. Perhaps might consider a Goruck Bullet. Excuse me the offtopic, but, which keyboard were you using? It looks really cool.
Thanks! That is the Vortex Poker3 mechanical keyboard with custom editing keycaps.
Great video! Your rolling skills are on point! What packing cube did you use for your clothes? And what pouch did you use for your charger and mouse?
Thank you very much. You can see most of the pouches that I use in this video ruclips.net/video/1lOo5MDrRFY/видео.html ;-)
Wow, Thank You. You solved my problem.
Excellent video! Thank you for making it 🤙
