What an absolute masterpiece by Liszt! He dives into such dark, fiery themes. Motifs that give you chills. A mixture of beauty and rage building from beneath. What an incredible composer. Liszt never gets enough credit these days. People always talk about him as a showman and 'loud' composer, but they never actually sit down and listen to the pieces he wrote. The B minor sonata is another timeless masterpiece, but there are still some people who dismiss it, much like how Brahms and other contemporaries of Liszt dismissed it back in his day. Liszt is a revolutionary for music. He's on the same level as Chopin or Beethoven or any other great composer, without a doubt. And possibly the greatest pianist in history!
I remembered that I didn't take much notice of the b minor sonata, but really after listening to it this very same day just now (the whole thing for once!) Played by Zimerman I realised what a gem I had overlooked. Well what a final day for 2020
@IlCOLElI Actually some of the other transcendental etudes are probably harder. I would place this one in the same camp with 2,7,8 etc. Not nearly on the same level with 4,5,12 etc. Also I don't even think some of the pieces of hamelin are even playable for anyone except him, and alkan's difficulty seems overated. I bet people that can handle Brahm's paganini variations, hamerklavier, and pieces like that can play most if not all alkan.
@Dragon Soundworlds I performed this piece at the age of 14, (when I wrote this comment😂)I don’t have any technical problems with that, I just don’t find the coda interesting. BUT now I love it
One of the best, if not THE best performance ever recorded. Ovchinnikov really nailed these etudes.
too fast ;-;
@@LightLucky it's meant to be like this
But I think Seong-Jin Cho did best (mostly the stretta) other notable ones are Ashkenazy, Yundi Li, Mao Fujita?

Very well said !
Totally agree. Liszt is very underrated as a composer.

This is definitely the best playing of this Etude I've ever heard. Sharp. It's Agitato is spot on. Best recording of it.
I feel little nostalgic cause whenever i go to piano academy, a beautiful lady was always playing it.
What happened to her? You know anything?
처음에 오른손 왼손 교차하는 부분서부터 부드러운 느낌이 들었어요! 날렵하면서도 부드러운 연주 잘 들었습니다!
This is the best performance in this song
wow... the most transcendental song i have ever seen -0-
The coda is so similar to Chopin's Ballade N 4
After decades of practice, I could finally play up to 0:01
Davis Robinson 😂👍
i see what you did there
Best transcendantal liszt interprétation

You underestimate alkan his etudes are crazy.
#2 is a devil but thankfully short, and tons of fun to play
Just hate the crazy 8octaves in the last page

@IlCOLElI Shame that they are not well known.
Cziffra?
I prefer Cziffra's interpretation
The closest I've come to hearing how this piece sounds in my mind.
