  • This is a quick tutorial on finding and accessing the flasher.

Very helpful. Thanks! I only had to get the first part off but knowing how the relay was attached was the greatest help to work from there. However, seems the relay isn't why my directional and hazards aren't working...back to more videos.

In my case, both the left and right turn signals may come on or not, if they come on, they might blink once or six times and then shut off.
Being common to both sides, I figured it was before the turn signal selector.
The service manual wasn't a great deal of help, surprise!
Good old RUclips to the rescue.
The day is wet, so I will squeeze the Kia into the garage enough to get in there without getting wet. I'm glad I saw how it's attached. Depending on the year it could be done differently and in a different position. Mine is the 2006 Sportage.
Time to give it a shot and I will check back after.
    Results, it was the relay.
@BirdBoss there is a flasher hazard turn signal relay that controls the flashing. It up under the dash on the right passenger side of the steering column. It snaps into a base that the wiring connector mates to.
They are on a slide on, slide off type metal tab on the car. Not super easy to get to, but not bad.
I opened the relay and it's a simple oscillator type circuit, a chip, resistor and a capacitor. I tried cleaning the relay contact, but it didn't help. The capacitors dry out our change value over time. I suspect it's why they go bad.
I bought one from advanced Auto. It fits the base, three pins and had a place to slide into the metal tab, but didn't work. They did take it back. I went to AutoZone and got basically the same one and even brand I believe and it worked perfectly. It doesn't snap into the base like the OEM relay did, but it does have the slide on part to mount on the metal tab.
I did a video on it. After the fact.
