YES! Now this is what im talkin bout! Wichita Transit drove 1980 RTS IIs with this engine for 24 years! We never got the other engines that most of the RTS got at a later date. I LOVED driving these bad boys!

Reminds me of my RTSes i grew up at Lansing, Michigan CATA when they ran their 1979s (300-316 series) for near 27 years. Good Buses.

I just love how the old RTS's sing with the 8V71/Allison 3-speeders! I remember when SCE&G (South Carolina Electric and Gas) in Columbia, SC used to have these buses with those engines. Sadly, I never actually got to ride one due to the fact that almost everyone in my family had a car, so there was no need for us to take the bus.

Route 20 New Braunfels was created in August 2003 after the CSP Change and it replaced route 512 which didnt go downtown.

Houston Metro Had These Same Modals In The 80's With The Setrak (I Think) Air Condition Units On The Roof. Love Those Slant Backs. Personally To Me...The Best Bus Ever. Period. I Pray That Millennium Revive The RTS. It's The "Only" Piece Of True Bus History We Have.

I miss these buses we had until the early 2000s here in San Antonio. I HATE the newer buses.

@MAR1NAB5180 Yeah...unfortunately, the RTS's and Gilligs are all retired and are no longer in service. In fact, SCE&G no longer runs bus service. As of 2002, the transit system is now operated by the Central Midlands Regional Transportation Authority (CMRTA). I was surprised myself when I went back there to visit and all I saw were crappy Bluebirds.

@guildrich I went in 2004 to Columbia, SC to try and record those RTS buses and the Gillig Phantoms that looked like they were from the early 80's but when i got there all i saw were Blue Birds so i decided to go up to Charlotte NC instead.

@MetroLinerXLZ I think you 're right because the whole trip he was going slow.

@baul104 No because the buses that i wanted to record were retired before i had a chance to get to them the Flyer D901A's and the TMC RTS 08's.

Sounds like this driver was ahead of schedule, or did the driver put the foot down later in the ride?
