- Despite being the most corrupt state in the EU, Bulgaria has made some significant improvements in the past few years. After the fall of socialism, Sofia was decaying for over 2 decades. This video does not claim that the improvements are everywhere. Also, I do not support the ruling party. The city still has problems with urban planning, the quality of roadworks and reconstructions, healthcare, air pollution, traffic and corruption.

it looks like those west propaganda movies where always when it show scene from east Europe is with gray filter added and weather is shit but when they want to show a nice place its sunny and the grass is greener :D that was like 30 years ago but the old trick is still in work in this video.
Rome wasn't built in a day, it will take some time. Huge improvements were made during the last decade, no doubt about it.
The buildings are nice and all but how did the life of an average bulgarian citizen change before and after joining EU?

Определено не съм впечатлен. Построили са молове, супермаркети и офис сгради (сега пустеещи), санирали са безобразно много исторически сгради, като са разрушили оригиналната архитектура и са направили булеварди и кръстовища, за които всички знаем, че е платено в пъти повече отколкото реално струват. Всичко това в София, а в останалата част от страната е като след бомбандировки. Определено видеото изглежда като доста наивна пропаганда.
Съгласен съм че отношението към историческата архитектура е крайно обидно и дори престъпно, както и че липсва адекватна велоинсфраструктура и ремонтите са изключително некачествени, но поне макар и некачествени виждам ремонти. Метрото също е голямо постижение, може би най-чистото но и най-радкото метро което съм виждал. Аз съм от ДБ и изобщо не симпатизирам на ГЕРБ, този клип просто сравнява наличните данни от Google Street View.
Голямо Браво за труда който си вложил в клипчето, много е добро! Единственото което може би можеше да избегнеш е, че на част от снимките най-голямата разлика е, че на старата е облачно а на новата слънчево, иначе е супер, поздравления!
Благодаря! Исках да покажа и такива кадри за да може да се добие представа за прогреса на града като цяло.

It's a bit sad how many costly infrastructure projects have left some places worse-off than they were (Grafa and Dondukov for one).
Can't argue with some of the better projects such as the multiple roundabouts added to key intersections but those seem to mostly move the traffic to the next crossing that isn't a roundabout.
There has been little to no effort in actually addressing things such as improvement and optimization of public transportation (some lines were just depricated in favor of the metro system with little thought).
It just feels like many things both infrastructure-wise and public-transportation-wise are just rehashing existing plans from the 60s without addressing modern concerns.
Another really sad loss is that most old pre-communist era buildings are just left to rot and collapse - and this addresses another comment here on how Sofia is just ugly - yeah. It really didn't used to be but more and more the beautiful historic buildings that other older towns do everything in their power to preserve - just end up being torn down in favor of some ugly glass monstrosity.
Now do one showing the housing prices :P

@@honeyheart8215 xD its true lol, Sofia isn't really that good looking because of the cars & pollution. Idk why you get mad when cities like Plovdiv or Varna or even Burgas are looking cleaner and more organised.

То е ясно като бял ден, за последните 10 години София се превърна от забутано балканско село в модерен, развит и динамичен град, лидер на Балканите! След още 10 години със същите темпове ще гоним и първите места в Централна и Източна Европа. И така е на много други места в цяла България. Дай Боже все така!
София изостава от почти всички модерни практики за големия град. Несинхронизизиран градски транспорт с големи интервали, липса на пешеходни и велоалеи алеи за сметка на некачествено поставен асфалт. Закриват се линии от наземния градски транспорт за сметка на колите. Синя зона не работи, ако нямаш Български тел. номер. Няма построени общински паркинги в кварталите, постоянен недостиг на места в ясли и детски градини, липса на дигитализация в общината - което значи бавна администрация и корупция. Сравнението с Централна Европа е повече от нелепо. Направете сравнение м/у София и Варшава. И вижте къде са били поляците като стандарт на живот преди 30 години и къде са сега. Румъния има 25% по-висок стандарт на живот(30,000$ с/у 23,740$ у нас), с по-малко социално неравенство и много по-свободни медии. Изоставаме с увеличаващата се разлика, а не обратното.

Да критикува с примери и практики от по-напреднали държави? Или те плаши тая мисъл? България направи много малко от това, квото можеше предвид еврофинансиране, глобализация и достъп до технологии и ноу хау. Най-лесно то е да видиш GDP PPP от 1990 за нас, Полша, Румъния и Словакия и къде са тия държави сега, как изглеждат техните градове и каква е тенденцията за модерна градска среда. Тогава ще видиш трохи, работа на парче и изпуснат потенциал.

Sofia lacks in pedestrian sides, bike lines, effective and modern public transport and green spaces/clean air. Just compare the progress that was made in post communist states like Lithuania, Estonia, Slovakia and even Romania. Romania already has 20-25% higher standard of living than Bulgaria and was way poorer just 30 years ago. Not to mention rule of law, corruption and media freedom. To celebrate the little that was done w/o taking into account the lost potential, time and the collapse of democracy seems incomplete. Facts are facts when the full story is told and not taken out of the context.
@@PETrov_Yo Cars are an ineffective way of transportation in the city. Especially a highly densed/populated city like London. But of course, there should be a balance so that all participants have their needs covered. Been to London like 5 times. Yes, nothing is perfect, but comparing the infrastructure between Sofia and London is like day and night.
Sofia is one of the best cities in Europe in terms of green spaces and public transport lmao
@@MagmaskyBG Not true. Public transport has a decreasing number of people using it each year (in favour of cars) because its innefective, unintegrated and slow. As a result, you have the most cars per capita than any other EU capital which leads to parking in green spaces and hence less green spaces. You have to (still) perforate the ticket in order to use the tram, until y'day, you couldn't even buy a ticket with a card, there is no integrated system to track public transport in real time, close to no bus and bike lines. It's a complete disaster and way worse than any other EU capital apart from Bucharest maybe. However, Romania is already considerably richer than Bulgaria. With a GDP PPP of 30,000, it's on par with Portugal, Hungary, Latvia. Bulgaria for a comparison has a GDP PPP of just 24,000 and they comes with a higher income inequality, meaning Bulgaria is way poorer than Romania already. So, yeah, Sofia due to its highly incompetent, old-fashioned and corrupted Mayor, is lacking behind big time to other EU state capitals.
Lol you sound plainly ignorant. Sofia is one of the most greenest cities in the EU. We have several beautiful parks with gorgeous greenery and nature, there are enough pedestrian lines and sidewalks, and our metro system can’t even be compared to Bucharest’s crappy metro. Have you even been to the Sofia metro? It’s one of best in the EU. I agree the air quality isn’t good, but so is Bucharest’s. Bucharest is one of Europe’s most polluted cities. The standard of living in Sofia and Bucharest are similar, Sofia has it cheaper though and it’s better and safer. Romania still struggles with corruption big time, and people still suffer from it. It still suffers from poverty, and more than 30% of the population don’t have access to basic utility needs.

The EU has nothing common, it's just the progress of time. Yes, we get some money from the EU, but we also lose a lot, because we have to meet a bunch of eco standards and give up or postpone important energy projects like South Stream and BELENE NPP.
As a matter of fact, our country is in a very difficult situation, we are the poorest in the EU, but at the same time we are disappearing demographically with great speed. Do I need to add the crisis in culture and the education system? We are a country that exports above all cheap labor and prostitutes. The EU has its positive sides, but there are also many negative ones.

брат, БГ е в ЕС от 2007, що не покажеш снимки от 2006 и да кажем 2019-2022? 2012 сме били в ЕС вече 5 години.
Защото няма Street View от тогава? Има само от 2012 и 2019 на повечето места.

@@kosmicheskiprah I'm not attributing them to the EU . Investments went down after EU regulations. The EU is making the entire continent stagnate economically.

Подмятат ни няколко улици и мостове и казват, че сме били тръгнали на добре. Междувременно оставаме без работна ръка, защото всички отиват да робуват на запад.
@@lenzcliff6298 И не забравяй, че масово ни пласират тяхната стока чрез Лидл, Кауфланд и други вериги. Колкото и булеварда да ремонтират пак ще сме в пасив спрямо тях. Те извличат много повече от България отколкото влагат. А и си решават демографските проблеми за наша сметка. Нашите младежи им запълват техния трудов пазар докато тука липсват специалисти почти във всяка сфера.

Krum Cvetkov, you are not very smart person budd, are you. Bulgaria is not and has in fact never have been the most corrupt state in the EU. Right off the bat, Greece and Slovakia come to mind as more corrupt states. Now, what distinguishes Greece and Slovakia from Bulgaria is the fact that while their corruption is mostly indigenous, the corruption in Bulgaria is mostly not indigenous, it is external, that is, it has geopolitical roots. The corruption in Bulgaria flows straight from the Russian Federation which has geo-strategic goals in the region of Southeast Europe and uses Bulgaria as a major port for money laundering and political engineering. That is why even though the corruption in Bulgaria is not actually so prevalent and not very visible on the surface, its effect is big and it is resilient and difficult to uproot. The simplistic talking point that Bulgaria is somehow the most corrupt state is absolute nonsense and is not backed up by any EU statistics.
