No disagreements, but the one MX track I miss most is Kenworthy's (Troy, OH). Binghamton certainly went through some changes until its last race held there in 2006. Troy had the best Supercross-style resemblance of all time in my book. Personally, I liked the 4-strokes, and the only 4-strokes that were heard of at this time was the YZ400s that Doug Henry and Jimmy Button were riding in the premier class.
@@MathewVsSportsMediaandGames what happened to Kenworthy? Like with Broome in 05/06 the place was packed with people so it wasn't a attendance issue...was replaced with that shitty freestone co. Track...unadilla was 1 hr away but moved to SC was going this weekend but couldn't get off work so I'm bummed for this season
@@SJKLR99 That bites about not getting to go to Unadilla. What happened to Kenworthy's? In 2003, the Kenworthy's race was supposed to be after the Red Bud race, but when the original date of the race came, the track was completely flooded due to rainy weather and rescheduled for the last race of the year in September. It seemed that the only way you could navigate the course was if you had any watercraft or something. Then, when the rescheduled date came along, the track was flooded AGAIN and the AMA was forced to cancel the Troy race. Honestly, that came as a surprise to me because Troy is usually one of T-H-E HOTTEST races of the season. I still remember the 2001 race where Carmichael crapped his pants after winning the first 250cc moto and skipping his winner interview. 2004 would mark the last time that Kenworthy's would host a Motocross race, and then replaced by Thunder Valley actually for 2005. Bench racers like myself found out the cancellation of the '03 event due to a story on Motoworld. The one guy who wasn't happy about that was Ryan Hughes. Hughes wasn't happy about that because he was only 7 points behind his teammate Grant Langston after Steel City. Unfortunately, that was the closest Hughes ever got to winning a title.
No disagreements there, but Stewart was more dominant than Carmichael was in the 125cc class; unlike Stewart, Carmichael was beatable if he got a bad start -- Stewart was unbeatable, period... unless a mechanical came up.
How so? Mark Barnett put 3 titles in a row together from '80-'82; Ryan Villopoto did so from 2006-08. There have been a couple of two-time champs -- Steve Lamson and James Stewart -- except Lamson always seemed to ride the 125cc class in Motocross, and James Stewart moved up after his second title in 2004, and missing out on the '03 title.
@@MathewVsSportsMediaandGames of course it has happened, but it's not that common. Most guys are itching for the prestigious 250/450 class. How much of the decision do you think the rider makes? The race team most likely calls the shots with which class they ride in
@@harryscrotum007 You're right, it's not that common. I don't know about the teams calling the shots about what classes their riders race in at this time period. Mike Alessi rode the 250cc class for 2 years ('05 and '06) and then advanced to the 450cc class in MX in 2007. He also made his pro debut in 2004 on a CRF450R at 16 YOA, which was a bold move.
Man, I miss these two dudes during the races! Weege and Langston are awesome and in actuality probably better, but hearing Art and David just brings the memories flooding back for me.
I do, too. I grew up hearing Art Eckman and David Bailey through the years and I just loved Art's exaggeration and excitement in his voice. I also liked David Bailey's analyses because he knows what he's talking about. To this day, I really wish he was still color analyst with Jeff Emig; although, I have to admit that at first, I liked Jeff Emig from the beginning because he's a rider I remember watching growing up. I feel like David Bailey's analyses have grown on me through the years, too; I was happy to see him back as analyst for the 2005 and 2009 Nationals, but Weege and Langston are awesome -- I agree.
Same. Who'd have thought that Carmichael would end up with stats that only fledgling amateurs would kill to have? I certainly wouldn't have. I do think though that Ricky should've stayed in the 125cc class in 1999 SX, though you can't fault Ricky for staying on the 250cc after sweeping the 125cc East in 1998. When you think about it, Ricky's got 3 perfect seasons in MX, even back-to-back in 2004-2005, 10 straight MX titles (3 125cc, 7 250cc/450cc), 5 SX titles in 6 years, 150 combined AMA SX/MX wins (48 SX, 102 MX), the 2nd winningest 125cc rider w/ 26 wins, at least 7 wins in all 10 MX Championship seasons... The average person would be like... "How am I supposed to beat that today???" Today's talent pool is 10 times deeper, speeds have gone through the roof... it's hard to find someone after RC who can even come close to his stats.
