There are hotels that give two keys or you can pay extra to have a spare. I've been to those type of hotels. Because even Claire got in her room, even if she gave the key card to Phil.

This is the first thing I was wondering about. If wrong room, then the Key wouldn't have opened.
I worked at a hotel. Pretty common for people to misplace keys and ask for a new one at the front desk
