Bhanu koti bhaswaram, bhavabdhi tharakam param,
Neelakanda meepsidartha dayakam trilochanam,
Kalakala mambujaksha maksha soola maksharam,

I salute Kalabhairava, the lord of the city of Kasi,
Who shines like billions of suns,
Who helps us cross this miserable ocean of life,
Who is supreme and has a blue neck,
Who has three eyes and grants us our desires,
Who is the death to the God of death*,
Who has lotus flower like eyes,
Who has the undefeatable trident,
And who does not have decay.
* could also be translated as death to the time.
Soola tanga pasa danda pani madhi karanam,
Syama kaya madhi devamaksharam niramayam,
Bheema vikramam prabhum vichithra thandava priyam,

Who has a spear, a chord and a stick as weapons,
Who is black in colour and the primeval cause,
Who is deathless and the first God,
Who is free from decay and ill health,
Who is the Lord who is a great hero,
And who likes the special vigorous thandava*
*dance with male's vigorous movements. .
Bhukthi mukthi dayakam prasashtha charu vigraham,
Bhaktha vatsalam shivam* , samastha loka vigraham,
Vinikwanan manogna hema kinkini lasath kateem,

Neethi marga kovidham purathanam jagatpathim,

I salute Kalabhairava, the lord of the city of Kashi,
Who is the chief of the society of Bhoothas,
Who grants broad based fame,
Who is the lord who judges good and bad deeds,
Of those who live in Varanasi,
Who is an expert in the way of righteousness,
And who is eternally old and lord of the universe.
Kalabhairavashtakam patanthi yea manoharam,
Jnana mukthi sadhanam , vichithra punya vardhanam,
Soka moha dainya lopa kopa thapa nasanam,
Thea prayanthi Kalabhairavangri saniidhim druvam. 9
Meaning
Those who study these eight verses on Kalabhairava,
Which is the source of eternal knowledge,
Which increases the effect of righteous deeds,
And which destroys grief, passion, poverty, want and anger,
Would surely reach the holy presence of Kalabhairava.

Deva-Raaja-Sevyamaana-Paavana-Angghri-Pankajam
Vyaala-Yajnya-Suutram-Indu-Shekharam Krpaakaram
Naara-da-[A]di-Yogi-Vrnda-Vanditam Digambaram
Kaashikaa-Pura-Adhinaatha-Kaala-Bhairavam Bhaje
Translation:
I worship Kaala Bhairava, the ruler of the city of Kashi, whose lotus feet are revered by the gods, who wears a serpent as a sacred thread, who has a moon on his head, who is compassionate, who is worshipped by sages like Narada, and who is clothed in the directions (sky).

Bhaanu-Kotti-Bhaasvaram Bhavaabdhi-Taarakam Param
Niila-Kannttham-Iipsita-Artha-Daayakam Trilocanam
Kaala-Kaala-M-Ambuja-Akssam-Akssa-Shuulam-Akssaram

Translation:
I worship Kaala Bhairava, the ruler of the city of Kashi, who shines like a million suns, who helps cross the ocean of existence, who has a blue throat, who grants desired objects, who has three eyes, who is the death of death, who holds a lotus and trident, and who is imperishable.

Shuula-Ttangka-Paasha-Danda-Paannim-Aadi-Kaarannam
Shyaama-Kaaya-Maadhi-Deva-Makssaram Nir-Aamayam
Bhiimavikramam Prabhum Vicitra-Taannddava-Priyam

Translation:
I worship Kaala Bhairava, the ruler of the city of Kashi, who holds a trident, a noose, and a club in his hands, who is the prime cause, who has a dark body, who is the supreme deity, who is eternal and free from decay, who is terrifying in strength, and who loves the special Tandava dance.

Bhakta-Vatsalam Sthitam Samasta-Loka-Vigraham
Vinikvannan-Manojnya-Hema-Kinkinni-Lasat-Kattim

Translation:
I worship Kaala Bhairava, the ruler of the city of Kashi, who grants worldly pleasures and liberation, who has an auspicious and beautiful form, who is affectionate towards devotees, who pervades the entire universe, and whose waist is adorned with a jingling golden belt.

Dharma-Setu-Paalakam Tvadharma-Maarga-Naashakam
Karma-Paasha-Mocakam Su-Sharma-Daayakam Vibhum
Svarnna-Varnna-Shessa-Paasha-Shobhit-Angga-Mannddalam
Kaashikaa-Pura-Adhinaatha-Kaala-Bhairavam Bhaje
Translation:
I worship Kaala Bhairava, the ruler of the city of Kashi, who protects the bridge of righteousness, who destroys the path of unrighteousness, who frees from the bonds of karma, who grants great happiness, and whose body shines with a golden hue and is adorned with snakes.

Nitya-Madvitthihaaram-Ashritaamayaapaham
Gyaninaam-Agragannyam-Acchatthaara-Karkasham

Translation:
I worship Kaala Bhairava, the ruler of the city of Kashi, whose feet are adorned with shining gem-studded sandals, who removes ignorance and afflictions of those who seek refuge in him, who is foremost among the wise, and who destroys obstacles.

Translation:
I worship Kaala Bhairava, the ruler of the city of Kashi, whose loud laughter shatters the cosmos, whose mere glance destroys all sins, who is the lord of the terrible powers, who grants the eight siddhis, and who wears a garland of skulls.

Translation:
I worship Kaala Bhairava, the ruler of the city of Kashi, who is the leader of ghosts and spirits, who bestows wide fame, who purifies the sins of those living in Kashi, who is proficient in the path of ethics, who is the ancient being, and who is the lord of the universe.

Translation:
Those who read this beautiful Kaala Bhairava Ashtakam, which is the means to knowledge and liberation, which increases all kinds of merits, and which destroys grief, delusion, poverty, greed, anger, and suffering, will surely attain the presence of Kaala Bhairava.
Reciting the "Kaala Bhairava Ashtakam" with devotion and understanding can lead to a deep sense of peace and protection, and invoke the powerful blessings of Lord Bhairava.
