I've tried to intentionally fail the transaction by clicking on UPI and waiting for 3 minutes to mark it as a payment failure but it shows transaction pending .. but still it shows success / transaction completed in the end
and even redirected to success.php page

It depends which theme you use with VS Code. Fonts are changed according to theme you apply. To check themes in VS code => File > Preferences > Theme > Color Theme
