- Michie Tavern is located a ½ mile from Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello. They serve southern fare such as fried chicken, stewed tomatoes, black-eyed peas, and mashed potatoes with gravy. This is all you can eat, so you will not leave hungry. Come along with us as we go to one of our favorite restaurants in Virginia.

I’d often heard of this place but had never been until today when y’all took me there to celebrate my birthday. I was pleasantly surprised! The food was excellent, and the chicken was definitely some of the best I’ve ever eaten. Everything I ate was excellent. I highly recommend the place. My first visit but not my last, I hope. It’s easy to see why y’all loving going to Michie’s!

It's so good! Monticello is one of my favorite historical places to visit That would be a great day for you to go to both. Have you seen the re-enactor that does Thomas Jefferson? We have seen a couple. On our last visit the man who portrayed Jefferson was amazing.

Best restaurant in Virginia? Back when business had me going into Richmond several times a year, there was a restaurant on West Broad Street that I recall as "Demetris", or something like that. They were excellent! But, we're talking 20+ years ago... Only been to Charlottesville a few times. Home of the closest "never seen" TV station when I was trying to pick-up distant TV stations, WVIR-TV 29. I like the layout of this place. There's something to be said for preserving history, lest we forget. I like the combination of the fried chicken and pulled pork barbecue. Looks like David's mom got a great birthday treat! I'm not familiar with Demetris. I did see a Demi's Mediterranean Kitchen online. This is a great place and a favorite of ours but not sure if it's the very best. It has some of the best chicken you will eat. I agree that it is so important to preserve our history. You will not be disappointed here. Thanks for watching!

It is good chicken! I never fry chicken at home but I do like to get it when we go out to eat. I think you would love this place. There is a little store right beside the tavern that we went to as well. If you are into history Monticello (Thomas Jefferson's home) is only a half a mile away. The tavern is beautiful. It’s worth a visit but we weren’t impressed with the food. It was disappointing after reading all the promising reviews.

Great looking place inside.
This place is amazing! I highly recommend this for you and Marie to try. The fried chicken is some of the best chicken you will get anywhere. If you like apple cider you will love it here. So good!! The time frame is colonial here and they have done a great job with the building and grounds. Hope you get to go one day. Thanks for all your support! Have a great day!

Love eating here every chance we get thankfully they are not far from us ❤ they have great food, love their fried chicken 🍗 and sweet tea in the metal cups and their Bar, we enjoyed eating here for their Christmas dinner 🎄 it was beautifully decorated and wonderful musicians and it was just very enjoyable ❤. Good desserts too.

I went there last weekend and was sorely disappointed. It is billed as “southern fare” but tastes more like hospital food. In my opinion, the veggies tasted like they came out of a can and were cooked with little or no seasoning. The stewed tomatoes were atrocious, very sweet from sugar, I suppose. The chicken thigh had very little flavor. The pulled pork BBQ was more sauce than meat, but it did have some flavor. All this 💩 for $25 or so per person. KFC or Golden Corral are better.
