- Lorde dropped by KCRW’s basement studios in 2013 and we met - at the time - a shy 16-year-old hiding behind a gorgeous crown of tresses. The singer responsible for the mega-hit "Royals" was already a fully-formed vocalist and songwriter. This is an enchanting session and included the radio premiere of "Ribs," which would later be part of her full-length album. - Ariana Morgenstern

Began listening to her as a tween in middle school, but I stopped listening to her music when she released her second album (which I didn't connect to as I did to her first). Re-listening to her as a sophomore in college, I can see why I was so obsessed with her. She had a style like no other and her ingenuity (in spite of people's opinions of her) was indeniable. There was no one like her then and the same holds today.
This brings so many memories, she wasn’t internationally famous yet. Good old days of The Love Club EP
She moves like she's a musical director in a symphony orchestra! I love her style!

I don't know but her songs always bring me to another world,with so much familiarity yet feeling so new at the same time.
Someone in this comment section said they don't see the appeal. That's okay. It's not your thing. Thom Yorke got a lot of the same shit after Radioheads' Kid A. It's okay to not like Lorde, but I hear one of the best artists in years.
I used to answer pledge phones in that room where these performances used to happen. I think KCRW got her first performance in the states before he rode that rocket to superstardom. I think they stopped playing Royals before it reached peaked popularity. lol. Incredible talent. Glad to see someone deserving of the success achieve it.
