More like this please Collecting Cars team! Reminds me of Petrolicious of old...
I have a 1988 BMW M5 (US Market). It was always my dream car. Mine has 195,000 miles. Out of all the 7 cars that I own, it's the one that brings me the most smiles and grins when I drive it. I just love how unassuming, comfy, and good looking it is. While small by today's standards, the incredible 360 degree visibility and honest handling make it so much fun to drive. The experience is enhanced with the multiple sensory aspects of the E28 - from the sounds of the S38 motor to the old 80s BMW Crayola crayon interior leather smell. I've also owned a 1985 524td, same chassis but the slowest of the E28s. Amazing cars.
I owned a 1987 E reg 2.8
I loved it
What are the other six?
I want one of the E30 or E28 simply for the views...that greenhouse effect with tall glass, narrow pillars, such great cars.
I have owned and maintained my 88 635 Csi for over twenty years. I have enjoyed every mile of the 200k plus that I have logged. Fabulous machine. I sold it once, only to buy it back for the same reason...sellers remorse. I can relate to everything he said and felt regarding his love of his M5. I also have an 88 535is. It is difficult to say which is better. They both bring wide smiles each time I drive them. I believe they are the perfect examples of the high water mark for BMW.
No one gives a toss mate.
As an m5 enthusiast im so happy this man got his m5 back in his hands. I hope this car stays with this family forever more
Driven as intended. Love it!
That's just a great outcome. Without doubt the greatest BMW ever made and probably the 2nd best car ever made.
Wonderful story and a fabulous, discreet driver's car, unlike performance cars of today.
In similar vein have been trying to track down my old M635 CSi - '87 Dolphin grey Shadowline reg: D99 RGJ.
Told by the fellow that bought it that it was written off after being vandalised!
Best car I owned - never let me down and knew if I was undertaking a long journey when it really came alive.
Horrified to hear that an insurance company wrote it off! Tried tracing it via 'M Power' Club to no avail.
MOT expired in 2011. The last V5 was issued in early 2012. So it's not looking good I'm afraid.
seems like the car is currently SORN’ed. maybe its in a barn somewhere? theres still a chance you might be able to find it.
good luck finding it Richard. hopefully you’ll be able to find someone who knows a thing or two of its whereabouts.
EPIC! Awsome car and awesome history - long live this M5!
I am a convert to the philosophy of keeping the car you love and wearing the accrued mileage as a badge of honour. Currently just shy of the 300k miles mark and still enjoying each and every drive.
“It only let me down once “ when the engine completely failed ! A true enthusiast 😊
Haha I thought that.. when beemers go wrong, they go REALLY wrong.. in my experience lol
A great car and a great story. Good interview and recordings. Enjoy the sound from the car during the interview. Love this car program. Well done.
Great cars. My favourite M5.
Almost 20 years I've had my 635, and she's just getting on to 310'000 km by now.
And that's 14 years with the Bi-Turbo setup.
Got to love these old Beemers.
Great story.
Same thing with me and my ‘86 Scirocco that my parents bought for me new when I’d turned 16. I sold it after 120k miles when I went off to college, came across it as an adult with 300k miles, bought it, bare metal restoration and I never looked back. Not quite the caliber of a car as this.
Absolutely beautiful. Especially that interior.
In 2001 I bought a new VWJetta (2.0 litre petrol 5 speed manual) and had it for 17 years and put 450,00 kms on it. 4 years on with an e90 BMW, I kinda wish I had the Jetta back to restore it.
Looks like its done 50,000 mls. Beautiful car.
Great story with a great owner who used/using the car for what it was built to do ie eat up Motorway miles for fun 👍👍👍👏👏👏
I loved this video and what a Gentleman. Can totally identify with this feeling, having owned some special 80s BMWs - you fall in love with them. I may be reunited with some of them one day.....
Wholesome. Glad he got his second chance!
I would have been more shocked if it HADN'T been his daily driver, to have accrued that many miles!!
Fantastic story!
Brilliant stuff, very like like Afshin Behnia’s old videos on petrolicious. More!
BMW's of that era were absolutely amazing machines. I owned an alpina b10 3.5, what a car that was! 😎
What a great story.
My 528i has over 150k on the clock I intend to get as many miles under its belt as I can! This M5 is by far way cooler than a low mileage example 😎
Moral of this story is that, with a bit of research, anyone can find you online these. So, watch where you leave your personal information boys and girls!
And what does it do? Someone finds you do you get insulted by the fact that you exist? Or are you scared of the world and must be protected from it? It hardly means that your bank account or your family is now in danger. There is the same old option as ever been, if you don't like what comes from TV, turn it off.
Great story.
Awesome video, love it.👍
So touching and inspiring
Superb story 👌
Just a bad connection to the bulb, now fixed
There’s definitely way more stories related to that car that are worthy of a second video…
Probably not
This was a boring video
@@kells77 poor Brad ,did someone dedicate in your cornflakes again
Most definitely
Brilliant!!!!
My father had one new,
He still says it’s one of the best cars he’s ever owned to this day.
E28... ❤️
What a great story. I own a 2005 Jaguar XKR as my weekend toy/used sparingly/seasonal car, and I have the original owner's details in the original handbook. I sometimes wonder (especially after reading a few comments from yearning owners of past cars) if it would be appropriate to send him a good old fashioned letter along with photos of the car to let him know that it's still in good care, cherished etc, or would it just be a little creepy? (assuming he still even lives at the same address). Great video though all the same.
What a fantastic story, but surely 233k isn't that much really, I sold a car on at 214k and it's at 253k now, so plenty of life left in this gem yet
Chris Harris approves of this video. Ask him about his E28 M5.
Great story great car
My first BMW was an E28 2.8i
In 1999 I paid £600 for it.
I sold that car
Great guy
A lot of indicating going on in this video
brilliant
Sadly soon all combustion cars and trucks including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-(
In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025
on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Car washs will be forbidden too because they are climate killers, now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.!!! (BABVVEN & TEBBVEN & BEFVO laws)!!!!
A lot of work has gone into preventing this turning into a pile of rust
The owner mentioned Raj. Did he say he was the other bidder or the owner who was selling it on the auction site? Was that Raj Sangha of CAS, I wonder? 🤔
once bitten for ever smitten ....
Lovely car. But let’s not get carried away - it’s a bit of a Trigger’s Broom 😆
Love It
Mine has only 169000 on the clock! 🤣
Nice car love that story £20.000 that was a lot of money back in the day you could buy a house for that money love the way it’s been use and it’s not been a garage queen lol if l would have brought it when you sold it you might not have got it back 😂
I wish I never sold my E28 M535i & E28 535iSE Manual… 😢
Isn’t it sad the car didn’t do major road trips?
When bmw was a BMW
The guy sold the car to himself?
Sounds like he needs an indicator bulb
Biggest question about this vehicle not addressed for some bizarre reason.... Anyone guess what it is?
How much??££??
@@stuartrhodes7352 Yeeerrrr.... and it's not like he is cagey about money as he mentioned the refurb cost.
What did he pay for it? Second time...
Very good qs
I defy anyone with a soul to not see an e28 and then realise/hear its a 3.5. then ride in it and its an M5 not M535i...and you your not nursing a chubby.
Needs a 2JZ
So some busy body did a load of research & tracked down this guy to ask him about the car & he went and bought it himself 😂
Simon Cowell?
