    I appreciate that spacing of the video and audio ports.

      Yes! Can't have the audio too close to the video. No 'mixing' allowed, lol. Thanks for watching.

    Nice job, jane. I love the smell of vintage equipment, must be something wrong with me 😂👍

      I especially like the smell of old vacuum tube equipment. Tektronix tube-based 'scopes had a really unique smell that brings me back to my childhood when my father was a technician at Tektronix.

      @JazzyJane_uk it does look fantastic. I owned and even worked for a company that was making games for this machine back in the day. It set the foundation for games that came afterwards. Always hated the rf output.

    Great video! I just started learning to solder a week ago and converted my Xbox 360 arcade stick into a genesis (mega drive) stick. Now I'm curious about doing a composite mod to my 2600. Great job!

      Keep practicing with the soldering, you'll quickly get better. Practice on some old gear or scrap components you don't care about. I recommend you avoid the lead free solder and get some leaded solder, otherwise you might think your soldering is bad where in fact it might be good but being let down by rubbish lead free solder. You can get that on eBay.
      Get a temperature controlled iron and set for about 350 deg C for leaded solder.
      Give it a go with the Atari 2600, it really makes a massive difference, but make sure you get an anti static wrist strap as the IC's in the 2600 are EXTREMELY sensitive to static electricity damage.

    At 21:33 why did Joust still display briefly on the screen when you switched it back on with the PAC-MAN cartridge inserted?

    • @JazzyJane_uk
      @JazzyJane_uk  2 месяца назад +1

      Yes it is really strange. I did notice that too. Not sure if the memory chips still had some residual data left in them. Will have to look into it.

    Great job on this mod! Do you know if it would work on an NTSC Atari 2600 Jr? Regarding the Atari 2600 version of Pac-Man, it was reviled. Ms. Pac-Man is far superior if you have that one. Cheers from Canada!

    • @JazzyJane_uk
      @JazzyJane_uk  2 месяца назад +1

      I don't see why it wouldn't but you would have to find the right points on the board to fit the mod. They won't be exactly the same points as on my unit.

  • @intel386DX

    I hate to remove components and disable the RF. You can make a much better mod with some resistors and one cap by pulling the video from CD4050B buffer IC. This mod applies on the 2600 Jr. As well. Only 4 switch models do not have this chip.

    • @JazzyJane_uk
      @JazzyJane_uk  Месяц назад

      We tried it without removing the RF components. It interfered with the composite output, so they had to go. The video is coming from the buffer IC. That's where the video signals are mixed. The transistor acts as a buffer driver for the overall output.
      This mod is all about improving picture and sound quality so why would you want to keep the inferior RF output.

    • @intel386DX
      @intel386DX Месяц назад

      @@JazzyJane_uk no interference for that mod I am talking about. I will find you a schematic. Also not removing any parts you aways can undo the MOD and back console to the stock state for authenticity. And by keeping the RF unit you can play on the old TV set as is :)

    how is it connected to the tv as most don't have audio input

    • @JazzyJane_uk
      @JazzyJane_uk  2 месяца назад

      This particular TV has many inputs including inputs for left and right sound as well as composite video. A scart socket could be used if the TV has one of those.
