What a treat at long last to watch a proper wicketkeeper playing for England, Foakes is way above anybody else and didn’t it show in Australia when the keeping was abysmal !

West Indies started very good with bowling and batting also.. But in the middle the same old prblm of losing wicket in patches but Bonner and holder.. Saved the team.. Booner so pleasing to watch when he is defending the ball in Carribean style and holder also will be hoping to get no. 1 test all rounder ranking once again.. Day 3 will be good to watch.. Match is totally balanced

West Indies need to learn to that if you drop catches, you lose matches.
Very evenly poised test, like the way it keeps see sawing back n forth between teams being on top. Reminds me of older style test matches, very good to watch, always something going on. Dukes ball should be used all around the world so we never have dull boring test matches anywhere even if the pitch is a road like in Pakistan. GET RID OF KOOKABURRA BALLS.

The West Indies are playing well. I think that Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Cornwall, Brittany, and the Isle of Man should copy the West Indies and have a composite national side,. A Celtic Nations International side would cover a region of 20 million people and could grow cricket.

Jason Holder, most underrated player of this generation.
hardly, guy can't bowl above 80mph consistently, which is poor at this level. If he was a 85mph bowler with his size and frame, it'd be shades of Curtley Ambrose.
@@Josh-xl9bh pace is not everything stupid, you can see many examples like Philander, Abbas, Bhuvneshwar, Anderson, Southee who have dominated the opponent in their prime times respectively. And I am counting him as an All Rounder not as a bowler.

Agree, Blackwood is a hack. Mayers is also a bit loose with the bat but he offers decent seam bowling. Better option.

The man got a hat trick in T20; bowls economically and now contributing with bat.Dont know how long cricket media will keep on headlining about Jadeja Kohli Rohit Sharma Pant.. Sometimes I want to slap the cricket medias really hard because they only write about Indian players.

It’s hard to not watch this thinking what if Anderson and broad were playing. All of a sudden our bowling looks incredibly average at best.

Chris Woakes, only two years younger than Stuart, was in eighth place (behind two 'batsmen') with an average of 55.33 and an economy rate of 3.74. Perhaps you can explain why he was chosen to lead the England attack in the West Indies, as no-one I know can.

I'm constantly confused why captains don't have fine thirdman as a regulation field placement, so many boundaries are scored down there test after test after test and never a fielder is there to stop them..? do captains like leaking boundaries down there every game..? they will have a fine leg and deep mid wicket when bowlers are bowling outside off but no fine third man..???

Awful bowling by Woakes first up, and yet Root kept him on when Overton was bowling far better at the time (and was unlucky until he tired). I thought Leach was tidy and could make a difference in the fourth innings. England underestimated Holder (again) and Root set some very poor fields - on this pitch, a long on and a deep square leg for Leach are no-brainers. They cut off the aggressive shots and force the batsmen to hit against the spin to score. Bonner's innings could make the difference if he holds on. It's a shame WI didn't select Rahkeem Cornwall, a better bowler than Permaul who also offers more with the bat. So he's not the most mobile, but IMO he brings more to the team. Ditto Fabian Allen. It's going to be an interesting Test.
I may be wrong, but Jack Leach seemed more concerned with his economy rate than in taking wickets, perhaps after his brutal treatment in Australia?
I recall another 'flat' spinner who was a superb one-day bowler, Jack Simmons. Unfortunately, this is not a one-day match.
@@dovetonsturdee7033 I know what you mean, but I think he's hamstrung by Root's inability to set a field for him. With the 'quicks' having little or no penetration, Root sees him as a defensive option to slow the run rate. Leach is no 'flat Jack' - more like Ashley Giles (who was used in a similar fashion by Vaughan), but with a better bowling average
This is depressing. I'm struggling to think of a worse England team than this - the West Indies look like they're cruising and are not looking like they're remotely pressed. How sad.

Chris Woakes never lets England down at home, but his away record is awful. After his performance in Australia (actually eighth in the England bowling averages, when Anderson was first and Broad third) his choice as leader of the attack defies all reason. Perhaps Strauss saw his averages (bowling 55.33, batting 24.33) and got them the wrong way round?!
