I assume that the fact that the branches are bare of leaves made it difficult for the obstacle avoidance to work as advertised.

I feel for ya seems like you weren't having the best day. Honestly the fact that the trees had branches that were so thin makes it very hard for the mini to pick it up. SIdeways OA is the weakest part of the drone and should not be relied on but the overall OA is the best at the moment. I suggest being a little more aware of what's around you and not saying the obstacle avoidance does not work because it definitely does. Hope you don't give up on it and it's a good showcase of the mini 4's abilities.
