I really appreciate you hit on the actual numbers of afr for a diesel to be roaring coal and the actual adverse effects of doing so, rather parroting the same line over as most other people do when talking about rolling coal
As a diesel owner I love that we have people like him in the industry. With the crackdown on the industry from the EPA it's forcing a lot of new innovative designs in injectors and pistons which do more to limit emissions than the horribly designed ones we have on trucks today. Innovation is key.
Innovation is key. But at the same time, the EPA has way too much power. We fought the British Empire over a tea tax, but our government can kick our door in for selling little tuning devices?!
It would be interesting. I would hope he would look at things other than the last 20 years. There were a ton of influential engines in the past that got us where we are today. Flathead Ford V8, the Small Block Chevy, the Hemi, Rover V8, 2J, RB, etc.
Banks is one that I have completely overlooked in my aspirations to turn a diesel beetle into something that could one day be Pikes Peak worthy. I'll have to look through their catalogues and see what could be put together or garnered from the tuning process that they've got.
Banks is the definition of a national treasure. Absolute legend. I remember reading about his Bonneville truck YEARS ago...went crazy fast and towed its own trailer. Friggin epic.

If you know the 5.9 cummins "6BT" and how it went from the worlds best industrial motor to a drag strip , you knond of know him already. Hes the mam behind the ohrase "put a cummins in it" which is something truck designers and industrial pump manufcaturers often said. He got racers saying it.

We are lucky that Gale is a Nerd who happens to be a Gearhead. He has an unrelenting thirst for Knowledge and understanding of the Internal Combustion Engine.
The thing that makes Gale Banks different from others, and why he truly deserves the king of diesel and forced induction crown, is that he TESTS, TESTS, AND TESTS EVERYTHING! This is why his forced induction diesel dragster blows clean white smoke, no rolling coal at all (which he correctly says is absolutely stupid because it's power lost directly out your exhaust!)

it's honestly a singular aspect of actual motorsports taken out of context and made ridiculous. high power diesel builds spit out soot naturally just because the huge amount of fuel being dumped into the engine can't always all be burned, similar to gas engines spitting flames. some people probably saw both of these at the race track and said "what if we did just that, it'll almost look like the race trucks/cars haha" but it just looks dumb when it isn't backed up by actual power increases

Banks says if your diesel is blowing black smoke it’s running all wrong. He tunes cars for more power and better emissions. My coworker had a sub 6.2 with banks turbo from the 80s early 90s
I learned about Banks when I was a teenager way back when reading Hot Rod magazine and seeing that red T/A. It’s only the young men of today who grew up on tuners, rather than hot rods, who don’t know who he is.
Thank you for honoring this man he is a true legend and most people don't even know about him and that he's still continuing even at eighty plus and still making the best diesel products in the market. He has a huge contract with the department of defense making Duramax engines even better for the Oshkosh and I believe another vehicle in the military, and when you're making stuff for the department of defense that truly is saying something. He and his shop are so impressive especially with all the free knowledge he has on his channel and how he keeps it all LEGAL 50 state and still makes tons of power if not more power more reliably and better than almost anybody else. And that's from somebody who drives a 2001 5.9 Cummins. He is truly the diesel Guru. And remember rolling coal is just wasted fuel. And Gale Banks believe that engineers that said that in many vids. My diesel engine just produces a tiny little black cloud at startup and it is tiny and even when I mash the gas there is no rolling coal and it GOES.
WW2 war time aircraft engine designs were way ahead of their times. I thought this video was going to be about the 20th anniversary trans am with the updated 87 Buick grand national engine. I guess it’s arguably, but the 89 turbo trans am of 89 was the superior powertrain by comparison. The 3.8 sfi turbo intercooled gnx with 2 years of advancements in a lightweight f body supporting the gn engine was and still is a monster. Only beaten by the 4.3 awd system in the typhoon and syclone 60/40 split it was a monster. The gn, syclone, and typhoon were much quicker than the corvette a unspoken no no amongst gm vehicles.
Mr Banks is one or even THE bestest of broskies and galskies favored by me bruh all cuz he just wanted to make diesels coupled with turbos become efficient, reliable, clean, and other cool, good and even gigachad stuff like that while still being so powerful that even a single turbodiesel Dodge Ram can easily beat a modified Supra on a dragrace due to having really good torque and hp as well when i decided to watch this video again when it appeared in my recommendations page and then realized just how good and actually helpful and useful diesels can be when combined with turbocharger technology and themselves not needing to shit on a poor Prius just wanting to mind it's own business alone in peace via soot which is "cool" when it's really not good imo which might even however be an actual fact instead of being just an opinion of mine and, also, before i even watched this video again however, i previously thinked that turbochargers are a waste of money, reliability, simplicity and time as well as others just like what Gordon Murray may wanna think about turbos back then when he's designing the McLaren F.1 in the 1990s, but because of this video and Mr Gale Banks himself however, i changed my mind that yes, turbos can be good and even a thingie an actually good-old gigachad has in his inventory as long as you do the thing of creating turbos, implementing em into gasoline and/or even diesel engines, and then upgrading, modding, and doing the busy stuff with these correctly even with some small mistakes in the way in and out, having yourself not needing to make soot just to unintentionally get bonked by a big-ass Doge with a banhammer and this video might even influence the stuff i do in Car Company Tycoon (a mobile game about making cars and some other vehicles in it like pickups and hatchbacks or even hothatches instead as examples that i have on my tablet rn btw :D) like creating the turbocharged versions of previous AVC Skibidi i3/i4/i5/i6 engines while also making em become diesel just for quick and good torque and increased efficiency while also coupling em and the turbos themselves with engine parts that are racing-specified and are made of magnesium for decreased weight, fuel-defficiency and other bad shiz engines can have and also making them have fuel-injection systems for reliability, efficiency, and good power as a result in the mobile videogame i have rn anyway in the future if i can, considering the limited amount of stuff i have ingame that are money and the research points which are much more limited than the ingame money itself and having itself however also having to be commonly collected via reward ads for the R&D in the game which can only appear 4 times imo for some reasons why the thingie is like that anyway. :)/🤔

Excellently produced and well done video, looks like your’re on the same brainwave as Gale is. I’m in the Marketing Department at Gale Banks Engineering and I’ll forward this over to our Brand Manager. 👍🏼
