We Don't Go Easy On It - $3,499 Fezzari Delano Peak 29er Trail Bike Test

- Vital MTB tester, Greg Montgomery, thrashed Fezzari's new 29er trail bike for over a month at bike parks, on local trails and during epic shuttle laps across Idaho, Wyoming and Montana. This $3,499 mountain bike from the Salt Lake City brand handled it all. We do wish for 200mm brake rotors, and we had some issues with the stock WTB wheels. Ultimately we switched to Stan's Flow wheels, a $300 upgrade fee, and never had any issues after that.

I don't think that bike is meant for that kind of downhill park riding but it handled it very well! Impressive
I tried DVO suspension 4 years ago and was amazed on how smooth it felt back then. Obviously tons of R&D has been done since then and I would imagine that it’s even better now. This is a great review, especially the rider perspective!
I've taken my Delano down some rough stuff in Steamboat and Bentonville, and it rocked it out no problem. I love climbing with it.
2 Days ago I bought a Fezzari Cascade Peak and I am so excited for it to come! I think its an amazing bike for the money.

Brilliant review - I'm mostly surprised that the elusive dream bike frame (travel, geometry, f/r center lengths) is also coming from a brand that does value, my other primary goal... now to see if they'll do a crazy build (Zeb/TopazT3/Saint Brakes/GX Eagle)
That's a good deal for a carbon frame
have you tried the viathon hardtail mountain bike? you should try it and give your thoughts on it
Thought my ripmo af was a good deal. This bike is solid.
SLX build, but not SLX brakes? Those look like MT-420s. I have SLX brakes on my bike with a 203mm XT rotor up front and 180mm XT rotor out back and they are incredibly good. I tried those MT-420s on an Ibis demo yesterday, they were serviceable and didn't lose any modulation when hot, but I would definitely transfer my SLX over for more power, better heat dissipation and better feel. Still a hell of a deal for carbon frame and DVO suspension, though I would probably happily take Deore drivetrain to get SLX brakes on the build.
$3499 build has Shimano Deore MT6100 4-piston brakes (180mm rotors)
The aggressor is a smart choice for rear. Better rolling than the dhr2. I personally went with the double down casing.
Sweet looking bike. Still don't like the name but this has me sold!
I already bought a Jeffsy Pro 29 a few months ago. But this could have been a proper bike for me.
Tamarack is a little rough for this bike, but it looks like it rocked it!!
Man this is a solid build bike for that price good job fezzari
I'm a big fan of feeling "In the bike" vs "on the bike". With the La Sal you mentioned feeling a little but too high on the bike. How does the Delano comparo?🤙
Here's my experience with the the La Sal Peak:
The steep 78° seat tube angle and slack 65° head tube angle push the seat and bars closer to each other resulting in a shortish 445mm reach on the medium. This makes the area where the rider sits feel a bit cramped front to back. Couple that with the tall 790mm standover height and I felt like I was being pushed up above the bike.
After I rode the La Sal Peak at the Sedona Mountain Bike Festival for a few hours, I came back with three wishes... a longer reach, slacker seat tube angle, and a shorter standover height.
The Delano Peak granted all three of my wishes with a 755mm reach, a slightly slacker 77.5° seat tube angle, while keeping the slack 65° head tube angle. The standover height is the BIG difference at 741mm, so instead of feeling like you are on top of the bike, you feel like you are "in the bike".
The La Sal Peak is an awesome trail bomber. I absolutely loved riding it, but I recommend going up a size or going with the Delano Peak if you have a longer torso and shorter legs like I do. Hope that helps!
JeffJackson MTB awesome that helps a lot! Thanks for taking the time to write that all up!
Nice bike, trails and riding.
trying to decide between the delano and the yt jeffsy. any suggestions?
I reckon we are gunna need an Aussie distribution point for these bikes 🤔🤘
They will ship to you!
What WTB rims did it have? I here the i29 are not that great...
the ST i29
Whats the weight of the bike, you can get lighter bike with alu frame and better components sometimes, but in that case it doesnt have carbon properties but it will have component ones, so weight is kinda important
our large w/o pedals was 31 pounds 5 oz
If you dont care for carbon frames you can get the Propain Tyee AL in 27.5 or 29 with GX eagle, a Bikeyoke revive, Mt7s and Rockshox ultimate suspension for 3250€.
Looks good!
Which wtb wheels were on there that failed ?
I got myself KTM with shimano deore XT brakes and shifters, FOX 32 Talas fork and Fox shock I think its rp23 something like that and i paid 600 euros for it used in PERFECT conditions so im wondering if that's a good deal and is it good for dh
8:54 dented beyond repair? laughs in bench vice. I bent my syncros silverton 2.5 rim (bottom of the line specd with scott) the same way doing 60ish kph and hit a rock on the fire road. pulled the puppy back with the ol' bench vice/clamp
That is tough enduro riding on a trail bike 😅
No wonder why those trail wtb rims didn't make it 😅
Tough enduro? Where do you live Kansas? Looks like a normal trail in the Rockies
So sick! I wish i could purchase this bike along with my la sal peak and my wifes wire peak i am about to purchase.
Weight?
our size large test bike w/o pedals is 31 pounds, 5oz
How long does the bike typically take to arrive from Order day to arrival?
Mine took 2 weeks on the nose
So you need to keep the box in case you want to send it back for warranty claims
Very impressive. I like this because for $3800 you could sell the stock wheels and get a set of Hunt trail wides and drop the weight of this to just over 30lbs. All the other mid travel bikes like the Ripmo and Hightower, Commencals are fat 35lb pigs. Not trail bike weight.
Thanks for the info. Those wheels are lighter the onyx+Nobl tr37 combo I was going to purchase.I will forgo the silence. Now I can purchase those titanium cranks! I like to keep bikes below 30 lb.
A few riders gonna squeeze that bike like the taster. So, CAPABLE.
Disappointing. The base or comp package has been changed. The price is up, value is way down. The SLX drive train has been replaced. Pretty much the bike in this review is now the Elite option for a $1000 more. I only found out during the order process. And yes I cancelled my order.
this video is almost 2 years old. FYI.
Party on 2 wheels
They need a REBRAND! Tell them I know a guy!
No aluminum? That's dumb.
Why? It's a full carbon bike for less than most bike companies charge for their aluminum version. The Ripmo AF is 500 more for the same suspension components in aluminum. I don't necessarily believe carbon is the superior material but it does have benefits over aluminum.
@@nate390 Because if Fezzari made the same bike in aluminum it would be at least $500 less, and I don't care for the hard to recycle nature of carbon at the end of its life.
@@baddriversofcolga I'm sure you can't recycle carbon fiber yet. If it can be it would not be cost effective.
If you want aluminum, check out their Cascade Peak! It's awesome!
stating that an air shock has rebound is like saying a mountain bike tire has knobs.
no shit
I still think if you walked into Ibis headquarters and asked them if they had anything new that might fit a particular characteristic, three weeks before a new bike is publicly launched, and they said NO NOTHING you’re going to feel you were lied to. The bike was already privately released well in advance and in peoples hands. I feel Fezarri lied to me and for that they’re losing an existing customer for life. Someone that consistently tried to spread the brand among local riders and friends. These days all I have to say to a lot of people who ask or are shopping is “avoid completely”. The faults of my La Sal Peak combined with that crappy customer service have pushed me too far. Thanks Fezarri!
Good story
Relaunch the brand with a better sounding name and sponsor an EWS team and you'll get the street cred that YT, Canyon, and Commencal have gained.
Why slx drivetrain? Put something middle of the road. Jeez!
you must not have ridden the new slx. its excellent and better than GX imo
kaye no I havent rode that yet.
The SLX is considered the middle of the road for Shimano now with the release of the DEORE group set and being just below Shimano XT.
SLX is very good, reliable, and shifts tight.
I don't know why the name sounds cheap to me. Like a wana be Ferrari. Mail order sounds like Male order. Like an Italian guy is going to show up at the door that looks like Fabio.
i dont trust carbon yet, unless your talking santa cruz. i see all the yt problems 😂
Fezzari tests their carbon bikes to 130% of industry standards. All frames are backed by a lifetime warranty.
I’ve been punishing my ‘19 Jeffsy for the past year and have had zero issues with my carbon frame.
Direct sales? Well try to avoid that, their after sales service was soo poor, especially when you live far away from US or Europe
I've not had any issues with after sales service. Was quite amazing actually.
@@thepageboys8830 well, peace of mind is better than cheaper price, also big brand bike shop gave financial support for buying good bikes and safety and not yet to mention support local trail, and community, most of my friends and me also has already try direct sales and it wasnt good, crappy after sales, bottom bracket cracking one year after using oh it's must be crash replacement and not defact, hell if hit by stone or crash the mark would be clear, try to order RD hanger for model x year 2017 wasnt available, 6 month of waiting ignoring me etc
No brands are percfect, but if you ride everyday, almost everyday, live outside US or Europe, direct sales is bad choice, choose at your LBS first, there are many big brand with affordable price than these direct sales only the media wont mention them, if it werent good, then direct sales it is
@@aldirinaldi2008 I could have bought direct on line but went with my LBS. They have been awesome after sale. Even my shock pump got clogged up with Stans (no CO2) and they said they would cover it under warranty. I bent my derailleur and they fixed it. I took my other bike in for a check up and it was free. One of my Frankenstein bikes needed a new stem they just swapped out mine for one they had from another bike. You can not beat local. I've saved more money on repairs than I would have on buying cheaper.
@@justsayin3600 Not all of us are lucky enough to have a good local bike shop. The one in our area is terrible.
