If he’s not going to develop freshman into starting juniors and seniors then he will have to call his program something else like (and it sounds terrible to say) a “portal program”.
I think he is still going to develop players, but the window for development will be much shorter now. If guys aren't cracking the two deep or showing potential by their 2nd, maybe 3rd year, it's time to move on.
Although the portal is the wild, wild, west, it also gets guys that may help correct recruiting misses or mistakes. College athletics is transactional now. Sadly, no one will remember guys that were here for a year.
