Rumour has it that Paul wanted Jimi Hendrix to appear in the Magical mystery tour film. But it clashed with the Monterey pop festival which made Jimi a star.

Right? I can see why the general public didn't jive with it as a traditional film with traditional acting and editing, but for what it is, and especially for the time, i think it's fantastic. I love the bizarre choices and sort of "grungy" homespun quality of it. That's part of what makes this whole period of their career so fascinating to me: it feels homemade, low budget, and it just works for them imo

Even in this little silly scene, you can see who the best actors are. Ringo coming in first, John at a pretty close second, George gets third because he doesn't care enough to be awful at it, and Paul is dead last. (thank heavens because he's infuriatingly good at everything else)

Ringo was pretty good. His role in the Magic Christian is great, very good film even if it wasn't critically acclaimed. I've read that either Richard Lester or Victor Spinetti said that George was a natural actor and it was a shame he wasn't in more films, but you wouldn't be able to tell given his minimal role here. Paul and John on the other hand... Lol brilliance in music doesn't always translate to brilliance on film i guess

*This "AdamBound" channel is one MARVELLOUS WONDER AND MIRACLE of a Beatle channel let me tell you !... And here is a question to the people in charge of the Beatles' releases in box sets, dvds, blue-rays, streamings and so forth : about this incredible, unbelievable, almost surreal bunch of Magical Mystery Tour outtakes of the magicians scene for instance, WHY ON EARTH didn't you guys release these as bonuses in that big 2012 Magical Mystery Tour DVD box set ???... Just why ???... And by the way, you can clearly see with these outtakes that if the Beatles had given it to a professional editor for editing purpose, the film could have been much better and would have probably been longer than 50 minutes !... Because they DID have enough material as one can see here to make that scene a way more complete and compelling scene than it actually is in their finished self-edited final product !... Kudos anyway dear Adam Bound for this magnificent archival work of yours, well done mate !*

I kinda wanted this whacky little snippet in the movie being a lot bigger element of the whole movie. Like maybe the Wizards were behind the tour, and how they intended it to be both magical & mysterious but it wasn't so much because they were really a bunch of bumbling amateurs who were drinking too much of their own potions/ brew. Reference: "Ringo Starr wraps a Christmas Present".. If done well it could have been quite an interesting and funny element, and a way The Beatles themselves could save face -"hey don't blame us, blame them wizards!

This was another hair brained Paul McCartney idea!
In retrospect, I believe George's classic "It's All Too Much" should have been released as a "B" Side to "All You Need Is Love" instead of the dreadful "Baby, You're A Rich Man" that contains an obnoxious McCartney chous. It would have been perfect for the "Summer Of Love."
Instead, after being recorded in June,1967, it was shelved and not released until January 17, 1969 on the dreadful "Yellow Submarine" soundtrack which was another McCartney brainstorm!

Anyone expecting something like a normal movie needs to just forget it! Absolutely bizarre from start to finish and you will occasionally laugh out loud as you simply won't believe what you're seeing. The brilliant music speaks for itself but there is no plot and poor George often looks like a man who's had no choice but to be dragged into this nonsense because his mates are doing it. Not really counting this crazy movie but In my opinion, John should have done more acting in his career as I think he's the best one out of the four.

Agreed. The album is pretty good but the film is dreadful. Paul's idea seemed a good one ie grab a camera and a bus, drive through the countryside and see what happens, unfortunately nothing did.

@@staceykeeley4219 the music is fabulous, but they had some good experience doing that. I think Paul bit off a bit more than he could chew here. You do have to admire his chutzpah though.

MMT had a lot of great music, but OMG the "movie" is garbage that hurts to watch. As John Lennon said, if Brian was still alive it never would have happened.

But it did happen and because it’s The Beatles.. it’s alright.

@@fretboardmaster70 Even heroes/idols make mistakes. MMT was a mistake. The Beatles created music that will be listened to possibly for centuries, A Hard Day's Night set the stage for every music video ever made...and MMT gave us some great songs. The "movie"? Crap.
