    Don't let the looks deceive you folks. There's tons of things happening within those project walls. While better than years past, you don't want to play around in Brownsville and East New York.

    Thi is very cool except try looking at these same streets in the late 1960's through around 1985 it eas a totally different scene. Burned out buildings, dirty streets. damaged roads, garbage. junk yard dogs, old cars and tires littering the sidewalks. Just old gritty broken down buildings. There is NO video on youtube of how it was in the 70;s.I used to drive around there. If you took the #3 at New lots or the LL at Sutter in the 70s or 80s you KNOW how it USED to be.

      @Piggy-Oink-Oink 9 лет назад +1

      manmann lee Yes. There was a polluting sanitation dump up on Flatlands where Starrett City is now./ where they drag race (or did).
      \.. Louisiana and Alabama ave had old junk yards, They used to mark old buildings with a "X" to be torn down. Sometimes whole blocks. Not sure when they started to rebuild-probably mid 90s. A friend used to work for CON ED and said -you would not believe the basements in the 80s..he was dodging rats all day. I used to eat at fast food burger places long gone there called "Wetsons" On pennsylvania . Ave and Farrells" Peace.

      As they say "if you don't live there, then you got no business being there." You probably know a lot of the people in your area, you have family, you belong. The people who REALLY are in trouble are the idiots that don't belong there, cuz they stick out like a sore thumb. They don't know the areas to avoid and they don't know what signs to look out for. But if you don't get any problems living in Brownsville then god bless ya. Hope things stay that way.

    Most of these streets and building look pretty nice and well-kept. For this to be the most dangerous neighborhood in NYC is quite an accomplishment. After traveling throughout Central and South America, this totally pales in comparison to a third world ghetto. At least these people have four walls and a roof over their heads. The people I saw in Panama, Guatemala, etc lived in burned out tin shacks without electricity or running water. They could only dream of the luxury of a government subsidized housing project.

      Iooks are deceiving ..i lived in Brownsville 1966-1992 now i live in newark and newark is filthy as hell and so is the way some people dress ..Brownsville is cleaner and the people dress way better ..but people no lie Brownsville people have very nasty messed up attitudes. .newark people will rob you of course ..steal nails out of a banded building bcuz its so poor here ..but Brownsville people are f****d up individuals. .

      +Jj Cc Brownsville - along with Soundview (Bronx) LOOKS better than it did but it's still a hellhole.Brownsville - unlike Bushwick, Williamsburg, or Bed Sty will NEVER Gentrify due to the LARGE number of NYCHA projects and the subhuman slime who live there.

    • @Miltap4848
      @Miltap4848 8 лет назад +1

      Brownsville has the highest density of projects in the entire city. Built starting in 1934, a terrible experiment and idea, a hotbed of crime from the get go. There's so much history there, and it doesn't begin recently, it begins in 1875. It was never a great place to live, but once it was special, in a positive way..

    • @Miltap4848

      Gentrifiers will run home fast if they get too close to B'ville. This is a third world existence, with real violence, not video game stuff.

      America has money, South America doesn’t. Many of these people never been to South America or no other third world country, they don’t know that you fin for yourself in third world countries. No projects, no welfare, no food stamps, no section 8. And because of that, they are far more dangerous. Brownsville is dangerous, Baltimore is dangerous but not dangerous like slums in South America or even Jamaica. Two different types of danger. They don’t understand object poverty desperation.
