Keep coming back to this one... reminds me of a better time that never existed.
That right there, says it all.
I love this album and it might be my favorite and I've been replacement fan for 30 years and I've never heard this album
49:00 is a set of home studio recordings in ilk of his Stereo/Mono and Come Feel Me Tremble albums. And as such it's rough around the edges. Which with Paul Westerberg is a very very good thing. He really is in his element and therefore, at his very very best
totally man, I haven't really listened to it till now, just bits and pieces ,and it's blowing my mind! and I love Folker too
Those albums you mentioned are some of the best rock n roll/folk to ever grace my ears.
Westerberg's very own take on GBV Bee Thousand. A low-fi fantastic.
I would pay $49 for the vinyl release.
The brilliance of the songwriting filtered thru the grungy kaleidoscopic offhanded approach is mesmerizing. Like trying to tune into a fucking wonderful far away radio station that you have no wonder where it is...
This is a lo fi master piece. We need better than mp3! They need to reissue this on vinyl!
Thanks for uploading.
it would be a great RSD release
it was illegal
@@moatrboat Leave those parts out. Or better yet, resolve the copyright problems.
just saw an itnerview where Paul said this is his best work. Or what he wants to be known for. It was from this interview: Paul Westerberg, interviewed by Peter Wolf (REUPLOAD)
I agree. This is absolutely transcendent. Do you have a link to the interview?
it's really great. Good night Sweet Prince.

I’m in bed with a cold/viral thing my doc reckons during COVID-19 and have spent way too much time sleeping and then looking up on rabbit holes. Thankful I came back to Pauly. I’ve cancelled out a lot music the last few years until January 2020. Great to catch up with what Pauli’s been doing. Read that Spin interview. Let’s Not Belong Together is a great song from grandpa boy. I’m glad he acknowledged that. The I Don’t Cares record is great too as is this. Weekend listening will be all Paul.
This album is magic. Can’t stop jamming to it.
Paul Westerberg is a genius songwriter. This record is a gem.
One of PW's finest solo works. So glad I downloaded the album before the copyright police arrived.
The best kept secret album ever.
And likely to stay that way. It’s brilliant but was pulled from distribution because of copyright violations due to the use of the song samples it includes (Partridge Family, etc.).
love this more with each listen. And he's so cool he doesn't drive. Does not drive! Very rock & roll.
Marc Bolan of T. Rex also didn't drive, and yet he wrote a lot about CARS. And Bruce Springsteen, as a teenager anyway, did not drive, but wrote all about CARS.
The summer this was released I had just returned home after living for five years in Papua, Indonesia and was about to move to Phoenix, a city I knew nothing about. I was anxious and out of place existentially, and nowhere felt like home. Then "48:00 of Your Life" was released (when I was in Minnesota, coincidentally), I immediately purchased it and burned it to CD, and I felt closer to home than in many years. Thanks for posting this. And thank you, Paul.
I'm from London but I used to listen to this going to work in Sao Paulo twice on the bus.
This man is so fucking brilliant, other musicians should cower and hide their collective faces in shame as they hear the way real creativity sounds
Maybe his best work.
Outside of the Replacements, absolutely.
It's so great.
excerpts from reviews
'I would actually spend 49 minutes listening to Westerberg gargle water.'
The album comes as one long 49 minute MP3, and the songs tend to bleed into one another, even at times playing on top of each other. In the virtual "liner notes", Westerberg states for his fans that "This product is not faulty- All sounds are intentional and valid as a work of art".
However, most of the songs are remarkable
is so fantastic
its a masterpiece
Guided By Westerberg
Like Pollard, Westerberg makes music for himself. The people who put down Westerberg's post mats output are just trendy posers.
@@shinybeast8946 they usually have the depth of a dry puddle
I've been aware of 49:00 for awhile, but never listened to it until recently because it's not readily available besides on here and soundcloud. Such an incredible album. I honestly think this could've been a career comeback for him if only it reached a wider audience.
The best Westerberg ever!
Truly one of the best, and weirdest, albums I have ever heard. Layers and layers of brilliance. Reminds me of channel-surfing through radio stations while on a road trip and landing on great music. Love it.
This is the best album ever recorded by an individual. Bar none!😊
Bullshit. Stereo/Mono is just as good.
Absolutely some of Paul’s best work.
it really is
Going to see the Mats in September ... I will never sleep again.
I just keep playing this over and over, it gets better with each listen. Thankyou
paul is my favorite alternative artist of all time . He continues to make me want to write ,,, due to his great sounding imperfect voice . Always cool words , and moans ! my band THE ATTITUDES is strongly influenced by paul westerberg . Me hats off to ya Paul !!!
OUTSTANDING. Love live Paul 'Grandpaboy' Westerberg!
Westerberg is simply the greatest of his generation - lets not forget that he was what made Kurt Cobain want to pick up a guitar - enjoy - I fear the rich kids making music today are never gonna come close to this stuff. Thanks Paul
Westerberg is a fucking genius.
It’s weird that Kurt talked about every punk, hardcore, indie pop, post-punk, etc. band he loved (exhaustedly), but I never saw him mention the Mats or Paul in any video interviews at the time. I have a theory that songwriters and bands like to keep their biggest influences secret to make them look like their “genius” is unique. They’ll also name adjacent bands like Husker Du or something close but not the big thing. I don’t know how much Mats or Paul I hear in Nirvana. That production makes it such a different thing than the Replacements
@@thomasminarchickjr.7355 i think you mean exhaustively, he said pedantically
This record is wildly cool.
@@thomasminarchickjr.7355 I hear it blatantly,Cobain apparently thought he was even talking trash about him in World Class Fad
An album I wasn't aloud to hear Paul Westerberg, take a fence don't buying anything just gave you everything lolol LOVE YOU Paul Westerberg LOVE ❣️❤️❤️ ENDLESS HEART LOVE YOU Paul Westerberg ahum love women Paul Westerberg but your OKAY in my books LOVE.
the ghost says 'you're welcome'
thank you. truly.
Actual pop perfection
He's aa fantastic pop songwriter.
i love this record so much
Buried treasure.
'All in all, this is a daring and non-commercial statement from one of the greatest songwriters of my lifetime'
all these quotes are from the same review which i'd link if yt would allow me to
Sidenote: It breaks my heart that Paul's dad never went to see him play. I know that feeling, and it hurts. The song "My Dad" (from Folker) sounded utterly genuine to me, not unlike John Lennon's "God is a concept by which we measure our pain..." etc. I would've tried to work with him to polish the lyrics just a tiny bit, just to make the pieces fit together a little better (without losing the overall integrity of the piece) and then add some tasteful backing layers (color). Creativity becomes art when it takes shape and is fully actualized. Westerberg is a wonderfully creative person who bumps up against something artistic and then recoils before the thing ever comes together completely, as if he's terrified of creating a finished work. On the other hand, he might just be one of those kinetic types that can't be bothered with the drudgery of putting the finishing touches on anything (too boring perhaps?). I'll bet that he has notebooks full of half-finished songs still to come...
That's pretty insightful. It's hard to know if it's true but it's very insightful. I've certainly experienced that dynamic myself. But whatever his shortcomings he is, certainly, a great artist and maybe that is his mark...the unfinishedness of some of it. That's part of the tension we all feel as listeners I guess. Peace
He made a choice not to perfectly craft those songs .he explains his rational inside the sleeve of stereo mono .After 2000 ,he was tired of high priced studio musicians and manipulations ,he wanted something closer to what was really going on.Lo fi in his basement.I think its some of the best work of his solo career.
“never coming back” is a serious gem
Love this album! Hopefully, it will be released on vinyl someday.
I think I love Paul!
Aah the wonderful imperfect humanness...
Finally found this... Amazing. Made my day.. 1000%
Love love love this track...tracks? Incredibly personal.
It's available on SoundCloud intact (i.e. with the covers)
Goddamn I love this.
This music makes my heart sing!
I"m on the brink today of writing something memorable, oh well.
This is the standard of "garage". The Stones have come close several times. However Paul is king of
Americana GARAGE.
Love that garage/cardboard box beat
LOOVE come on be my darlin' song . Greatness . Makes me grab my guitar and create. To write my own life in song.
Man, I couldn't hit the 'like' button fast enough.
on constant repeat in my car
I told you it was great!
I don't play it now. Was fopr form of comfort after moving out to a place where I don't know anyone for a while...Now just need the quiet for my own songs to form.
Thank You and ghost and Paul!
Great! many cool songs .
The bridge in Kentucky rising is so genius omg

Thank you for this.
How can I transfer this into my iTunes library??????? Been trying to find this for a couple of years, thank you from Australia! PW's solo efforts are my favourite discs of the last 25 years.

I agree, all his solo stuff is just quality shit. I like it more than the replacements stuff
+FortWarren Couldn't agree more. The only and only Westerberg release my ears seem to struggle with is 'Folker'. When I listen to it I have to wonder...
But it's only 48:04..........
thanks for sharing !

The best musical work of art ever produced. Whenever I feel like committing sucicide I put 49:00 on.
I was just thinking “this is the best music that’s ever been made”
Stupid touch screen, I may have accidentally flagged or liked a comment. Sorry if someone got a flag, didn't mean to. Thank you for the post...
Westerberg is just like Dylan. Except Paul is good. MATS.
🤣😂🤣
❤️❤️❤️
Dylan is amazing, you'll find out one of these days and it's gonna hit you like a ton of bricks! and Westerberg is amazing too! it's all good my man
Dylan’s the greatest ever, but Paul had the best band. Paul would agree.
@@seangiere8068 Except that Westerberg can write more than just about his divorce. I don't give two shits about Dylan's divorce.
I'd love the tracklist ghost.
There's a ghost I swear to God I saw it not just in black but in full colours
i guess they're his basement tapes .......

Actually, the "unknown female" kind of sounds like it could be his son. If so, he's definitely better at punk ala 41:00 ish. ;)
Westerberg has a grand tradition of shooting himself in the foot so that he doesn't have to prove to anyone how fast he can run. The Loneliness of the Long Distance Chart Topper.
However, w/ the scattershot 49:00, he is aware that his best efforts win the race everytime.
An online poll taken concludes that people hit the mute at 31:25 to prevent ear infection due to off-key warbling from unknown female. Westerberg's self-hatred is still unmatched. No medal awarded for that, son.
:)
No Buff in this one I know, unless were looking to get sued

Some one please tell me more..I'm a huge Paul fan. Where was this hiding?
In my understanding, this was released on iTunes as a single 48 minute, 5 second track at the price of a single track. There it was for all to have until the folks at Apple took a shit and removed it. It was another fine Westerberg moment ; being a punk and trying to piss someone off. Now if you want to listen to it, it's gonna be here. Perhaps one day he will re-release it, but I certainly won't be holding my breathe for that day to come.
The original release was 49 minutes but it included a Beatles excerpt. I think strawberry fields but not sure. Then the file was replaced with the excerpt removed. Hence the time discrepancy. I paid for the original but not sure where the mp3 file is.
@@HarveyWallbangerfly I don't think it was ever on iTunes; I recall it being a direct download for 49 cents. And I want to say there was an option to pay $5.49 if you chose.
Or something like that... I'm old.
@@ferrallc1 the original runtime (with the covers medley) is 43:55... which is why his next song was called 5:05 and was about dealing with fucking lawyers.
our hero, @bobstinsonsghost (RIP) tacked 5:05 to the end of this video.
You watch...Taylor Swift plugs everyone & plays w/everyone...(guest app.)...watch...acouple more "him's"...& she'll be singin' Westerberg or 'Mats tunes...watch...watch
...and no time markers. Thanks anyhow.
Sad but so would I. WEsterberg farting would be cool. But not so much echo.
