  • A Los Angeles bound metrolink serving Fullerton station, had some problems with the locomotive. Eventually two of the conductors walked back to the cab and did something and they finally took off.

When the F125 Accelerates, the propulsion motors almost sound like a DB Class 101 Electric Locomotive!

Most American AC power uses Siemens electronics

After seeing and hearing multiple F125s up-close at L.A Union Station, I think I'm finally starting to warm up to them! Yeah, they're unreliable, but they look and sound awesome! I still prefer the Chargers.

    Why the smoke

Its a diesel engine, that tier 4 crap just means less exhaust

Turbo lag also plays a huge part in the smoke output on throttle-up.

I’m still not a big fan of the F125’s; seriously, whomever designed the class’s body should be ashamed that they designed an ugly F unit; but their engines sound a little bit like the BR Class 68’s and that’s managed to soften my view of them a little bit.

Well these units and the Class 68s both use CAT C175 prime movers. The only difference is that the Class 68s have 16 cylinders, and the F125s have 20 cylinders. In fact, the F125 is basically an Americanized Class 68. They're kinda cousins in a sense. As for looks, I personally think they look great. They look way better than the SC44s. That being said, I am starting to warm up to the SC44s.

Well, but the traction motors alone almost sound like an Electric-Only DB Class 101 locomotive.

Yes they are fairly new, but have many issues. Too much tech on the stuff these days
