It’s beautiful! I love the color. Just a word of advise… those gate legs can collapse if someone kicks them just right while sitting down or getting up. If you’re putting expensive equipment on it, you might want to secure it under there with a removable peg or something so it can’t be kicked and drop your equipment. ( I speak from experience) lol❤️🤗🐝
Yessss! Sometimes I only need a little bit of paint in that color, and I don't want to go buy a huge thing of paint just for a little bit! :) Keep in mind your brush will need mineral spirits to clean up. :)
Turned out so beautiful! :) It's so great that your son is helping. My dad always let me take part in all kinds of jobs he did (that weren't dangerous or too smelly), and as an adult, I became a pretty competent person using my tools. My son is also interested in these things; I always let him watch. :) He's 7, so he can only help me by bringing me the things I ask for, but that's also great. :)
The fact that he wants to be involved, keep your son interested! I think my son's are so interested in video games it's hard to pull them away. But since my son wanted to help, in thinking I may try to get him to come help more often! I might have to "pay" him, but whatever it takes to get him involved! Lol
It was a lucky find! Typically, the ReStore is a little more expensive, so I was surprised this one was so affordable. Plus, it was in the back of the store, shoved in between some other tables. SCORE! Perfect for what I needed it to be: a place to hold my engraver!
Beautiful table! I've been thinking about refinishing my Grandmother's cedar chest, but I'm *so* afraid I'll ruin it. Maybe I'll pick something up from GW and give it a try first. Thanks for the inspiration!
That's exactly what I would tell you to do first! Get something you don't mind practicing on first. Maybe even a couple of projects. And then give your Grandma's cedar chest a nice makeover! :)
Trust newbies will be aware that it's easy to sand through veneer if you're not careful. Good you reminded people to not go too fast nor press too hard with the orbital sander.
Facts!! I refinished a top of a pretty vanity and made that very mistake! It totally "bleached" out the area of the veneer and wouldn't accept stain. It was terrible. I had to paint a flower over the top of it to disguise it! LOL
I know, me too. I don't think I've ever done the glossy. But I'm always fooling myself when I first see the glossy look before the satin dries. And I'm like, ahhhh....that might look nice. Lol.
Definitely! You know what's funny, (in not a funny way) is that when I started DIY'ing stuff yeeearrrs ago, I would never wear gloves and the stain would get all over my hands. I wore it like a badge of honor. Stupid me! I probably killed a few brain cells along the way. Thankfully, I learned the lesson to always protect the eyes, nose, and hands whenever possible!
Great job on the table Serena!! I love those fresh clean lines. Not 100% sure who the manufacturer is but, I've seen thsoe table refinshed before!! Perfect amount of shades at the end of video😂!! Hoping all is well, Dirty Jersey out!!
Yes!!! I had to do that once when I built my bathroom vanity and made a huge mistake by cutting too deeply when boring out the area for the hidden hinges. To cover it up, I used some of the red oak dust, mixed with wood glue, and it worked well!
@@ThriftDiving and your sander is fancy and collects it all. I love the videos. Just putting out a tip. No judging. You are amazing. Thank you for great content and inspiring us to do it ourselves
Thank you so much! :) I also noticed that you subscribed to me 3 years ago. You are awesome for sticking around for so long!!! Big thanks for hanging in there. And your profile pic of George Jefferson is hilarious. LOL
Love your videos and your shed. 😍I found if you need to fill a chip of veneer pick a colour of wood filler that is close to what the stain colour will be ie walnut. Then when dry dab a bit of clear coat on it to seal it. Then stain the rest of your piece. Then top coat the whole thing. I learned this the hard way. The stain absorbs into that wood filler like a sponge. Turns out way too dark. 🤦🏻♀️I did it while refinishing a wood counter top. But thankfully I figured out how to not do it again while refinishing a 110 year old dresser. 😮💨
That is an AWESOME tip!!! I want to try this again, trying to clear coat! You know, this tip reminds me of when staining wood and the end grains suck up a lot of the stain and turn darker. There is a similar trick that if you water down some wood glue and coat the end grains of the wood first, it prevents the end grains from being a lot darker! Thanks for letting me know that something similar to this exists for filling chipped veneer, too!!
Generally, one needs to leave the stain remover on longer than 30 minutes (more like 12-24 hours for maximum effect) and cover with a plastic sheet (a cut open trash bag will do). You did it the hard way and just wasted the CitriStrip which doesn't even work that well to begin with. Nice outcome either way.
The longer you leave it on, it definitely work better. I'll try that option next time: to cover it in plastic. I typically prefer to use QCS stripper, which I think works better and is safer. But thank you for this comment! I'll try leaving it on longer. Could be a great comparison in an upcoming video! :)
This is a Festool sander with a Festool vacuum attachment. It's on the pricey side of tools. But you can get a less expensive one like the one I have with RYOBI. I should be able to attach that to a shop vac, too. But I use the Festool because it has the HEPA filter and keeps my shed clean when I sand in here!
Love it, turned out well. I like the choice of table for the industrial machine to keep the space cozy and keep a zen like balance to your space.
That was a big worry for me: where could I keep the engraver?? The table find was perfect!
Your table looks amazing. I LOVE mid-century modern. Glad your son is learning to restore furniture. You make a great team.
Thanks so much!
Hello Sarina. Wonderful job on the table. It looks beautiful.🤗🤗🤗

Great advice!!!! Thank you, Deborah! I would NOT want that to happen. lol
@@ThriftDiving You’re most welcome, and it’s such an easy fix too. ❤️🤗🐝
You gave it a new life. So pretty.
Thank you!!!
Great work. Still loving your flowery roller blinds
Thank you! I do too! Surprisingly, they have held up well!!
It's a joy to watch you refinish furniture! 🤟🤟
Oh wow, what a nice compliment!! :) Thank you!
That spray paint in a cup tip, hot dog, great idea!!

Nice table! Lucky you have places to find such treasures.

I like the satin finish better than glossy. 👍

Thank you so much, Cynthia! :)
Love the table. I recently saw the video where they made their own wood putty out of the sawdust and wood glue and it was an identical match.

If you love refinishing furniture watch Angie from Transcend Furniture. She is a master at her craft.
Thanks for the recommendation, Letty!
Beautiful job💙

Is that a regular sander with a can vacuum attached?

at 5:23 all I am watching is the can of stain sloshing back and forth as she works the stain on the apron.. wide eyed.. holding breath... lol
HA!!! That was a stealthy move, huh?? LOL!
