Wow! Miles plays Berg--that would have been something; sadly he never did that project. He and Gil Evans discussed doing a Jazz treatment of Tosca in '76. It would have been their first project together in 8 years but unfortunately that never materialized either.
WHO else in the whole world would be creative enough to compose some music based on the call-and-response pattern that is pretty universal in all black churches?
@annabatarowicz i really don't wanna get into this, but after being hit in your head by police in front of the club you're headlining, or being pulled over in your ferrari because someone assumed you stole your 'masters' car, who really has race-problems in the first place? but like i said, let's enjoy his music and legacy
I think the whole black and white thing comes from the fact that Miles was born and raised in a time, when racism still was a dominant in the daily life of people in USA ...
Хотелось бы в переводе интервью услышать, любл ю творчество Майлза, прекрасный был человек, всегда интересен как личность, но не знаю английского.....Обладает бездонной харизмой
Miles playing a pimp on Miami Vice. 1. It was an acting gig (a new avenue for him) on one of the biggest shows on TV at the time & that was THE offer. 2. Yeah, it was kinda reinforcing the stereotypical view many white folk have of the black man but what power did he have to say 'not a pimp'? NONE- without getting bumped. 3. It was the best exposure he could get AND he got it. 4. Many kids, white & black found Miles from that show. I did. I bought TUTU & have been a fan ever since...job done.
I agree with all you said . The only thing I have issue with is , when someone says "white people" , or " black people" , it has the effect on the listener of including all people of the for mentioned group. I really dont think this was Miles intent , but to people who arent fully aware of his history , it does come across this way. Not that I think he gave a shit either way. The people who knew him , white or black , knew where he stood , Im sure.
I have to agree. I think the fact that people do take a generalized context on any issues of race is the real problem. This societal issue makes every mention of race some kind of incidiary cue to assume staunch - and mostly inaccurate - dismetrically opposed positions. Marginal critical thinking would inspire an understanding that most any comment about a group of people can never be taken to apply to each person in that group. No race can be characterized by one thing as a whole.
that is really funny, if only he could have heard the over compression of people like Brittany Spears etc to the point it sounds like they are getting screwed over the mic, most pop singing sounds that way really, all about attitude.
Miles didn't just PLAY music, he WAS music.
Miles in Miami Vice! Great Docu thanks for posting!
