@@uninvitedguest0 The SNXS case makes the watch look like it's a tall floating UFO. Despite the dial being amazing, most reviewers will still list the case as the big con the watch sadly has
Hi Alessandro. I just wanted to thank you for this video. I performed the same mod today and it worked like a charm. Could not have done it without your info. That helped me a lot.
This just shows how rare a unique idea is. I have had an snxs77 for a couple years and O just bought an snk361 because I loved the case shape, and I had the idea to see if I could swap the dials. Of course I have to check RUclips and wouldn't you know it, you've already done it 3 years ago haha
Every modern Seiko uses a 28.5mm dial. The only difference being crown position, that is 3 or 4 o’clock. I believe the movement spacers are different thicknesses which is preventing the case back from closing properly even though they are the same color. There is a gap in the movement spacer that needs to be precisely aligned with the crown tube where the stem goes and the movement will drop right in. You should also be wearing gloves or finger cots at the very least, have a small blower and Rodico for removing dust. You don’t want oils and acids from your hands on the dial or movement. If you simply place the movement dial up and then lower the case onto it while paying attention to the 12 o’clock position, things will align themselves. You made it a bit harder than need be but it worked anyway. Not bad for your first effort.
Thanks Steven for all the feedback. And yes, I figured out that the spacer was in fact thicker after I shot the video, and that's why it wouldn't fit depth-wise. You're completely right about finger cots... I was just too impatient, I wanted to make that mod for 3 weeks at least, waiting for the holiday season to finish in order to shoot this :) Thanks again!
@@redsox7897 no, you need to swap the movement spacers from one to the other because one of the spacers is about a millimeter or two thicker. The issue about aligning the spacer with the crown tube was getting it to drop into the case at all. Once that happens you just gently press down on the plastic spacer ring moving arond the circumference to make sure it's fully seated and then screw the case back on.
@@redsox7897 you can't take the movement out without the spacer, so no, you need to remove the dial and hands to be able to remove the spacer. But if you need to do that, just swap dial and hands and leave the spacer on the movement. But let's say you're upgrading the movement from a 7S26 to an NH36 aka 4R36. Then you need to remove dial and hands, then remove the spacer, swap day wheels for the 4 o'clock crown alignment, transfer everything over to the NH36 starting with the spacer dial and hands in that order. All these movements have the same ligne, they just need the correct spacer to properly fit into whatever case they will be installed.
I see I'm not alone in this thinking and I agree the 01V0 is one of the nicest Seiko 5 cases, especially for the more refined dress watch style dials! I woke up today subconsciously wondering about the possibility of swapping the dial in my SNXS79K, which hasn't even arrived yet, into a SNKL41J1 style case which I already have and love. Excellent and perfectly timed review, Alessandro! Because of you I picked up a lightly used SNK371 at a great price. If it can fit I think the sport style SNK371 blue and yellow dial would look sharp in the SNXS79 case a lot better, especially with a NATO or possibly rubber strap.
This was a very nice, relaxing video. Very nice little upgrade you've got there. I've modded my SKX013 with a sapphire crystal and an NH36 movement. Well worth it!
Alessandro: Pushing the movement back into the case. Me: Holds breath and doesn't move for the entire minute. It was probably the most intense moment of my life.
The SNXS spacer, although being black is actually the same depth as the normal grey spacer. The movement you have now put in the SNK case is now not flush with the caseback and could over time snap the stem.
Came back to this video just to say "WOW". I have been thinking about this mod and your video served as a preview. Went to my watchmaker and done and god it looks incredible in person. So much so that I've decided against buying a proper dress watch I was planning to buy for some upcoming events. Just needs sapphire, an updated Seiko movement and a bracelet now and it's a seriously killer watch.
Hi. I tried to do this mod yesterday after seeing your video, having a snxs79 and a snk l41, and ran into the same problem, the snk l41 spacer didn't went into the snxs79 case, and I thought i had to change the spacer, wich seems very daunting having to remove the hands, dial, day date wheels, plus the spacer wich is press fitted and hard to remove for me...so I gave up. But then I had another ideea, that worked easily...and that was to interchange the dials and hands, so now I have the snk l41 with the snx s79 dial and hands and viceversa. Worked a dream and I am happy that I can wear both watches.
I have done a similar mod of swapping different movements with the 7s26. Something to bear in mind is that 7S26 movements come in various variants of A, B and C. So my case was the spacer was different exactly like yours where I was swapping between A and C I think. To solve the issue of not being able to close the caseback I swapped the casebacks and followed the original movement with the same caseback and you will be able to close both.
Aaaaaah I completely forgot about that, you're right! I think the case back of the 01V0 case is better (thinner, better looking), so I don't mind if I can't close the SNXS79K's original dial. Thanks for sharing!
Hey would this be a good first watch? Also you got a link to that strap it’s beautiful I’m new to the watch game but I got a small wrist I preferable want 38mm and down if I can I want just a good everyday watch until I start a collection
The Slender Wrist yes it’s beautiful just found your channel form the modest man trying to get a nice everyday watch a beater watch than a dress watch but it looks so good with the suede strap 😍
Just a quick anecdote (which I think you already know), the 01V0 (SNKL) series cases, use a slightly thicker black spacer for the 7S26. I learnt the hard way when I bumped my modded Seiko 5, and the dial got became loose from the movement while still in the case - and the hour hand scratched the dial.
I'm not sure I personally see a big difference between the cases, but I am glad to know that this option is available and it was nice that the mod went smoothly!
Hey man...i also done exactly the same thing that you do...both my Seiko 5 SNK615 (Production year 2003 , Movement 7S26 B) & Brand New SNKL45 (Movement 7S26 C)...the dial from SNK615 looks really beautiful inside the case of SNKL45 (the same case that you put SNXS79 dial into) ... Now i really love my new "SNKL615". 😆😘
Tip: you should only open the watch when the humidity is 35% or less because temperature changes will cause fogging and the moisture can damage the movement. Check the local weather or run your air conditioner with max dehumidifier settings.
Addicted to your content! You’ve been a big help to me as like you, i have small wrists. Hope you can review a Longines Flagship Heritage as I’ve been eyeing that one for a while now but at 38.5mm (i think), it got me a bit hesitant to pull the trigger.
Thank you so much! I don't expect to review that watch unfortunately. 38.5 mm is biggish for a dress watch, but I rocked my 40 mm Certina no problem. It's all a matter of comfort and personal preference... Cheers!
So I finally did it. I bought a broken movement in a 01V0 case and liberated the SNXS from its ugly (IMHO) case. Super happy with the result! Thank you Timed Square for the idea and inspiration. Comments: It is possible to put the wrong crown and stem in the new watch, so listen to the man: use the stem from the case it came from. Also I had to find another video (from Long Island Watches) to see better the exact place to push in order to get the stem out.
How much does that suede nato strap costs? I make some similar handcrafted suede straps, but I'm not sure how many would be interested in those since I don't see many people wearing them.

It was so helpful thanks for this vid. I’m concerned now, planning to do the same with my snxs77 + snk357 bit i still want to use both of them. Im curious, how you closed the donor’s spinning back in the end.
I agree with you that that is the best case in my opinion on Seiko 5 watches but the other case usually comes with the better dials, better bracelet clasp (in my opinion) and better lug/strap size.

Great tutorial Alessandro, i have a question for you. is it possible to convert Seiko 5 SNXS79 (original case) hardlex crystals to sapphire? if yes, can you recommend us wich sapphire should i buy? thanks a lot
It's possible, but you need the tools and skills. I haven't searched which one you should buy - there are channels which go into a lot more detail when it comes to modding. Cheers!
I think there’s another Seiko 5 that has a thinner case back that makes the watch not sit high (SNX361) but I think it has a red second hand and black day and date. I’m debating btwn this and that model. I need to start learning how to fix or mid watches and get some tools, especially after just changing batteries at a cheap place that was a Seiko dealer of 40 years and getting a watch case scratched. I tried to tell them to be careful bc I like my watches in mint condition. He said he knows what he’s doing and I have no experience and already can tell what he was doing wrong for 49 years. He didn’t put a soft cloth on that thing that hold the watch while using the key thing to open the back. It was a old one that was made out of wood with no cloth be break the impact of the wood and polish metal around the crystal. I winder how many he knows what he’s doing watches he’s damaged. Oh and he sell Seiko and Casio too and I’m sure ahistorical the metal bands with the primitive wood watch holder that eats watch faces. Geeez!
how do we make sure the watch is at the right specification of water resistant ?? Is it that it need to change the brand new gasket inside ? Or it need other job to make sure it is at right water resistant specification? btw i am enjoying your video in ur channel , i had a seiko snk381 and i love it now by far . Keep it up 👍
Hey, after you do something like this (or every time you open the case back really), you have to take to someone who can pressure-test it. This is the only way to know if the gasket is still positioned properly and that the watch is water resistant. Thank you for the support!
Great result. There was a discontinued Seiko model which I can’t seem to find online anymore tha was a like an even more refined version of the Sarb033 with a thicker marker at 12 o clock - think it was a Brightz model. It was gorgeous- this mod reminds me that a little bit....
You must ALWAYS change the gasket on the caseback everytime it is opened. The lateral friction created when opening and closing the caseback just deforms the rubber seal. That's why the gasket is larger when you open the case.
No I didn't. There is a small scratch on the case that came from wearing the watch, and the scratch on the crystal... 🤷♂️I think it appeared when I got it back from repair, but I'm not 100% sure. And I don't know how / why watchmakers would do this. A bit of a mystery...
I'm sorry, I don't. I'm trying to find one that's close to this one online for you guys, but I haven't found it yet. I bought mine in a second hands watch shop...
Hey check out the SNK361. The dial looks more like the SNXS79 but has the case and bracelet of the SNK393! I think that is the perfect Datejust homage from seiko
Hey bro, take a look at the Seiko 5 SNKE87J1 (made in Japan for the Japanese domestic market only), which has almost the same dial of the SNXS79K and almost the same case of the SNK393 as well, with very subtle differences: solid black dial instead of sunburst grey, red second hand instead of a silver one and a 20mm case instead of 18mm. In my opinion it has a better look and a more legible dial, without the often distracting / confunsing effects of the sunburst, and of course with a more practical lug width of 20mm, for a wider variety of straps and bracelets (pun intended). The case even allows to fit the standard SKX013K Jubilee bracelet on it. The only mod I'd do to that watch would be changing its red second hand for a chromed one to dress it up a bit. The SNKE87J1 case number is #03B0 and the SNK393 is #01V0. instagram.com/p/BVodzMclb9j/
Very interesting, but if I decide to do this I'll probably chicken out and have my local watch repair shop do it for me. I can give the bad half of the "Frankenwatch" to my son, who will dig having any automatic watch as a knock-around.
You're right the snk361 dial has the same 'problem' with the snk393 when you play with light. So your modification is superb! Waiting for the next one...
Greetings from Greece ! Your video was very fun ! I also want to put an orange minutehand to my NY0040 as my first mod :) , because I have a small wrist and NY0040 is my perfect size for me !
If the dial is touching the chapter ring and the stem fits properly you are in all the way. That is wierd it wouldnt fit. Those are the same movements and the same movement spacers.
Hey Slender Wrist, there is something about Seiko 5 line that i'd like to ask you: is it possibile to remove somehow the "5" logo on the dial ? Some model are really goodlooking but that "5" printed under "seiko" really turn me off...
Hey, I don't know but I guess you could... only to reveal some kind of hole. I actually like the 5 logo, it makes the top of the dial look more balanced and "full". It's like Seiko's Rolex crown - whatever that means. Let's see the beauty in that 5: it's applied, with a lot of details, and is pretty small on this one...
I must be unlucky or you and other RUclipsrs are lucky. I changed a battery on a quartz watch and it stopped a week later. I brought it to the Jewler and he said there was dust in the mouvement. The same scenario played out on me again on a different quartz watch. So l never take the case back off any watches anymore both automatics and Quartz. Modifying a watch is never to be in my future. Continued luck. Cheers
Personally, I would recommend to take a small sheet of cling wrap and wrap it over the case back before unscrewing. Fold the sheet twice or thrice to have a thicker sheet and it'll help prevent any scratches in case of a slip. Edit: words
this mod makes no sense to me , the cases nearly look the same ... why swap it ? at the end you have one watch = not closing , no water resistance on both , losing warranty on both and one watch which looks like the other before ... even the movements are the same ..
Can you imagine if Seiko made the SNXS with the SNK case, a proper solid link bracelet, sapphire crystal, and 4R35 movement? I’d gladly pay $350 for it. The dial is both simple and amazing.
I agree if diver’s watch maybe. Check out the sarbs they’re like $500. And it’s already increased because it’s discontinued. So it was cheaper than that before.
Jerald Mamaradlo yeah I own a sarb and an original cocktail time. Both have 6R15 movements and i paid $350 and $400 for them. So delivering a high quality watch with the 6R15 for a sub $500 price is easily doable for them. They just choose not to actually do it. As much as I love Seiko, I feel like they under deliver sometimes, esp on their newer releases. They seem to have some profit margin % in mind and don’t want to deviate from that number by any means, so they cut corners (4R35 instead of a 6R15, hollow end links, shitty clasp, etc). They could absolutely dominate the entry level (sub $500) price point and destroy all these fashion brands, but they make some really stupid product design and marketing choices that inhibit that unfortunately. I feel like all the microbrands that’re popping up will continue to eat into their market share over the coming years.
I think you can avoid the smooches in the movement and dial by using gloves although not so sure about how difficult would be to manipulate with them and use some pump to blow any dust. I've seen on other videos the use of a rubber ball to help adjust the case back again. Anyway, I think you did very good being the first and second try same time. 👍
Nicee :D Looks superb and super easy when you do it. Im fascinated by this watch now. I would like to see one video with lume in all light conditions of this watch :D Does anyone know where can i find this watch for cheapest ? There are other variants 73 and 77 on creationwatches but not 79 :/ and on most other sites price is around 110-120 $

Thank you for the support!
is this works with my seiko SNK375K?? looks the same to me
Enjoyed your experimental mod. 🥳🥳
Which nato strap do you have on your Seiko SNXS79K? :)
Some unbranded nato I got in a second hand shop :/ I really have to find one that looks like it, so that you guys can enjoy it!
The Slender Wrist did you able to find where we can get that nato strap?
Hi, the 79k is actually about 140€ on Amazon is it a good price?
Looking forward to this video!
Can you do something about the swallowing sounds? It’s kinda gross sounding. Aside from that, great job on the mod!
Great result. There was a discontinued Seiko model which I can’t seem to find online anymore tha was a like an even more refined version of the Sarb033 with a thicker marker at 12 o clock - think it was a Brightz model. It was gorgeous- this mod reminds me that a little bit....
Thank you. I think that you're talking about the SDGM003 - the cases look very similar indeed!
Nicely done! Reminds me of my SARB033!
what is the tool you use?
You must ALWAYS change the gasket on the caseback everytime it is opened. The lateral friction created when opening and closing the caseback just deforms the rubber seal. That's why the gasket is larger when you open the case.
Interesting. Good job, and thanks for sharing
Ziet er top uit👌🏽, en voor alles is er een eerste keer.
What is the difference between these cases?
The shape and fit is quite different. Check out my reviews, you'll see what I mean :) Cheers!
First comment. Did you scratch the case while removing the bracelet?
No I didn't. There is a small scratch on the case that came from wearing the watch, and the scratch on the crystal... 🤷♂️I think it appeared when I got it back from repair, but I'm not 100% sure. And I don't know how / why watchmakers would do this. A bit of a mystery...
Hi do you have the info on the leather nato?
I'm sorry, I don't. I'm trying to find one that's close to this one online for you guys, but I haven't found it yet. I bought mine in a second hands watch shop...
how long the lume last?
Hey check out the SNK361. The dial looks more like the SNXS79 but has the case and bracelet of the SNK393! I think that is the perfect Datejust homage from seiko
also you can just change back from7s26-3200 or 7s26-3160 case and it become same thickness
and it will be more as rolex oyster with metal back )
Hey bro, take a look at the Seiko 5 SNKE87J1 (made in Japan for the Japanese domestic market only), which has almost the same dial of the SNXS79K and almost the same case of the SNK393 as well, with very subtle differences: solid black dial instead of sunburst grey, red second hand instead of a silver one and a 20mm case instead of 18mm.

The leftover dial would look great in an SKX case. It would be an über Rolex explorer homage.
Mmmm very interesting :)
Very interesting, but if I decide to do this I'll probably chicken out and have my local watch repair shop do it for me. I can give the bad half of the "Frankenwatch" to my son, who will dig having any automatic watch as a knock-around.
Just finished up making a sandwich and now I have something to watch! I hope this swap ended up working!
How was the sandwich? :)
Why you didnt buy the snk357?
I had the SNK393 already. But any watch with a 01V0 case does the trick!
@@TimedSquare I mean it has almost the same dial with the moded one.Anyway, you made a beautiful watch!
You're right the snk361 dial has the same 'problem' with the snk393 when you play with light. So your modification is superb! Waiting for the next one...
@@vicvictoras6071 the 357 has the ugly 5 all over the face this one doesnt
Greetings from Greece ! Your video was very fun ! I also want to put an orange minutehand to my NY0040 as my first mod :) , because I have a small wrist and NY0040 is my perfect size for me !
Great video! I'd like to give this a go with my own Seiko 5. Any idea if the SNK393 case is the same as the SNK361? It looks very similar!
Thank you! And yes, that's the one :)
If the dial is touching the chapter ring and the stem fits properly you are in all the way. That is wierd it wouldnt fit. Those are the same movements and the same movement spacers.
Had the same thing with a snko and a snke case
You look arabic brother, where are you from originally?
Hey man, 100% Italian roots!
@@TimedSquare That makes sense. Are you mistaken for an Arab often?
You are veeeery patient :) I couldn't stay as calm as you while doing that mod.
I'M NOT CALM! 😂
Wow! More suspense than Alfred Hitchcock!
I want to mod the crystal to a sapphire
Smart move ;) thanks for sharing man.
Cheers
Einfach den grauen und den schwarzen Werkshaltering mit tauschen... und alles ist schick.
Personally, I would recommend to take a small sheet of cling wrap and wrap it over the case back before unscrewing. Fold the sheet twice or thrice to have a thicker sheet and it'll help prevent any scratches in case of a slip.
Edit: words
VERY smart! I guess I should have done a video asking you guys for advice BEFORE shooting this one :)
this mod makes no sense to me , the cases nearly look the same ... why swap it ? at the end you have one watch = not closing , no water resistance on both , losing warranty on both and one watch which looks like the other before ... even the movements are the same ..
Each to his own, but I own both cases and would say they are fairly different.
Can you imagine if Seiko made the SNXS with the SNK case, a proper solid link bracelet, sapphire crystal, and 4R35 movement? I’d gladly pay $350 for it. The dial is both simple and amazing.
10000% agreed!
Sarb035 sarb033 6r15 movement
Jerald Mamaradlo if they put the 6R15 in there they’d charge $700 for it lol
Next you should put a sapphire crystal in it.
wow it is a "havier" watch from the two
i replace the hands on my snkl41 with the same hands thats on the snxs79
Nicee :D Looks superb and super easy when you do it. Im fascinated by this watch now. I would like to see one video with lume in all light conditions of this watch :D Does anyone know where can i find this watch for cheapest ? There are other variants 73 and 77 on creationwatches but not 79 :/ and on most other sites price is around 110-120 $
Give you a thumbs up and glad you achieved your goal , but I have to say never laughed so much cheers shane uk 🇬🇧
