Thank you. I had some parts I donated from my previous build but my nephews Dad (my big bro) funded the whole thing. I brought the experience I have with protégés
Thank you. This isn’t the ideal year. This one is 99 or 2000 and lower without butterfly valve. The 2001 plus manifold are hard to find in California without the butterfly valve. Flow was seem the same. I have the 2001 plus right now and Im not sure who measured the interior runners but the ports looks the same size. The runner are thicker on the older manifold which make slightly heavier. The injector are seated closer to head. The main draw back is having to run the 626 fuel rail. We were able to retain msp injector. The main goal was to delete the butterfly valves, add some more flow, and a mild wire tuck. @ChairsoftHawaii
Hey buddy I hope you been great !! , when you put the intake did you have a lot of turbo surge ? , I have a front mount intercooler, injen intake and hks bov but I have a lot of turbo surge I don’t know why
Thank you I’ve been well! Finally back into the Mazdaspeed game myself. The with factory manifold it was fine. If you can reach out to me on my instagram or Facebook with a picture of your engine maybe the issue can be is where your pulling the vacuum from
Awesome welding! I plan on doing similar mods to mine. I was wondering if you had any issues with hesitation/bogging under acceleration when building boost like mine does ( before modification)? My MSP is completely stock aside from after market intercooler piping due to cracked OEM parts.
Thank you for the the kind words. The right mods will make the mazdaspeed protege a really fun car Vacuum leaks and spark plugs can cause hesitation. My recommendation is smoke tests for vacuum leak. -Mazdaspeed protege idle roughly at -21 to -22 without vacuum leaks at operating temperature -Spark plug gap recommend at .028 to .032. Most use cooper plugs. 8 psi or less Bkr6e. 9 psi or more you will want a step colder plugs Bkr7e. Also check you knock sensor if the black insulator melted I usually recommend replacing it with an OEM knock sensor. Hope this help.
@@MetalReleaseWelding I appreciate the reply It's idling at ~21 hg under operating temp. I fixed a vacuum leak previously so my next bet is to change the spark plugs. Then check or change the knock sensor. Thanks for the help!
For this build it was the factory mazdaspeed protege manifold and the factory turbo that was rotated/clock down. Helps shorten the intercooler piping a bunch and cleans up the bay
@@MetalReleaseWelding no worries thanks for getting back. I'm glad there are still MSP owners out there. Let me know if you want Racing Seats. I'd rather have OEM seats. Let me know if you want to trade. I'm in SD.
@@wibuwe that’s awesome. I need more local Mazdaspeed buddies. are you on Facebook or instagram so I can private message some pictures. This msp I bought has some really clean seats and may be interested in a trade since I plan to track this mazdaspeed.
Hello sorry for the delayed response. No check engine light. The protege is a maf based car so to run a bov to atmosphere you have to relocate the maf onto the intercooler cold pipe the one connecting to the throttle body. You want the maf about 10 to 12” inches down on the intercooler cold pipe from the throttle body and you want place the bov 10 to 12” inches down from the maf on the intercooler cold pipe. You either the the intake temp sensor dangle like most done or install into the intake. It’s running a tial QR which can been recirculated but it’s easier to setup the maf relocate
@@angelreinaldoacevedoreyes7758 thank you glad I can help! I will have more updates on this build it’s my nephews car and hopefully soon when I get more space. I’ll start building another protege for myself!
Man I wish I had you for an uncle lol, nice build!

Glad to see new protege content!keep it up!
Thank you! Will have more coming
I miss my mazdaspeed familia only less then 1500 made that year. Mine hard the callaway turbo kit. It pulled hard.
You guys used the wrong 626 manifold! That one has smaller ports and you had to use the 626 fuel rail. Still a nice looking car! Goodnwork

What turbo and manifold did you use?
For this build it was the factory mazdaspeed protege manifold and the factory turbo that was rotated/clock down. Helps shorten the intercooler piping a bunch and cleans up the bay
Is that a greddy exhaust for a mp5?
No this was a greddy muffler from a 2002 to 07 wrx. It’s a 3in 80 mm inlet.
Greddy evo2 catback system for protege5 is great setup!
Random question but would you want to sell the OEM intake that you took off for this build? 😅
I just purchase myself a mazdaspeed protege. I maybe have one available here soon. Sorry for the delayed response
