My guess on why a lot of the newer releases seem more "plain" (personally find them nicer than a lot of printed ones) is because classic, old school and gothic types of lolita pieces are more popular in japan (probably in the rest of asia too) are more in demand to be able to be used as daily wear, while sweet lolita just kinda went to the sidelines or only new lolita fashion wearers are getting them from what i seen
I was introduced to lolita in 2013, so it makes sense that my personal style is a lot more modern! I actually really enjoy the simpler cuts as they tend to be a bit more wearable for everyday to me :)
I still really like Angelic Pretty as a brand, but I stick mostly to buying older dresses from them, second-hand. Nothing against their newer releases or anything, I’m just super nostalgic for their older style because those are the dresses I loved back when I was just interested in the fashion but couldn’t afford to buy anything yet (high school age)
Just my opinion!! But I feel like the quality has been dropping these days. Maybe it’s because of the times and prices of fabric have rised along everything else... I just hope they’re not in trouble financially and can improve again in the future :/ The lack of custom lace is really bothering me. Idk it’s one of the things I’ve always loved about them and didn’t mind paying extra for. Also I own several polyester prints so this isn’t about them in general, but I think that latest cat print looks atrocious. I would have liked the muted colors if everything didn’t blend together like that. As it is it just looks misprinted or like it went through the washer too hard and bled all over itself. Not great.
Yeah the moment I saw those first few dresses I was immediately reminded of world current economic crisis. Someone else suggestes in the comments that classic lolita is on the rise in asia, but they just look a lot cheaper.
So I've only started collecting Lolita pieces in the last six months, but by coming to the party late I missed my chance at what is now my dream dress - AP's Moonlight Castle JSK, that released last August. There's just something so dreamy about the colorways for that print. Though I suppose I'm not missing much because personally I kind of want to avoid brand if I can, as well being a plus-sized person AP doesn't really cater to me :/
looked up the piece you mentioned and accidentally came across a piece called Moonlight Forest.. I think that might be MY dream dress... if it were in my size. I feel your pain.
I got involved in lolita around 2014-15. Loved and still love the OTT sweet in the black/pastel colorway. That's still the majority of my wardrobe. This year I'm finally altering my entire AP collection to fit me properly. I spent years being too afraid to alter because it would decimate their resale value. I don't regret my decision for a second!
I just love the Lady cat room JSK, I want to buy the mint one so bad. It's looks so good, I prefer more plain dresses, and the faded colors are nice. (I'm actually gonna buy it, I had the chance to try it on in Angelic Pretty Paris and I'm saving for it, amazing JSK!! It looks way better irl than in picture tho, would have never thought about buying it if i hadn't seen it irl)
I got Happy Garland and the shirring is sooooooo generous in the JSK. I don't fit a lot of AP anymore, but Happy Garland JSK, Cream Cookie JSK rerelease, and Toy Doll Box JSK rerelease are actually pretty comfy on me!
I use to love AP and be obsessed with collecting all brand. but to be honest I really haven't been liking APs new designs. I love the re-releases but haven't liked anything that's come out recently. I just see no reason to buy this brand that isn't making any new prints that I like, when I can find much cuter prints from taobao brands for much less.
I'm a newer lolita who's a fan of AP's 2010s sweet. They're just so iconic. I tend to spend a lot of time on just the AP section of secondhand sites. I agree that most of their new stuff is very plain and serious, and even the whimsical prints end up as all-over prints. I heard the market is different in Japan vs. overseas, but I know I'm not alone in missing the 2010s sweet era.
I have always been too big for AP, so I've always just sorta enjoyed it from afar, but that said, I unironically love that leopard print. If they released it as a skirt I could fit in, I think you could do something really cool working it into a punk lolita coord or even try to do a rockabilly (rockalita?) inspired look.
Newer AP definitely does not speak to me anymore. I never really bought any lolita but have admired it from a distance for well over a decade now. I personally was always more into the gothic side of things but still liked the sweet designs. I really don't like a lot of the prints right now and I've felt that was for some years now. I think some smaller brands definitely are better right now and of course they often actually offer sizes.
So I'm searching specifically for dresses that look like old school lolita, when the petticoat was rare and wigs didn't exist lol I just love the look and it's so nostalgic, it's what filled my internet experience as a kid.
i've known about lolita since about 2014/2015, but only started building my own wardrobe this past November- i still don't really know how i feel about AP, some of their pieces i'm not big on & some i LOVE, but if i had to pick a year range, most i like are from 2008 & i'd pick a range of 2008-2014/2015. i know that's quite broad (6-7 years), but i find i like less and less of their releases the further from 2008 you go '^ ^
Melody Toys were actually re-released twice in a short time! In year 2020 (when I fell in love with the print) and in 2021 before Christmas. I couldn't believe it.
I started wearing the fashion in 2016 and my first dress was directly from AP USA. And a bit ironically, I don't like anything AP has released since then. My wardrobe is 100% AP, but mostly from 2009-2014. I miss cotton and true glitter prints (not just the glitter dot fabric). I actually knew about lolita in 2010 and I really wish I had started back then so I could have lived through my favorite era. I'm honestly kind of depressed that I don't see AP going back to the style I love, and I only look forward to the elusive MTOs.
On leopard print and lolita: what about Lisa Frank style OTT? Seems like it's be fun to put together (and find someone else to wear it). The first brand that made me stop and go "Ooooooo want" was Moi Meme Moitie, and they continue to do that. Although, there's also the accompanying thought that I could totally make that silhouette, but nabbing that particular print or lace would be a pain. Ever seen something and thought you could make it? Or a better version of the item?
I really hope that in the future I will be able to buy something from Angelic Pretty because their products are so expensive. They aren’t necessarily my favorite brand but I just want to have a bag or an accessory from them.
Hi 🍓 new sweet loilta I fell in love with AP due to the old-ish like era Milky Planet, Sugar Carnival, but also the “new” era like Honey Cake, and Fancy Candy. But like you said because of there one-sizes so I hope in the future that AP can have more plus sizes
Size issues are terrible. I bought a different brand's cutsew a while ago because the max measurements were just under mine. It didn't fit at all. Thought it was a me problem, but my spouse (who is the skinniest size you can possibly be before special ordering clothes) couldn't fit in it either.
I've never really been a big fan of Ap but as a lolita I've always felt obligated to be educated on the popular brands even if they aren't my style and I feel like the lack of size inclusiveness just not something I'd put my money into as they don't look like they are willing to change with the times.
Japan and the rest of Asia are roughly 98% of where APs sales come from. The western market is just a drop in the bucket, they don't care about it. I agree you shouldn't put your money into a brand that doesn't care about you.
I discovered lolita fashion and Angelic Pretty in around 2014 I think, but this year I actually got my first Angelic Pretty piece. It's the Magic Princess OP in blue which I bought from a friend who wasn't that into that piece anymore, and now I have it on display on my dress form in my room
Been in the fashion since 2010. While I feel like I tend to gravitate more towards those older pieces/prints that I remember seeing when I first started (and were too broke to afford), I feel like I still vibe with the modern pieces as well. I love a lot of the prints from 2018, like British Bear and Sweet Lacy Basket.
Okay hear me out...the ivory Rebecca Leopard OP is actually on my dream dress list because I work reception at a cat hospital and could wear it to work, and the belt is detachable and I could use it with Renaissance gear 😅 I love the versatility
I always preferred BTSSB simply because I like kumakumya and usakumya a lot more than the lyrical bunnies and I like more fairy tale prints than the more "kawaii" prints (I still love them dont get me wrong but baby does more whimsical fairy tale themes TwT) Also baby dresses are definitely much comfier, most recent collection I got was kumya twinkle cosmetics and its absolutely wonderful
I absolutely love fashion and lolita is one of the styles I like the most. Angelic pretty is one of the brands I hear about the most but I've never bought from them, I like more sweet designs and I dislike the colour yellow. Recommendations for pieces I could look into from them?
i'm a bit late but i recommend having a look on lolibrary! it's a pretty good database of most lolita releases and you can filter by brand, colour, motif/pattern etc :>
I love AP Paris' tiktok! Mila de Blois is my favorite employee there, she also has a tiktok where she shows her daily outfits and I follow religiously lol
Thanks for introducing me to my new dream dress! (Jessica Leopard in the pink color way) I love how campy & high femme it is! Sux that only the grey colorway is available on AP & secondhand sites...😥
Sizing with brands is such a problem, my favourite brand is innocent world and they are even worse with sizing than ap. Some of their dresses are just so small it makes me sad
I don't remember the years of lolita as I got out of it for quite a while and just got back in. But I loved the more simple prints and velvet for sure. I had a radiant chandelier in wine which I sold hoping to find the black. Puppet Circus was my ultimate dream dress which I will sadly never have
You got twinkle mermaid!!!!! I completely thought you were still looking for it. Sometimes when I hunt dresses I still keep an eye out for twinkle mermaid for you lol
"getting angelic pretty pieces can be really expensive and really stressful" Moi-meme-Moitie: *am I a joke to you?* lol no, but seriously Lor I feel you on this. thanks for sharing
I vibe with AP's 2010's era releases, there are 4 prints that I want and I have 3 out of 4 and that's all I'd really ask for from AP, I like the fun and fantastical prints that were filled with so much imagination and detail. If I could get my hands on the 4th print without spending an egregious amount of money I would, but it is almost non-existent and I refuse to put out the cash, so I am happy with my 3. I am more focused on Indie brands or independent shops now and I don't even care about AP jewelry or blouses. Head bows maybe, OTKS sometimes, I might have two OTK/tights, but otherwise I can get great quality, lovely designs, and the sweetness and fantastical whimsy of what I like elsewhere.
Hi! I’m new to Lolita and angelic pretty was the very first thing I found researching. I only have an Alice girl dress and two off brands but I dream of AP! I hope I can get a full AP coord someday
While I like a lot of the dresses AP does, none of them are in my size without altering them and I'd frankly rather not alter a dress at that price already. So I really don't look at them ever, they occasionally pop up in my Instagram feed though. :/ If I'm going to pay that price, I'd rather support others who do make my size. v.v Still bummed I missed Twinkle Journey from Meta.
i heard that AP has new designers now or something and they had to cut costs to maintain their profit margin. that being said idk. i would think they would still be worth the price. making clothes is... there's so much that goes into it, labor and cost wise
I've loved lolita for over 10 years now but it's always been something I've admired from a far. I bought an Angelic Pretty salopette skirt awhile ago from a friend and I love it but don't really style it properly in a lolita way, more a fairy kei way. But I actually treated myself to a second lolita piece recently, also AP, and it is actually Happy Garland so I found it quite funny when you mentioned it. Now I'm working on building up a proper co-ord for it and I'm so excited to finally dress in Lolita
Tbh I've never been super into AP stuff since I dress more gothic/classic. The only prints of theirs that I'm really into are Mercator Antique Shop, Holy Wolf, and Ghost Bride, but since I'm plus size with a big bust I'd only go for them if I found them for a really good price since I'd for sure have to alter them.
I'm so glad I'm not alone in being baffled by Little House. When I first saw the op on the AP Paris website I couldn't stop laughing. How do you mess up gingham???? Look up AP's Whipped Gingham op (from 2008 I think) and despair. I'm sure the people who bought it will make it look fantastic but I think it's beyond my skills.
I recently purchased Moco Moco Bunny’s (secondhand). I haven’t received it yet. I’ve been in lolita for almost 6 years now and have a large closet of mostly Innocent World. I only have one other AP dress-Dolly Cat. I am really not sure what spoke to me about Moco Moco Bunny’s, I can’t tell. Was it the pompom hem? The bunny tag at the bodice? Simply the shade of sax they used? Anyway, I’d love to hear your opinion on the print.
The AP aesthetic is too pastel and pink for me. But I can appreciate their products. The only dress I’m interested in from their brand is British Bear.
the Little House OP is kinda giving scarecrow to me... like if you wanted to do scarecrow but lolita (go as a team of 4 all wizard of oz themed??) I actually like the leopard print dress bc it is too much lol. it's like foxy grandma and that's my one of my ideal aesthetics
I love angelic pretty as a brand - a lot of my lolita wardrobe came from angelic pretty pieces with some baby pieces ranging from 2009 to mid 2010s. The most recent AP piece I've purchased was Rose Museum. I'm a bit impulsive when it comes to buying main pieces especially if it catches my eyes. But honestly, after Rose Museum... nothing really did :/ Taobao brands and indie brands have improved so much since 10+ years ago, I've found myself browsing those more than Japanese Brand. Day Dream Carnival and Musee du Chocolat are some of my favorites and I wish they would go back to those sorts of designs. I'm still hunting older dream dresses - recently got Dolly Cat... now to find Marine Kingdom - I regret not buying it when it was released now.
AP seems like they're expanding their styling/design. Too many weird, non-AP like designs. I don't really wear AP unless they're releasing retro/vintage styled dresses. I'm a Meta stan so the weird stuff wasn't that shocking, but AP executed it so very poorly. Look at the AP map print they had... it looked like someone made with materials from Jo-Ann's.
I find it really interesting that one pf the reasons Lor points out as to why she doesn't follow AP anymore is that it's stressful to get pieces. I can see what she means, but I also feel like AP is one of the easiest brands to find dresses from. Sure, there is a lot of demand, but a lot of offer too. If you fall in love with a specific Taobao brand dress long after it's release I feel like it would be really hard to find anyone selling it. It's also funny, because I feel that exact way about BTSSB. I specifically love some prints with Usakumya, but every time one comes out I know they are gonna be sold out super fast and then they are gonna pop up on second hand market, but none will be in the price range I'm willing to spend so I'll just be like: "Won't even bother." Cool video
As someone who doesn't really care for pastel sweet peace's, my style is bit more all over not tied to much to one era. Like give me more chocolate rosette, astro regimen, loyal rosette, babydoll, noblesse oblige and Kaiseki in waves stuff
Yep the size thing is such a problem I don't even look at the ops at all😥 Also unfortunately even a lot of indie brands leave out shoulder measurements such a problem for me as my shoulders are about an 1.5 inch bigger than usual for my other measurements so finding blouses is a pain ahh after awhile I give up looking I'm sure more blouses than dresses include shoulder measurements but even regular brands(tommy Hilfiger, nine west)botton ups don't include them😭
AP is very much not in my size range, but i still have a soft spot for their early 2010s era as they too were the first brand i learned about via your SLS videos! i've also departed from being such a hard fan of sweet, but if i could, i would love to have the milky planet print on my wall 😍
No one's really talked about it but the cheetah motif with flowers could be fun in a kitschy sort of way. Add some betsey Johnson jewelry bag and accessories that mix and match and it could be a fun time. But I think I would have to go that route unless I did it punk.
little house gives me stress because it evokes feelings of swing dancing dresses but the gingham and puffy sleeves also remind me of anne of green gables
A lot of AP doesn't appeal to me its either too much going on or not enough going on but I did get Toys Museum last year after I found out that terrible bib thing was removable it was just the right amount of stuff going on and the color wasn't too bright for my taste
When I was a kid I was OBSESSED with this one almost mustard yellow dress with deers on. The pattern was dark purple, green and brown... Does anyone remember it? I really want to see it again for the nostalgia!
I’m not totally sure, but Innocent World’s “Animals of the Forest” series sounds close! Have you tried searching with the “reindeer/deer/Bambi” tag on Lolibrary? Good luck on your search! ^^
@@aurin-clover Thanks for your help, I managed to find it! The brand was correct but the dress name is Forest Harvest Festival. I don't know why I liked it so much when I was younger tbh, it's not the best looking dress hehe.... Thank you!
So I’ve been out of the lolita scene for YEARS, but the era I know the best is between 2010-2013 which I agree was a great time period. I plan on stocking my new wardrobe with items from that era with some new trends to bring it into 2022
Hi! i bingewatched ur Fixing your coordinates playlist, and towards the end u mention keeping the series up, but no longer calling it "fixing" your coords. I'm not finding another similar playlist on ur RUclips tho, am i missing it? What titel would these videos have now? Or has it not started yet, since ur "fixing coords" only went up to 24 (and u said u wanted to stop at 25)? Am really enjoying ur videos!

Honestly I need that Hot Topic Kuromi dress...
Update: I bought the dress.
I wore lolita from 2003 to 2008/2009, then returned in 2017 and had a "wtf where has my lolita gone" moment because the aesthetic changed so much.
you speak to me from the soul. exactly like me
the first “bodyline” dress NEEDS a thick waist tie or something- lol
I still really like Angelic Pretty as a brand, but I stick mostly to buying older dresses from them, second-hand. You got twinkle mermaid!!!!! I completely thought you were still looking for it. Sometimes when I hunt dresses I still keep an eye out for twinkle mermaid for you lol
"getting angelic pretty pieces can be really expensive and really stressful"
Moi-meme-Moitie: *am I a joke to you?*
lol no, but seriously Lor I feel you on this. thanks for sharing
:/ If I'm going to pay that price, I'd rather support others who do make my size. v.v Still bummed I missed Twinkle Journey from Meta.
me toooooo
i heard that AP has new designers now or something and they had to cut costs to maintain their profit margin. that being said idk. i would think they would still be worth the price. making clothes is... there's so much that goes into it, labor and cost wise
Love your coord! You look soooo pretty!🌸
“Plain” classic, more muted prints are rlly in trend in Japan rn
the Little House OP is kinda giving scarecrow to me... like if you wanted to do scarecrow but lolita (go as a team of 4 all wizard of oz themed??)
I actually like the leopard print dress bc it is too much lol. it's like foxy grandma and that's my one of my ideal aesthetics
OINGO BOINGO REFERENCE MY BELOVED
Lor realizing bodyline was actually keeping up with the latest AP trends
OH I remember an old video I think it was Dresses iv sold video and you had mentioned that dress toy fantasy and that you regretted it Lol!
My favorite AP dresses is both polka dot chocolate and wrapping ribbon in mint.
I have the JSK Little hause from AP in Pink. I realy love it. One of my dream dresses is Lovely Toybox in Pink from AP
Got the Oingo Boingo reference! :)
i didnt expect to be so early
Haha! I have Jewel Leopard and it looks a lot cuter and less tacky in person. I usually try to style mine in a more hime kind of way.
I specifically love some prints with Usakumya, but every time one comes out I know they are gonna be sold out super fast and then they are gonna pop up on second hand market, but none will be in the price range I'm willing to spend so I'll just be like: "Won't even bother."
Cool video
As someone who doesn't really care for pastel sweet peace's, my style is bit more all over not tied to much to one era.
Like give me more chocolate rosette, astro regimen, loyal rosette, babydoll, noblesse oblige and Kaiseki in waves stuff
Lovely?
hello i'm a lawyer
🤣 the comedy is SO good
Yep the size thing is such a problem I don't even look at the ops at all😥
Also unfortunately even a lot of indie brands leave out shoulder measurements such a problem for me as my shoulders are about an 1.5 inch bigger than usual for my other measurements so finding blouses is a pain ahh after awhile I give up looking I'm sure more blouses than dresses include shoulder measurements but even regular brands(tommy Hilfiger, nine west)botton ups don't include them😭
AP is very much not in my size range, but i still have a soft spot for their early 2010s era as they too were the first brand i learned about via your SLS videos! i've also departed from being such a hard fan of sweet, but if i could, i would love to have the milky planet print on my wall 😍
I was a Lolita Roast and Toast back on Saturday and I thought of Lovely Lor
No one's really talked about it but the cheetah motif with flowers could be fun in a kitschy sort of way. Add some betsey Johnson jewelry bag and accessories that mix and match and it could be a fun time. But I think I would have to go that route unless I did it punk.
12:50 looks exactly like sylveon!
I haven't gotten a single thing from any brand because I can't find my size or its way too much money
little house gives me stress because it evokes feelings of swing dancing dresses but the gingham and puffy sleeves also remind me of anne of green gables
A lot of AP doesn't appeal to me its either too much going on or not enough going on but I did get Toys Museum last year after I found out that terrible bib thing was removable it was just the right amount of stuff going on and the color wasn't too bright for my taste
The little house one I feel like might be cute as a Dorothy from the wizard of oz cosplay
Way to much polyester with AP….honestly it looks really cheap now. Really liked back in the day when they used cotton.
Huh.
@@thegayestgoth What's confusing? ahaha
Agreed. BTSSB kept up with quality materials and honestly, prints as well. AP kinda not so much.
You mentioned taobao a few times and as a taobao lolita I'm really curious what are your favourite brands and what pulls you to them. :)
Really interesting!
Thank you!
TIL Lor likes a mix of busy patterns with a good cut.
I was vibing with the simpler dresses but apparently she wasnt feeling them...
I love their new direction actually. They look a lot more elegant, in my opinion.
What wig is this? It's really cute. I know you've worn it before, but I've always meant to ask!
the rereleases are so on point but then the NEW bits are so :T
I don’t know, I just love old sweet ap. My most recent get was pink dreaming macarons jsk (2008) and before pink vanilla-chan coat (2010)
I'm getting my first lolita dress I'm so excited
Lady cat room is so cute
And the lacy monstrosity
Yeah they arent all candy and fun and toyish its just a diff style
If you don't mind me asking, how do you switch your eye brow color so well? You went from black to blonde? How do you do it?
