Assalamu aleykum from tatars in Russia. We embraced islam peacefully in 922 (even before Russians chose christianity in 988!). Before mongols, we called ourselves Bulgars (Volga river Bulgaria), then changed the ethnonim to tatars due to mongol invasion (Russians called mongols and especially those who served them as tatars (tatars were initially a rival neighbor tribe subjugated by mongols)). Batu khan (elder brother of Berke) destroyed our muslim state - Volga Bulgaria (don't confuse with modern Bulgaria on Danube river), however people still remained muslim. Mongols used them to rule the Golden Horde. Teaching Russian and tatar history in school here in Tatarstan, Russia. I'm personally from a mixed family, half russian half tatar. Hulagu Khan formed an alliance with Crusader States. In response Berke Kan formed an alliance with Mamluk state in Egypt. It was the army of the Khanate of the Golden Horde that defeated Hulagu Khan. Hulagu died in 1261. Mongol army in Ain Jalut was the NOT the main Mongol army. Main Mongol army was destroyed by Berke's nephew. Anyway, Berke Khan passed away in Azerbaijan not Uzbekistan.
Berke Khan, the ruler of the Golden Horde and a grandson of Genghis Khan, was influenced to accept Islam by Shaikh Saifuddin Dervish, a Sufi saint. Shaikh Saifuddin’s teachings and spiritual influence played a significant role in Berke Khan’s conversion to Islam around the mid-13th century. This conversion had a profound impact, as Berke Khan became the first Mongol ruler to adopt Islam, and he later supported the spread of the faith within his realm.
Golden Horde also included vast lands of Central Asia and its center (capital) was on the northern coasts of Caspian Sea. Lithuania, Poland were just western provinces in the outskirts. When Gengiz khan conquered Central Asia and Volga river lands, there already Turks (modern Tatar, Kazakh, bashkir) and in the southern parts modern Uzbeks and Kirghiz people, all these Turkic people were already Muslims. So mongols assimilated with the majority local Turkic population and became islamized and turkisized with time. Mother of Berke khan was khoresm princess she was Muslim and raised Berke as a Muslim. In the eastern part Uyghurs (also Turks) served the mongol rulers in the palaces high ranks as they were educated.

The disagreement with the Mongols and Howarism Khanate had to do with trade routes. Gengiz Khan wanted to open up China to trade, which was closed. Howarism Khanate, the successors of Seljüks, preferred the route from India to Black Sea and Mediterrenean which they controlled, and were extracting good revenue from. Howarism did not want the competition from China. Babur had no connection to Gengiz. His Grand grand father, Timur had married a lady from Gengiz dynasty but he has nothing to do with Mogols otherwise. They would marry different ladies for political reasons. Timur's empire may be even bigger than Gengiz's empire. They had the tradition of dividing up their empire between the sons, so after a few generations they would disappear.

The Mongols who converted to Islam were the mongols who settled in the Muslim world. The Mongols who converted to China, Korea converted to Buddhism.
